We had written a report, one of the very first, on the dangers of, and how to stop casual application of Pesticides/herbicides. Now, some members of the congress wanted to know why a certain county in Illinois had the highest cancer rate especially for women and most especially for breast cancer. One of them contacted me and wanted a copy of my report on increased pesticide use and how to stamp it out, forever. I believe it was Judy Biggert then of a Super-wealthy suburb of Hinsdale, which now, like my old hometown of Oak Park, has a Managed Pesticide Program. Since the inauguration of said program Oak Park claims to have only sprayed for adult mosquitoes once in the last 25 years, about the time I first released the report.
Later, Biggert called me and asked why the cancer rate was so high in the DuPage County, Illinois. My answer was simple, it is cheap and very profitable to muse patented, synthetic, toxic pesticides/herbicides, that to use natural substanbce that work as well or better, and therefore because of blatant arbitrary and capricious pesticide/herbicide and mosquito spraying use, many are suffering.
That county also had the highest use of pesticides/herbicides in the nation at the time, using ten times as much per acre than did farmers and for what? For cosmetic purposes? It was and remains worse than smoking, because it fatally corrupts the air outside of one's house and neighborhood and in the case of spraying for adult mosquitoes, a virtual sham in many cases, because it only kills 1%-7% of that population and everyone except voters know the most effective way to stop the mosquitoes, which are mostly a nuisance, is to treat the latent mosquito breeding ground and still waters areas before they hatch and that can be done with fairly innocuous natural products but the pesticide companies won't use them because there is no way to patent them and the profit level is low because they are plentiful.
I never heard from her again. Maybe, said one of my staff, Republicans don't like to hear that some of their top donors are in the poison business, and they let her know that, in no uncertain terms-and then again maybe not.
We suspected pesticides were also implicated in Parkinson's and Alzheimer's, because the symptoms of casual intoxication from Pesticides/Herbicides are very similar to many of the symptoms of those two diseases and because the toxins attack the human central nervous system including the brain. Also because the vastly increased occurrence/upswing of those diseases closely paralleled that of pesticide/herbicide usage.
We got a call sometime after that from a Group called Public Citizen enquiring about the report. Public Citizen's President Joan Claybrook who had previously served as President Jimmy Carter's "Auto Czar," was interested in the report. I do not recall if one of my staff initiated the contact or if Public Citizen did, but Ms. Claybrook wanted to fly out and meet me at the seven Continents Restaurant at O'Hare Airport to discuss my ideas on how to curb use of the deadly toxins and to see the report.
I decided to take one of my Undergraduate staff, which had worked on the report, (we will call him Garret Black for now, I conferred with him today before writing this article) along.
We met Ms. Claybrook at the restaurant in the evening and began the discussion as we ordered dinner. We talked through dinner and she appeared to like what we had uncovered and asked for a copy of the report, with which we supplied her at no charge. She began to ask about our ideas for stopping or at least curbing their use and I unloaded a storehouse of litigious marketing ideas.
My plan was to sue door-to-door every individual that uses toxins outside of their home where fumes, particulates and residue can cause symptoms and serious illness and/or "Fatal Events," to neighbors and their children, just as now the public sues tobacco companies and bans smokers and those who sham the world in the manufacture and marketing of other deadly toxic poisons.
At first she appeared to hang on every word, but then she began to say, "You are thinking and acting to locally, instead, think and act Nationally." I submitted that we had not a budget to "think and act nationally," and I doubted she did either, and asked point blank if she did, because if so I would develop the advertising campaign to stamp out pesticide/herbicide use for lawns, gardens and mosquitoes, once and for all.
