Andrew Sullivan, the conservative writer who was once a key media supporter for the Iraq war, denounced the latest Bush statement on CNN on Wednesday night, stating that the president is so delusional, "This is not an election anymore, it's an intervention." ----- Robert Parry | How Neocon Favorites Duped US http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/110206M.shtml Robert Parry writes: "When American voters go to the polls on November 7, one of the foremost questions that should be on their minds is how did the United States get into the Iraq mess, which has claimed the lives of more than 2,800 US soldiers and possibly hundreds of thousands of Iraqis. What went wrong with Washington, and what can citizens do about it?" ----- Another GOP Lawmaker Resigns After Scandal http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/110206D.shtml Republican representative Ralph Arza, under fire for leaving a message filled with obscenities and a racial slur on a colleague's voice mail, resigned Wednesday from the Florida Legislature. Bush owes more than a few. In a just world, he would be made to personally appear before the families of all the dead, and all the wounded, in order to beg for their forgiveness." ----- Is There a Scandal in the House? http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/110206L.shtml It's a scandal-filled election this year with two bribery convictions, one money-laundering indictment, two sex scandals, one Russian contracting fiasco and $90,000 stashed in a freezer. The string of scandals could cost the Republicans their majority in the House. ----- Frank Schaeffer | I Should Be Supporting Allen. Instead, I'm Leaving the Party. http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/110206B.shtml "I'm a Christian, a writer, a military parent and a registered Republican," writes Frank Schaeffer. "My wife and I have reached the tipping point. We plan to go to town hall to dump our Republican voter registration and re-register as independents. I don't care anymore what party someone is in. These days, what I care about is what they're made of." ----- Keith Olbermann | Bush Owes Troops Apology, Not Kerry http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/110206J.shtml "There is no line this president has not crossed - or will not cross - to keep one political party in power," says Keith Olbermann. "He has spread any and every fear among us in a desperate effort to avoid that which he most fears - some check, some balance against what has become not an imperial, but a unilateral presidency." ----- The New York Times | The Great Divider http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/110206K.shtml The New York Times editors write: "As President Bush throws himself into the final days of a particularly nasty campaign season, he's settled into a familiar pattern of ugly behavior. Since he can't defend the real world created by his policies and his decisions, Mr. Bush is inventing a fantasy world in which to campaign on phony issues against fake enemies." ----- The Los Angeles Times | Osama Isn't Running http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/110206O.shtml ----- Jennifer Van Bergen | Bush's Brave New World of Torture http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/110206A.shtml ----- The Soldiers Speak Out http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/110206C.shtml [snip] ... - the Appeal for Redress - has been signed by over 600 active-duty soldiers. ----- Truth in the Booth: The Clint Curtis Story http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/110206G.shtml [snip] ... This reminds me of a quote I once read by Benjamin Franklin. After signing the Declaration of Independence, at a time when the colonies were marked by divisiveness, he wisely stated, 'We must indeed all hang together, or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately.' I find this very apt for our present circumstances." _________________________________ [NEWSDISSECTOR] The Campaign To Kill AlJazeera http://www.newsdissector.com/blog/2006/11/02/the-campaign-to-kill-aljazeera/ ....................snip..................... The good news? "When we wake up tomorrow morning, there will be one less day." ... "In Washington, you can't expect any rationality. I don't know if he's in Iraq because God told him to, because his father didn't do it, or because it's the next step in his 12-step Alcoholics Anonymous program," he said. . . "You have a collapsed Congress, you have a collapsed press. The military is going to do what the President wants," Hersh said. "How fragile is democracy in America if a president can come in with an agenda controlled by a few cultists?" http://www.mcgilldaily.com/view.php?aid=5450 _________________________________ .ron corvuswire@verizon.net COMMENTARY Dear David Letterman: The next time Bill O'Reilly comes on your show and asks you, "Do you want the U.S. to win the war in Iraq?" Tell him this: "There is no war. Congress never declared