What politicians in the US won't tell you about the war on drugs It is time that the American politicians accept the truth: drug addiction is a disease, not a crime. Legalizing and treating addicts is the only way to stop the flow of drugs. Not to mention the savings achieved from the war on drugs plus the revenue on the taxation of such substances

President Bush' Legacy What someone needs to tell Mr. Bush, the 43rd, is that "history will be blaming him" long after his death.

Gay Rights during the Bush Presidency It was a fascinating time to be an activist during the Bush years, and we are hoping that the Obama years bring more successes to our movement.

Sexual Addiction Sexual addiction refers to a controversial phenomenon in which individuals report being unable to control their sexual behavior. It has also been called "hypersexuality," "sexual dependency," and "sexual compulsivity." It affects all human beings and is not dependent on your sexual orientation or gender identity. Studies currently show that 40 percent of people considered sexual compulsives are women.

McCain, Obama, the Press, and "The One" For Example: Is John McCain losing it? Is Sen. John McCain giving fits to conservatives, like those who comprise The Wall Street Journal's editorial board: that they're asking aloud if he's stupid?

The benefits of presidential term limits Could it be that an impending end of Republican rule has made all of these changes possible? Does the Iraqi government feel an imminent Obama victory and they are simply adapting to their new reality?

History of Same Sex Marriage Jurisprudence Once the rest of America sees that gay marriage has not plunged California into the sea or caused the heavens to rain down hellfire, other states will move closer to acceptance.

The Sad State of Our Republic Five years of war combined with the worst tax policies turned a 200 billion surplus inherited from the Clinton administration into a trillion dollar deficit. In the process, Mr. Bush, helped by his choice of Fed Chairman, has created the worst economic crisis since the 1929 depression.

Oil burden The oil burden so measured has risen about 75 per cent during the past year, to its highest level in almost 25 years. This must soon have an economic impact if prices do not quickly reverse. But prices would need to reach about $190 before the burden regained its peak of 1980. It is not clear that prices are at a point where demand will fall.

With these words, let us wed
There is nothing that the GLBT community can do to appease its opponents except, perhaps, disappear. But in one of the exit polls in the 2004 presidential election that got the least attention, 60 percent of voters favor either gay marriage or civil unions. The younger the voters, the more likely they are to favor marriage. To me, that is reason enough to fight for same sex marriages instead of civil unions.

He came bearing gifts He spoke to God and declared there was an "axis of evil" and by lying and manipulating our intelligence-after all the Supreme being was guiding him-he convinced us that we needed to attack a country for no reason other than they were "evil." To this day there are some of us who believe that Iraq destroyed the twin towers.

HIV in Puerto Rico from a Puerto Rican perspective Machismo is the norm - women are secondary and subservient to males. Gay men are well below women in the social structure, where homosexuality is generally equated only with drag queens and effeminate men.

We grow up in very close-knit families with the mother as the anchor of the matriarchal hierarchy. Men wear the pants but women are the ones we fear.

Stagflation Stagflation becomes a dilemma for monetary policy when policies usually used to increase economic growth will further increase runaway inflation while policies used to fight inflation will further the decline of an already-declining economy. For example, the Central Banks of the world have been printing money to the tune of billions of dollars to ease the credit crunch of local banks-a move that causes inflation in itself-to t

Is Health care a right or a priviledge? You can measure the wealth of a country in many ways. The real wealth of a country depends on how healthy and educated the population is. In both of these measurements, the U.S. is behind some Third World countries. Health insurance is not a priviledge--it's a right. We, as the wealthiest nation in the world, have an obligation to educate and take care of our citizens' health.

Teach English to all foreigners Lets teach and encourage our youth to read and speak more than one language. I am embarrassed that when they travel overseas Americans expect everyone to speak English to them. Few would even bother to take a language book to at least try to learn survival phrases. Most are upset because the rest of the world will not answer them in English.

Minneapolis bridge falls-is this a metaphor for the end of our republic? Finally – the emperor has gone mad. There is no other way to describe the Bush administration. Our country is suffering and he does not seem to care. By his own admission, he does not read newspapers nor does he care about polls unless they support his desires. He has yet to attend the funeral of one of our fallen soldiers in Iraq, yet he has time for a photo op in Minneapolis.

Dow Giveth, Dow Taketh Away When it comes to the economy, the national mood is a combination of dissatisfaction and fear. A recent Gallup poll found that 66 percent of Americans think national economic conditions are "only fair" or "poor."

I don't believe in fireworks anymore I was mourning the death of a Lady who used to call the four cardinal points loud and clear: "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
