Does President Obama Really Want a "Better Approach" to Fix Health Care?
(8 comments) Obama keeps saying he wants to hear better ideas on health care, especially ones supported by doctors and nurses. Yet, when Dr. Margaret Flowers tries to do what many have tried all year she is ignored or even arrested. Last Friday, Dr. Flowers and Dr. Paris were arrested outside the Republican Caucus in Baltimore trying to tell the president a better way -- Medicare for All.

The Anti-War Peace Movement Needs a Re-Start
(4 comments) The vast majority of Americans widely opposes war and wants the U.S. to focus its resources at home. But, these views are not reflected in the body politic and certainly not in the DC discourse on war. Rather than anti-war opposition being broad-based, politically independent and constant.

Dems Lose Massachusetts: Obama Needs a Major Course Correction
(2 comments) The Dems lost the Mass senate race. That's three in a row after the VA and NJ gubernatorial races. Obama needs a major course correction away from corporate elites and in favor of the people. Ending crony capitalism needs to be the election issue of 2010. He should begin by re-making the White House starting with replacing his first appointment, Rahm Emanuel. It's the people vs.the elites and the Dems are on the wrong side.

Doubletalk on Afghanistan: War is Peace; Escalation is Withdrawal
(8 comments) Now that Obama has made it official it is time to step up efforts to end the war. Let's not be confused by Obama's war is peace speech. This is an escalation of a disastrous war and the peace movement needs to unify to end it.

115 arrested so far in 18 cities to demand for health care for all
(11 comments) Dr. Margaret Flowers, former pediatrician and mother of three teenagers: "I am planning to risk arrest, which may have serious consequences for me – up to six months in jail. But it won't be as serious as the suffering and needless deaths that too many face each day in this nation.I hope you will join me in our action. If you can't risk arrest,at least you can stand in solidarity with us during the legal picket."

Can the Democrats Avoid a Populist Health Care Rebellion?
(5 comments) Americans are mobilizing at MobilizeForHealthCare.org against insurance industry denials and abuses. They know private insurance is the problem, not the solution. But, Congressional leaders are planning a massive giveaway to the insurance industry. The seeds of a populist revolt are sprouting. Democratic leaders should heed the warning and change course.

Here We Go Again – Democrats Turning off Their Voting Base
(5 comments) The Obama administration is saying they are ignoring the peace movement and that for Afghanistan, all options are on the table except leaving. When political party's ignore their voting and activist base the result is inevitable -- they lose.

The Democrats Put the Health Insurance Industry Ahead of the Economy and Health Care
(8 comments) The Democrats are so determined to provide hundreds of billions in new revenue to their campaign donors in the insurance industry, that they are willing to risk the economy. Single payer would boost the economy with new jobs and new revenue, while the Dems health care plan will reduce jobs, tax small businesses and weaken the economy.

Torture Accountability Requires the People to Demand It
(6 comments) The Attorney General is considering a special prosecutor to investigate torture. People who want torture accountability need to increase their activity. A full investigation that excludes no one including policy makers in the White House is needed. The Department of Justice must follow the law and appoint a independent prosecutor to ensure the rule of law is followed. Anything less further undermines DOJ's credibility.

No More Pretense for Health Reform
(3 comments) The fraud of Democratic Party health care proposals is evident now that the CBO has reported that ten years from now, under the most robust Democratic proposal, 36 million Americans will not have insurance. The only people that will profit from these proposals are the insurance industry. The necessities of the people will not be met. Does Obama have any political courage?

Congress on Path to Transfer Hundreds of Billions in Tax Dollars to the Insurance Industry While Calling it Health Care
(1 comments) The first single payer advocate, Dr. Margaret Flowers, to testify in the health care reform discussion did a great job but the senate is still trying to find ways to protect the profits of the insurance industry. They can't figure out how to pay for it or cover all Americans but they are proceeding anyway -- putting the interests of their contributors ahead of the people's needs.

The Case for Disbarment of Lawyers Who Facilitated Torture Grows
(3 comments) Lawyers were the lynchpin if they had given real legal advice: torture is illegal under domestic and international law; there would have been no torture program. Now two generals and an x-general have called for torture accountability. And, DOJ emails have implicated President Bush and Vice President Cheney. All we need now is for an enraged citizenry to demand accountability for torturers and their facilitators

BREAKING NEWS: BIG BREAKTHROUGHS FOR SINGLE PAYER HEALTH CARE
(40 comments) Single payer health care, whose advocates were arrested in the senate a month ago, is now at the table and making progress. At the same time, the multi-payer, pro-insurance bill is faltering with support falling apart. It is time for single payer advocates to increase their activity and put pressure on Congress and the president.

Time to Look Past Obama's Words and Face-up to His Actions
(9 comments) While Obama's words are often musical, he now has a record for people to judge. When it comes to foreign policy the music is not pretty. And, the response of the peace movement choir has not been loud enough. It is time for the peace movement to take action, escalate its protests and hold Obama and the Democrats responsible.

