Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) delivers a response to President Donald Trump's address to the nation Tuesday night on the shutdown and the President's demand for funding for a wall.  He points out Trump's lies and speaks of real crisis' in America. The Trump shutdown - his 3rd - will be the longest in American history on Saturday.

I tweeted the following solution to Trump & several other politicians 'Here's a solution: 2 parallel walls: 1 easy to get thru from Mexico after contraband check & background screening, 2nd hard to get thru to U.S. 1/2 mile 'Bordertown' In between: housing, work to earn passage to U.S. & yes, prison & deportation 4 those who fail.' But compromise solutions are not the real issue anyway, it is politics.

Here's an expert on the Emergency Powers act, and it shows how much the president can destroy the American system and democracy.

In short, he can do pretty much what he wants, and it's quite possible the conservative courts will let him if the alternative is to keep the government closed.

Congress would have to have a veto-proof majority (2/3) to overturn a declaration of emergency.
