Mark Crispin Miller's main site, http://www.markcrispinmiller.blogspot.com, contains a brief video commentary on the Holt Bill H.R. 811, "Poison Pill," that explains that Holt's technical improvements are purchased at the price of subverting the fundamentals of democracy by legislating a privatized secret counting of the vote.
Miller believes that the electoral fraud cannot be effectively fought without naming the vote riggers and confronting the ugly political program of a hard-core fascist theocratic state that lies behind the vote rigging, the Gonzales scandal, the ascendancy of graduates from Regent University and Patrick Henry College within the government bureaucracy, all done with the specific goal of subverting American democracy. "Laughing in the Dark" is especially good for those with historical memories capable of recalling how vastly Hitler was mocked for his buffoonish intellectual mediocrity at every step of his rise to power.
This is not merely a battle of ideas. Their side is backed by the Pentagon and massive USG funding of private Xtn armies, including vast funding for Blackwater that has been integrated into the "war on terror," and as a partner in extending US hegemony into the Middle East and the Caspian Sea to control the remaining global oil resources. Blackwater has become an integral part of US armed forces right after the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines, and integral to US foreign policy. To insure hardened mercenaries, Blackwater has aggressively recruited from the Central American death squads, the murderous South African paramilitaries, and the veterans of Pinochet's "dirty war," describing their foreign troops as "very professional." In mercenary terms, a professional force tortures and kills swiftly and effectively upon direction and without compunction.
For the ideological battle, Miller recommends "The Theocons: Secular America Under Siege" by Damon Linker. I repeat my recommendation of Chris Hedges, American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War on America," and to see the military muscle already in place, Jeremy Scahill's Blackwater, as well as Michael Weinstein, With God on Our Side: One Man's War Against an Evangelical Coup in America's Military. I have not read Weinstein's book but have heard him on KPFK's "Connect the Dots" hosted by Lila Garrett. Weinstein is a powerhouse. He gets the danger that this counry is in and is doing something about it, cannot sleep nights out of political desperation, and fears slaughter by the millions, a new Crusade, the War of the Roses, and nuclear Armageddon. He's fourth generation US military, an Air Force Academy graduate, and he knows.
We had better be prepared to do more than write or email our Congresspersons about this.
