Assessment of The Pickens Energy Plan & Counter Proposals

Leon Thompson

MY ASSESSMENT OF THE RECENT ''REPUBLICAN" PICKENS ENERGY PLAN PROPOSAL ALONG WITH MY COUNTER PROPOSALS

I do not know if Mr. Pickens is a Natural Gas Producer Driller or Oil Field Driller. I also question his timing on addressing this energy issue during an election year and at a time when our gasoline retail prices have set a record high this present year. I also note that Mr. Pickens proclaims (see below) that we now have an abundant of Natural Gas in this Nation. If this is so, I wish Mr. Pickens would explain why our American citizens' home heating Natural Gas prices have increased by more than l50% over previous years under the pretext that this Nation had a shortage of Natural Gas to justify these price increases. In addition, Mr. Pickens' energy proposal suggests that we shift from gasoline to natural gas to operate a majority of our automobile vehicles in the distant future. Excuse me my fellow Americans, but if we now have a natural gas shortage as we have been told in the past, will this Picken's proposal only deteriorate the Natural Gas supply to heat our homes once this transition is made? Will this proposal not also result in higher Natural Gas prices to heat our American homes in the future? I also do not appreciate the fact that Enron is also a Natural Gas Supplier in these United States that John McCain's campaign manager former Senator Phil Graham had previously supported, and this also could be another factor as to why our natural gas prices are at record high levels.

PICKENS PLAN: http://www.pickensplan.com/about/ There is a Solution (EXCERPT)America is blessed with the world's greatest wind power corridor and abundant reserves of clean natural gas. The Pickens Plan will utilize these tremendous resources to build a bridge to the future - a blueprint to reduce foreign oil dependence by harnessing domestic energy alternatives and buying time for us to develop even greater new technologies. The Pickens Plan Assessment (Continued):I do support the Pickens Plan for advocating more wind power because they are not owned or constructed by companies who may be connected to the corporate oil or natural gas industries. I cannot say this in regard to Nuclear Power Plants, because the supply of uranium or plutonium to operate these nuclear electricity plants is supplied by huge corporations such as the Kerr McGee Oil Corporation. For example: Perhaps many of you will remember the Karen Silkwood civil rights lawsuit case against the Kerr McGee Oil Corporation that was also in relation to plutonium nuclear exposure to their employee's in regard to their nuclear supply operations many years ago at their plant location that will prove my point. I also noted in the Pickens Plan proposal that there was no provision for the production of Ethanol Gasoline that has made the Nation of Brazil energy self dependent in regard to their gasoline production requirements. Ethanol can be produced from sugar cane or other agriculture plants that are produced by farming contrary to drilling that could be financially beneficial to ordinary poor working farmers in this Nation or other Nations within this identical hemisphere to produce these ethanol agriculture farming crops for themselves to lift them out of their present poverty conditions by being in business for themselves. Perhaps our present U.S. Government should also promote this identical ethanol program in the Country of Afghanistan by eliminating their present Poppy Drug Fields and substitute those crops with Ethanol Sugar Cane Fields. In return, the United States should consider building a sugar cane processing plant to convert this sugar cane or other agriculture products to Ethanol and then sign a trading pact agreement with Afghanistan to be their only future Ethanol Gasoline supplier customer. Contrary to the Pickens Energy plan, we should also advocate that water dams should be constructed in this Nation to provide the power or energy source that will also produce low cost electricity rates for our American consumers. This is also an electricity supplying source that does not require uranium, natural gas, or petroleum oils to operate these plants for future generations, and therefore would not be subject to the pricing whims of the Corporate Oil Firms. In addition, it also does not take many employees to operate these dam facilities that would save in operation costs that in the interim would result in lower electricity rates for our U.S. Citizen's. In addition, these Hydro Electric Dams could also be utilized to control flooding within certain regions of this Nation to protect our roads, homes, and farming crops that would eventually pay for the construction of these dams by saving this flooding damage expense from our U. S. Government and Taxpayers in future years. I may be over optimistic, but I also can envision a series of dams being built along the entire route of the Mississippi River with a damn being built to supply each State with electricity who may be located on opposite sides of this river. In addition, this Hydro Electric Dam project should be owned by our American Taxpayers and Federal Government along with State Governments where these dams may provide electricity services for their people who may reside within these identical State regions. It is true that Hydro Electricity Dams are expensive to construct but they are also efficient to operate since no one can control the price of water to operate these facilities. It is also true that it takes many years to construct dam facilities, but in the interim, these dam construction facilities will also provide many good paying jobs for our American Workers during this long construction phase for many years to come and will also provide a "Permanent Investment" for the economic future of America. It is also time that this Nation should consider constructing dams instead of building bombs for war. Respectfully Submitted For Your Consideration and Support. LEON
