With New Obamacare Rulings, One Thing Is Certain: We Need Medicare for All for Life It makes me crazy to see the latest news about a Federal Court striking down the tax credits (subsidies) offered on the Federal Affordable Care Act health exchanges. The Republicans are celebrating; the Democrats are scrambling. And the people who hate the ACA/Obamacare as well as those who are pushing to achieve a longer term solution through single-payer reform will claim victory.

Sick Inside Our Broken Health System with that Old Familiar Terror in My Gut We can change the system. But we have to be prepared for some ugly fights that will sometimes be waged against people who claim to be our friends. But what we cannot do is stand by and do nothing while people feel so much terror and shame that is not of their own making. Do something. Step up. Stand for changing this system before you have to stand alone.

On the Eve of Obamacare: Too Smart to Really Fix Our Health Care System, So We Count the Dead Ever listen to the late William F. Buckley, Jr., speak for long periods of time? The drone of his uber-intellectualism was certainly filled with facts we might all have needed to know, but I often feel a similar pallor wash over my brain when the uber-smart of single-payerdom begin their soliloquies.

Weaponized Profits: The US Health Care System Many people who advocate for an improved and expanded Medicare for all for life health system in the US tend to vilify the for-profit, private insurance industry and big Pharma but ignore the atrocities committed by almost every other segment of the system. If we are to fix what ails the US health care system, we will have to get a whole lot more honest about all of the factions that lift profit-making above all else

No Holiday for Killing the Uninsured, the Underinsured and the Broke in the U.S.- Until Health Care is a Human Right An improved and expanded Medicare for all for life system would put an immediate end to the rising death toll related to lack of access to needed care, and it would also end bankruptcies driven by medical crisis and debt. We need to do whatever is required to make that change in our system.

Who Knew There Was So Much Poverty? The Poor, That's Who Being really poor in for-profit-America is worse than any horror movie could ever be.

Power in Numbers: Millions Crowd to Occupy Life The OWS movement allows us to claim a place of pain, and when our broken parts are meshed together they make one huge and unbreakable force. We may not yet know where our force will ultimately take us, but we commit ourselves to outcomes that heal and uplift one another.

'Let 'Em Eat Peas': An Elitist Mantra for Our Age The elite of this nation have largely forgotten the rest of us. We've already sacrificed. There was no sharing of peas or anything else. Wall Street was bailed out; Main Street was sold out. And the march goes on to call for "shared sacrifice." It's a ruse of the most horrible kind, and it dishonors those who have gone before us.

Let's Drop Healthcare Access on One Another, Not Bombs officials in Vermont must understand that warfare on one's own citizens, even if it is economic warfare and class warfare and healthcare warfare, is not desirable behavior and will not be rewarded.

Super Bowl Commercial for the Dead Patients I'd love to see a Super Bowl commercial Sunday that stated the facts about how many Americans will die on Super Bowl Sunday this year because they didn't have access to the healthcare they needed. 123 will die on Sunday

The Pompous or the Populists: Who Will Win the Healthcare Debate? You'd think after eight long and ugly years listening to pompous and wealthy officials slam their versions of social hatred down our gullets, we'd have sent those folks packing for good on January 20, 2009. You'd think.

Happy Mother's Day from America's Health Insurance Plans and Mr. Baucus Wow. America's Health insurance Plan's (AHIP) czar -- and the woman our Congress and president have anointed as the nation's architect of health reform -- has offered a gift to all of America's moms and women. The health insurance industry will stop charging you more - they'll stop discriminating against you - so long as all of you are legally forced to buy their product.

A Mother Asks President Obama To Be Honest About Healthcare We need honesty going forward. We need full disclosure of our options. We need courage and clarity. And we cannot have that if this President and this Congress participate is a pre-choreographed dance to reward the big health industry interests at the expense of the rest of us.

The Big, Bad Joke of Healthcare Reform Healthcare policy discussions and formal hearings underway in D.C. are not filled with the sounds of crafting policies to guarantee what candidate Barack Obama termed a human right. Instead, they center on "benefit connectors" and "cost containment" or "reinsurance" and "tiered benefits" or "payment incentives and physician bonus opportunities." Few walk the healthcare-is-a-human-right talk.

The Horror of Healthcare in America The reality is we know having health insurance is not being protected in this nation. It is simply a hedge against being turned away at the door or labeled less worthy of the best care because our financial standing does not hold us in the best stead with our providers. Having health insurance doesn't protect us from financial ruin or even from being denied a life-saving treatment.

A Suspension of Our National Soul Not only have we bitten off our own heads, we've set aside our souls just on the hope of great wealth. We've let those with big bank balances and big real estate holdings convince us that they also have big brains to fix the big mess and better judgment somehow than the everyday neighbors who must balance much more pressure on much less in resources.
