Marlins Suspend Ozzie Guillen For Lauding Castro

By Rob Kall

The Marlins have suspended manager Ozzie Guillen for five days, for telling Time Magazine "I love Fidel Castro."

The Marlins have suspended manager Ozzie Guillen for five days, for  telling  Time Magazine  "I love Fidel Castro."

Cubans in Miami protested and called for a boycott of Marlins games.

One twitter commenter,   said, " Just to be clear. Amongst his many sins, Castro quashed the free speech movement and now Cubans in Miami are doing the same here?"

And you wonder why athletes are apolitical. Talk about fascism at work.
Twitter has people suggesting that freedom of speech doesn't mean there are consequences.
What does a man having a political opinion have to do with the work he does which has nothing to do with that opinion? I hate to say it but this makes arguments for anonymity on the net very viable.

The Marlins management are cowards. They take a man with an opinion and principle and beat him up.

Of course they have the right to do that.  That doesn't make it right.

Guillen at press conference, post-suspension, says, in Spanish, " Sorry I hurt a city and country. I did so without intent. I feel like I betrayed my Latin community."
