We, the people that call ourselves citizens of The United States of America, have witnessed an evil that has crept into the very soul of this country, led by liars and scoundrels that not only want to conquer the world, but take away our freedoms. There has never been such a crisis of faith in which we as a people are experiencing today. What is it that our nation is trying to accomplish on this Earth? Everything that we have stood for, every law that we have crafted to keep us free, has been slashed and stomped on by the very people that claim that they are doing God’s will.
If there is a God, the things that our government has done in his name and in the name of this mindless “war on terror” has led this nation to exterminate over a million people. They have brought death and sadness, and loss of loved ones to thousands upon thousands of American families for nothing. The savagery of this administration’s actions has warranted little more than a whimper from those that are charged with keeping this nation from harm. Yet we continue to debate and intellectualize these random acts of violence that this government has caused.

Americans are sick and tired of hearing what the weak-willed, lily-livered representatives of the people, are going to do to stem these abuses of power. We all realize that Congress is not going to do anything until the people rise up and make it known that we would rather have NO GOVERNMENT AT ALL THAN THE ONE WE HAVE NOW! This is a demand that needs to be sent to every government official from the President down to the lowest first term freshman Congressman! We need to rise up and to tell this government that we as a free people will not tolerate any more lies and anymore wars.
The people of America are a patriotic people, but that doesn’t mean that we are self-serving nationalists. This war in Iraq has been recognized by the people for what it is; a land grab for control of the Middle East and the oil that is in the ground underneath it. We also recognize the efforts that this administration has used to deceive the very people that they are responsible too. They have lied, time and time again, in front of Congress, to investigators and to the weak-kneed press that is afraid to stand up to their lies. Tell me, what else can this administration do to convince the American people that the Neo-conservative right wing of this country is hell-bent on removing every barrier to total control of this country? What is it going to take for Congress to understand the necessity of removing this administration by impeachment, or by arresting them for contempt of Congress?
How long are we going to continue to march to George W. Bush’s fantastically insane view of the world? Hasn’t this fact been made abundantly clear? Neither Bush nor Cheney should be allowed to operate the Federal Government as if they were running a plantation! I could write a list 20 items long about the abuses of power, the lies told, the hiding of information about the levee failures that led to the deaths of hundreds of people in New Orleans. I could mention the gutting of the constitution and the bill of rights, the lies that led up to the war in Iraq. I could tell you about the intent to start a war in Iran, the flagrant violations of international law, and now the intent by this administration to re-ignite the cold war by stationing missile systems in Poland and the Czech Republic. I could also write about the “unitary Presidency” and the “signing statements” and presidential directives for declaring martial law over the American people that this administration won’t even let ranking members of Congress see! How long does Congress believe we will remain quiet?
This August 28th Move-On.org will hold a vigil for peace all across this nation. Even here in Greenville, SC, many are expected to attend. I caution all Congressmen to take note of these demonstrations across the nation. These are the people that elect to leave the security of home to meet in the company of strangers to send a message to the people that have the power to stop this Administration from continuing their mad schemes.
On September 15th there will be a million or more people in Washington DC, united in their protest of this grotesque abuse of government power perpetrated against the Iraqi people as well as their own citizens.
The time has come for Congress to either put up or shut up. The American people will not tolerate any more statements by boot licking politicians as to what is or what isn’t on the table. THE FUTURE OF THIS NATION IS ON THAT TABLE! Know this and heed this warning; the American people know what time it is. It is time for Congress to do what the Constitution empowers them to do in this situation, in fact it REQUIRES them to impeach. Remember, the people will remember in November. If they are willing to demonstrate, they are willing to vote. The same people that don’t heed this message could find themselves out of a job come January 2009. This isn’t a threat; this is a promise. This is the way I see it.

what the American will allow or how much more they will put up with. At SOME point it will collapse, of course -- that's inevitable -- but it could be a long time yet. The German people did not rise up and overthrow the Nazis -- they were beaten back by the Allies. Sure, there were many people who were unhappy with the situation, but it was no 'orange revolution' (which was largely engineered by the Americans anyway). We do not have the unions or the leader in Lech Walesa that Poland had.
This could go either way. Some dictatorships rise and last for many years before they collapse or are torn away. Consider the Soviets, or Rome (which took centuries to collapse)! I've seen this building for near 50 years, and excpet for a blip in 60's it's been growing fairly steadily, while the people have been numbed and dumbed. It's hard to apply history -- the world is not the same in some very important ways, and sociological forces exist which were never before at this magnitude: the internet, the "South", meaning places like Venezuela, the climate changes, mass media, easy travel, the growth of psychology and propaganda techniques -- and the chaos.
Congress critters out of a job? Maybe -- but will it matter? What sort of people will replace them? I rather suspect that there IS no political solution (meaning electorial politics), but that nothing will change until people organize and change the culture itself -- brake the informational and cultural hegemony. This can happen, in fact it COULD happen amazingly quickly -- or it might be many years. That's thing about chaos -- you don't know.

Glad you decided not to stop writing. Meanwhile, it is too late they've gone over my deadline for them, and I have been active seeking candidates to run against the cowards, especially Pelosi. Sheehan said publicly, she will do so, I will help her with donations, writing and whatever else is necessary and legal. I will do the same for other Dems or independents who run against sitting members of congress of either party, who voted with the Bushites.

WE HEAR YOU AND AGREE! IMPEACHMENT IS ON THE TABLE!
IF THERE WERE ANY DARKER BOLD ON MY COMPUTER I WOULD USE IT. I AM ANGRY, FURIOUS, EMBARASSED BY MY COUNTRY AND READY TO DO SOMETHING, ANYTHING TO MAKE CONGRESS ACT.
I SEND EMAILS ALL THE TIME ASSURING THEM THAT IF THEY DON'T ACT ON IMPEACHMENT THEY WILL BE OUT ON THE STREET SOON. I THINK THEY ARE UNDERESTIMATING THE FEELINGS OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

The Democratic Caucus in the House of Representatives passed a law setting a time-table for the withdrawal of US forces from Iraq.
It was tabled in the conference with the Senate and watered down.
This watered down version was then vetoed by the President.
Isn't it more important to generate pressure on the Dems and vulnerable GOP reps who failed to vote for a timetable, than to run off on the fool's errand of impeachment?
No wonder we can't get the troops home.

You would have realized that this article WAS directed to Congress, not just for Impeachment which we need desperatly, but for everything they have done. (including the war). I don't know hoe I could make myself any clearer than I did on this article.

bit I've seen that picture with that caption before -- and I don't know why it was captioned like that by whoever did it originally. Possible just an error, mistaking it for another picture of the dead, which I've also seen.
The one million figure is the extrapolation of the Lancet study of 665,000 adjusted by the death rate since it was done.