Baucus to Meet with Single Payer Advocates
(4 comments) Senator Baucus, in reaction to political pressure, will meet with a delegation of single payer advocates this Wednesday. This does not mean single payer is "on the table" or really being considered. It is an effort to reduce political pressure. But, it should be a signal to activists that they should escalate the pressure because it's working.

Baucus Flees Single Payer Questions, Conducts Business of Health Care in Secret
(3 comments) The corrupt Senator Baucus, who has taken millions from health care profiteers, fled this morning when single payer advocates tried to question him. And, now he is marking up the health care bill in private -- invitation only. What is he afraid of? He's afraid that the public knows he is corrupt and writing a health insurance welfare bill rather than a health care bill.

Using a Law License to Facilitate Torture Should Result in Disbarment
(18 comments) Today, I signed and filed complaints against 12 Bush-Cheney torture lawyers on behalf of VotersForPeace.US and VelvetRevolution.US. We are seeking the disbarment of this cadre of torture lawyers for facilitating war crimes. If bar associations do no see justifying war crimes as a violation of legal ethics, what is left of ethical standards? Application of the rule of law to torture is a critical step in healing the nation.

The Single Payer Fire Has Been Lit
(3 comments) The Baucus Eight, so name because eight of us were arrested protesting the exclusion of single payer health care from the debate in Contress is now the Baucus 13. The single payer movement is growing stronger and threatens to become a populist rebellion against corporate health insurance which is ripping off Americans and making health care unaffordable. Join the effort. Your voice is needed.

Max Baucus Should Not Be Deciding Health Care for America
(10 comments) Senator Max Baucus and the Senate Finance Committee are too corrupted by corporate health industry donations to give America the health care policy it needs. The Senate leadership should remove health care reform from the Senate Finance Committee and put it before the Health Committee. They need to start all over so the corruption of Baucus does not affect the outcome.

Obama's Drug Czar Nominee Approved a Potential Break from the Past
(1 comments) Obama's drug czar nominee was approved today. Unlike previous drug czars he favors needle exchange, treatment instead of incarceration, easy access to methadone and is innovative and pragmatic. In Seattle, where he was chief, he ushered in a new marijuana law making it the lowest prosecution priority. Are we in for some positive changes in drug policy? Finally?

Why I Was Among Eight Health Care Advocates to Get Arrested in the Senate Yesterday
(10 comments) The Senate Finance Committee is excluding single payer advocates from their hearings. They only want to hear from the insurance industry, HMO's and pharmaceuticals -- the corporations that caused the health care crisis. As a result, yesterday eight of us protested by telling the truth in the senate. We were all arrested but hopefully, a new phase of the movement for a real national health plan has started.

Specter Switch to Dems Follows Voters
Senator Specter's switch to the Dems gives them one more year of one-party rule that should be cemented in 2010. But, it also presents challenges as now the people will expect the Dems to deliver. There is no more Republican excuse for them. If they put in place programs for the people rather than their funders their rule will continue. If not, it ends in 2012.

The Real Cost of the "Bailout": Are We Getting Our Money's Worth?
(2 comments) The American taxpayer is on the hook for $7.7 trillion so far and the bottom of the economic collapse is not yet in site. You'd think for $7.7 trillion we'd get health care for all, tax relief or free college education! But Americans got none of that. Is this a wise use of tax dollars? Are there better ways to use this money? Will this trickle down approach work this time, even though it has failed in the past?

The Auto Bailout Shows the Failure of Corporate-Government More than the Failure of Detroit
Corporate government is at the root of the auto industry economic crisis. It is also the root cause of the crisis in health care and the finance markets. Solving the auto crisis is an opportunity to correct the relationship between corporations and government and get them to work for the interests of the people first.

G-20 Meets, Dines in DC, Does Nothing to Save the World Economy
(3 comments) The G-20 feasted on quail and $500 bottles of wine, but did nothing while the world economy worsened. The Federal Reserve and Treasury are acting without transparence and with little positive impact as all the economic measures got worse. The people need to get organized to Break the Bailout and build a new economy for the 21st Century.

Voter Integrity Group Urges Preservation of Unadjusted National Exit Poll
The National Exit Poll can provide an independent audit of the vote count. Early voting has shown widespread problems in voting in more than a dozen states. If the outcome of the election is in doubt the unadjusted poll numbers could be critically important information.

Urge Media to Archive All Exit Poll Results - Easy Action - Protect Vote
(1 comments) Voters should be provided with the unadjusted exit polls and if adjustments are made to the final polls they should be explained publicly. Major media outlets are urged to archive all of the interim exit poll results to allow independent analysis later. Election integrity advocates must push for greater transparency since large-sample exit polls can and should be used be used to audit vote totals.

