Dmitry Kotvun carried the Polonium 210 with him to the meeting with Litvenenko. There is a strong chance Litvenenko's poisoning was accidental. It looks more and more like the people handling the Polonium had no idea of its physical properties, which is why they left the trail they did: a competent assassain would have employed an undetectable dose aimed at generating a long-term malignancy, not a massive dose that killed almost immediately. A bunch of amateurs with an angle - except for the Polonium. That is very worrying. Where did they get it from? The age of the isotope pretty-much identifies its source. Reading between the lines the isotope is Russian, and the Russians know far more than they are sharing. Putin's reluctance to allow German and British access to Kotvun means he is involved at some level.

thanks for a spectacular report on the issue. Many of us had long suspected the looney ness of the fingerpointing to the Kremlin and the intense love the BBC has for the case. I would like to say it is becoz they are good, decent upright journos (insert wild maniacal laughter here) rather than frustrated nincompoops with a moronic yearning to be relevant and influential in their Holy Grail of Washington and grassroots America. This is laughable, becoz they have said not one word about the potential let alone the actuality of the shadow network and shadow world that Litvinenko apparently lived in. all the nonsense about the death bed denouncements looked farcical and ludicrous and made only too clear by Putin and the Kremlin's amused non comment on the issues. They probably see no urgency to enlighten America and American voters about a shadow network that led America to war, planted bogus documents, hijacked our defense policy, snowed and bamboozled the gullible president and has entrapped us in a war that will cost close to $1 trillion, killed 3000 brave troops, wounded 20 000 others and massively burdened our standing in the world, our ability to self defend and our influence in central asia and the caspian. There is no question that although the blame game points at Putin and the looney likud press is falling over itself to point at him, the Kremlin is laughing itself silly at the way they are completely unaffected, while the damage is to the people of America. It is clear the Russians have no interest in being in the vanguard of exposing the shadow networks, including shall we say, the Shadowy Shin Bet cell that reportedly produced all those delicious forgeries that were so handily brandished around just after the fall of Baghdad. What is less clear and in fact intensely bizarre is why the mainstream American press had not pursued this, none of these shadow activities are in America's interests. None. It is also unclear why the mainstream CIA and intel refuses to comment and clarify the extreme lunacy of their secret rendition program, which had no need to be secret or criminal and which never needed to use creepy mid east and asian prisons rather than upfront judicial and criminal processes right there in Europe and Canada. As the CIA, Pentagon, yaddas long standing unpaid captive, I can also report this entire article and the beginning of my comment was accompanied by extreme raucousness, rudeness and disgusting vicious remarks by the chorus of compound bawlers. You can draw your own conclusions, I have stopped ascribing rationality to their extremely disgusting disruptions. Bye bye for now, the sooner peeps stop looking at me, the happier I will be.
