I suppose

We can have

Some

Consolation.

I mean

Those of us

Who knew

That the war

Would end

Badly.

But

Then again

'I told you so's'

Are unseamly

And don't

Make up for

All the lost lives

And wasted wealth.

Still

A trickle

Can become

A stream

And a stream

Can become a torrent.

Perhaps

This is all

We can hope for.

Maybe

All of this

Mess

Will be

Washed away

And we will have

Some

Comfort

In knowing

That some lives

Will be saved

Though

We could not

Save them all.
