Recent research on the descendents of expelled Sephardim have changed world Judaism as more conversos and Crypto-Jews explore or study their Jewish heritage. Considerable research on conversos has been done in the American Southwest. Spain and Portugal, as of 2015 now grant citizenship to the descendents of expelled Jews.