The U.S. democracy has a long way to go before it achieves its objectives of being the greatest on earth. You can take action now and after the election join in a democracy movement to make democracy work.

Feeling Robbed? Wall Street Since the Bailout Shows No Signs of Changing and Washington is Not Forcing a Change
(3 comments) The new economy is coming -- what will it look like? It is, in part, up to us. So far the bailout is showing Wall Street has not changed its ways and Paulsen is hiding key information. A new economic stimulus package is coming. Its contours are not yet know -- each of us need to get educated and active to give it the shape we want.

Now the Cost of War Really Matters
(5 comments) The U.S. must choose -- continued massive military spending or rebuild the U.S. economy. The country cannot afford to do both. Decades of mass military spending have hollowed out the civilian economy. Now we much change course. The cost of two war-quagmires and the biggest military in the world can no longer be ignored.

Time to Create the Economy We Want
(4 comments) The multiple crisis the U.S. is facing is an opportunity to create the economy we want - one that serves our interests, i.e. a democratized economy where profit is broadly shared, a new energy economy that is clean, sustainable and decentralized -- an economy that serves the peoples needs not mega-corporate profits.

(1 comments) The bailout got through the senate but the House is still in question. We can still make a difference, slow down the bill and improve it.

"Senator McCain is absolutely right"
(3 comments) Obama expressed agreement with McCain a dozen times in the first debate. This conciliatory approach served him well according to the polls. But, is this the debate Americans needed? Do we need to candidates that agree to such a large degree on all the key issues facing the country from the bailout to militarism?

The Bailout Can Be Stopped
The people can stop the massive bailout which will be a theft of middle class funds to pay for the wealthy elite's bad investments. There are alternatives to the bailout -- build from the bottom up. Trickle down does not work especially when it is debt that is trickling down. Take action now -- we tell you how.

Corporate-Government On Display and ther Taxpayers Will Pay
(3 comments) The "Bailout" wil be on the backs of taxpayers rather than on those who profited from high risk speculation. It will cost every American $16,000 not counting the interest which our children and grand children will pay. The two corporate parties are representing the corporate interests knowing the voters have nowhere to go. Maybe, this will wake up the voters and one party will pay the price.

Election Theft for 2008 Already Underway

The Republican Masquerade Is Over, Time to Remove The Masks
(2 comments) Time to lift the veil of deceipt presented by the Republicans at the convention. They claim to run from the Republican Party -- but they are the Republican Party! They claim to be reformers and change agents but really are the agents of the status quo. Of course, they are not alone, the Democrats where their maskes as well.

You Can't Tell a Magazine by Its Cover Or A Candidate by His Rhetoric
(2 comments) Obama's political birth in Chicago politics shows he has been someone planning a political career from the outset and made decisions along the way to achieve his goals. Nothing unusual -- knocking allies off the ballot who ran against him, redistricting in the fashion of Tom Delay and saying one thing in a campaign and doing another. Politics as usual, not politics of change.

Is It Time for the Peace Movement to Start Protesting Senator Obama?
(14 comments) Obama recently said he would leave the 140,000 private contractors aka mercenaries in Iraq, have strike forces in the region, leave tens of thousands of non-combat troops and keep the U.S. Embassy and long-term bases. This is not withdrawal from Iraq. Is it time for the peace movement to protest Obama to stop his rightward drift?

2008 A Year of Opportunity for Peace Advocates
(4 comments) The hawkish candidacy of John McCain offers an opportunity for peace advocates. War vs. peace, militarism vs. diplomacy, investment in military vs. investment in the civilian economy. This is an election year for the peace movement to floursh and educate Americans that war is not the answer -- that war should be seen as an obsolete tool of foreign policy.

Is Dennis Kucinich Getting McKinney'd
(36 comments) Kucinich has been a thorn in the side of the Democratic Party leadership. He's challenged them on impeachment, the war and big business controll of government. Will the peace and impeachment movements come to his aid?

Obama: "I want to end the mindset that got us into war in the first place."
(2 comments) Sen. Obama says he wants to end the "mindset" of war. Does he mean it? Is it consistent with his voting record? With his call for expanding the military by 100,000 troops? And, even if he does -- can he? It will take a well organized citizenry to challenge the military industrial complex. 2008 is a year to organize and 2009 is a year to pressure the new president.

Air Force Claims Anti-war Minister is a National Security Threat!
(1 comments) As part of a coordinated effort to intimidate leaders of the anti-war movement, the U.S. Air Force is threatening to discharge Rev. Lennox Yearwood, Jr. on the basis of being a national security threat. This shows the absurdity of the military -- accusing an African American anti-war activist of being a security threat. The real threat to U.S. security is U.S. policy in the Middle East.

In 2004 many in the peace movement made the mistake of buying into the "Anybody But Bush" rhetoric. This year we should insist the Democrats end the war if they want the peace vote.
