Just a moment of your time please!

Well the Holidays are here, Thanksgiving and Christmas. I would like to ask for a moment of you time to say a few words about Thanksgiving though. I'm not a religious man, nor a peaceful one. But I've had the experience of seeing life from the point of an upper middle class college professor, and a bum.

I told my mom that if a person could keep their wits about them as they descended into this pit wherein many sharp outcroppings are present to keep you focused and the light above has long given way to darkness, there are many things one can learn before the splat at the bottom.

I believe I've learned more about life, people, and so many other issues since I've been in this jackpot than I ever learned in the social gauntlet we euphemistically call formal education. As for me, I've pretty much always been a School of hard Knocks man.

Since I'm not of the religious sort, at this Thanksgiving time, I'd like to thank all the people who've helped me in what are the worst years of my life. The Friends I've made with my clock repair business, and house sitting.

I'd like to thank Rob Kall for the opportunity he's given me despite some of my vitriolic diatribe. He gave me the opportunity to say the things I wanted to in a large forum. I'd like to thank one of the other editors for her kindness to me up until I popped off to her several times in a very hateful way. I hope for her forgiveness for my idiocy and I hope for her guidance in writing good articles and such. Live long and Prosper my dear!

The VA has been the only thing to save me from a cardboard sign and tin pot. Despite the fact that the George gouged 3 billion out of the VA this year, it continues to try to help the people who picked up weapons in defense of their country unlike George.

I'd like to thank my family for the help they've given me in financial and moral support. My Mother and Father stepped right up to the plate and have spent thousands on keeping me out of jail and such.

There are so many out there that have smiled at me from moving cars, or stopped to let me and my dog cross the road, or given me a ride when my worn out truck quit. I don't know their names, but the one thing that is now most important to me is kindness. I really do know that if you want kindness, make sure you give it freely.

I really hadn't planned on waiting out the grave in this way, but the people I know now are so much more important to me. My most heartfelt thanks and admiration go out to these people I've mentioned, and likewise, my most solemn heartfelt apology goes out to people I've hurt with my sometimes acidic and acrimonious dialogue.

Our greatest task as a race is now to survive. One we cannot fail in. We need to follow the rules so that everyone has a chance to get to the top. My generation is pretty much done what it can do, and I must say, it isn't always much to be proud of. But I think of my nieces and nephews, and my grand nieces and I'd very much like to give them at least what I've had.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