war; it's a state-sponsored illegal attack and military occupation of a sovereign nation. That's like asking me if I want to win a bank robbery, it makes no sense at all. Since it was illegal for us to go into Iraq, it's unlawful for us to remain in Iraq. The fact is, if Bush wouldn't have deposed Saddam Hussein, Saddam would still be keeping terrorists out of Iraq. Now the U.S. military is unable to control Iraq and Iraq is rapidly headed toward civil war, family to family fighting. Now we have almost 3,000 dead American soldiers and Bush sees no end in sight. Bill, what's Plan B? What is President Bush's Plan B for Iraq? Tell the truth, Bill: there is no Plan B. There's only, "I'm the Decider and I'll decide when we bring the troops home - when the job gets done." Well, the jig's up on that deal, so now what are we gonna' do? We need to declare war on whoever put the false information in Bush's 2003 State of the Union speech, (neocon Stephen Hadley,) where Bush justified going to war against Iraq. We need to identify all those responsible for conning our government into war in Iraq. Those are the people responsible for the deaths of over 2,800 U.S. soldiers. We need to investigate this Bush administration and get some justice in all this madness. We need leaders who recognize the Bush invasion of Iraq as a mistake and corrects that mistake by bringing the troops home. There is no legitimate justification, legal or otherwise, for the continued U.S. occupation of Iraq. Bush maintains that if we pull out of Iraq now, terrorists will take over Iraq and eventually the entire Middle East, therefore we should sacrifice American lives so the U.S. government can attempt to control the Middle East. There's just one problem with this concept, it's illegal and unconstitutional as sin. The idea that "fighting terrorism on foreign soil" trumps our nation's laws is hogwash and treasonous. Our government has no right to militarily occupy sovereign nations and dictate what form of government Arabs select - therefore, the right thing to do is bring the troops home - NOW! George W. Bush's primary argument against the U.S. Constitution and our pesky laws is -- 9/11 changed everything. Terrorists may have destroyed the Twin Towers, but they didn't destroy our Constitution and laws. .r o n c o r v u s http://www.corvuswire.com/bringthetroopshome.htm _________________________________ Carl Strock, Another Bush "Brownie" Heading Construction In Iraq And Afghanistan Besides Rumsfeld, there is another total loser Bush Appointee playing a major role in compouding the incompetence and failure in Iraq and Afghanistan. As for NY's Charlie Rangel, there has never been a Zionist butt that he has not been willing to kiss. As for the one-time presidential candidate, Howard Dean, he has learned his lesson and has become the lobby's doormat. Jimmy Carter is the only US president to negotiate a treaty that required Israel to give up land, and if there are those who believe that either Israel or the Zionist lobby was happy with Camp David or will forgive him for twisting Menachem Begin's arm to get it, they are seriously deluded. And it wasn't just the lobby in 1980, folks. Carter received only 48% of the Jewish vote against Reagan that year, the lowest estimated Jewish vote total for any Democratic candidate since they started taking such polls. Published on World War 4 Report: http://ww4report.com >> Democrats task Carter over "apartheid" Israel tome By David Bloom Nervous Democrats are distancing themselves from Jimmy Carter's forthcoming Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid [1], and urging him not to use the term to describe the continuing Israeli occupation and colonization of the Palestinian territories. It should be noted that Ha'aretz, Israel's most respected newspaper, wrote [2] in an Sept. 13 editorial,"...the apartheid regime in the territories remains intact; millions of Palestinians are living without rights, freedom of movement or a livelihood, under the yoke of ongoing Israeli occupation, and in the future they will turn the Jews into a minority between the Mediterranean Sea and the Jordan River.[...]" Also, Akiva Eldar reported [3] May 13,'03 in Ha'aretz that former Italian Prime Minister Massimo D'Alema claimed Sharon told him he used the South African Bantustan model in his plan to cantonize the Palestinian territories and limit their autonomy. On the October 31 edition of CNN's The Situation Room, host Wolf Blitzer asked CNN Baghdad correspondent Michael Ware whether the verdict in the Saddam Hussein trial, scheduled to be issued on November 5, two days before the U.S. midterm elections, was "timed to coincide to help Republicans in the elections back here in the states." Ware responded that "officials here on the ground dispute that notion" and say that was a "preordained date chosen by the court itself." But Ware added that "[t]hat may or may not be so. It's very, very hard to tell" and that "the timing certainly is coincidental."