This appeared to unsettle her, but I was a former ad-agency CEO, a professor, and advertising and marketing strategy were among my areas of expertise. To do the job properly one had to financially cripple franchisees, those selling, and those using the products. The toxins are drugs and as such should have not been allowed to be sold except by prescription, because those using such drugs on their lawns and on mosquitoes have no knowledge of the drug interactions people on prescription drugs would suffer. Neither have studies been done, to my knowledge, about drug interactions or the effects on healthy people whose neurological system was interfered with by pesticides, herbicides and solvents. I suggested seeking accident reports, reports of violence and more drug interactions on days of, and following, pesticide applications. I would be seeking police and hospital reports for study of trends following applications to entire cities by the Mosquito spraying companies. Had we been able to convince her of the efficacy of our ideas, there would never have been a Tom Delaye.
Ms Claymore had other ideas. She was contemplating a book on the subject to raise money. Something that would raise a few million dollars. She said the expenses of the organization were heavy and they were in need of large and consistent cash flow. She said that running for political office was one way to raise cash, but a best selling book was another.
I replied that nailing the sellers and users was a fine way to end pesticide/herbicide suffering and death.
When the waiter came to suggest dessert the conversation turned to autos. She asked what I drove, at the time it was a red Corvette, and I chided her on her mandate to only allow speedometers to register speeds up to 80 MPH. She popped her cork, became angry. When we left my student undergraduate assistant was bewildered by her end performance, which became a bit aggressive.
My reply was that it did not appear that stopping any of the abuses of pesticides was their top priority. It more, appeared that perhaps their top priority were ways to profit from these conflicts to keep their organization running, some of which is understandable-perhaps they had a money crunch. I recall saying that I would not be surprised if one day they started, indeed, having employees run for political office just for the matching funds and the copyrights, articles, books, rights, appearance fees, royalties etc, which may occur as a result.
It is hard for me now to believe that Mr. Nader does not know what his running cost Americans and Iraqi's, but apparently, like GW Bush his conscience is numbed and is easily appeased by cold, hard, cash. His participation and enabling of the Bushite victory, is due in part to the apparent hubristic incompetence of the Democratic Election management team, and to the silliness of a Nader candidacy and the silly people who voted for him, knowing he could not win but hoping to spite the Democrats. Well spite them they all did, and for their reward they have the burden before God of 1.5 millions of American and Iraqi lives on their heads.
I seriously doubt that the Almighty Powers beyond our dimension buy into any of the excuses of the various fools who got Bush elected, TWICE, because, as some of us know, consummate evil does exist in the flesh and we know that for every action there is a reaction. We know that every elementary particle in the Universe seems to have a semi-parallel particle called its antiparticle that shares some of the same properties with it. However, it has also many other properties, which are the opposite of those of the parallel particle. For example, the electron has as its antiparticle the anti-electron. The electron and the anti-electron have exactly the same masses, but they have exactly opposite electrical charges. There is matter and anti-matter, dark matter and light matter, slow particles and above light speed Tachyons which theoretically travel back and forth through time, reflecting Gödel's Hypothesis of time travel, for which he created a non-formulaic word picture, Gödel's buddy Einstein's favorite means of developing hypothetical, functional models. Therefore given that we have seen, more than once, consummate evil in the flesh, but nowhere in the history of Homo sapiens have we experienced Consummate Goodness in the flesh, the opposite Anti-Evil, therefore following the protocol, the systemic regularity, one must exist. Like the thrusting management engine of the Quantum which is not to be found within the boundaries of the universe, points, inescapably to it's existence outside of it, as many others (including myself) have hypothesized, there exists somewhere, Consummate Goodness.
Francis Collins, the former head of the Human Genome Project, says that his scientific explorations and in particular the project which unearthed the mapping of the Human Genome in his book, The Language of God, he details his trek through the Human Genome Project, which convinced him of the existence outside of the quantum of that motivating engine, Einstein's and Gödel's, Creator of The Universe, whose construction worked through an evolutionary progression and purely scientific, mathematical/linguistic means.
What does it all mean? It means there is and will be a reckoning at the end of the day, week, month, era, lifetime for those who sold their souls for success, even those who started out ages ago with motives as pure as the driven, drivel.
In short if you vote for Nader, you spite no one but yourself and your offspring, whose deaths you will have hastened, as well as those of people you never knew but whom you will face in the unknown some day, to your disadvantage.
