Bill's behavior this weekend gives me pause.  It seems to me that  he is in deep emotional trouble.  He may realize that he may have destroyed his wife's campaign.  This would be the second time he has hurt Hillary.  I know he wants to compensate for the deep hurt he caused her in 1998.  That put an awful strain on their marriage.  The next real challenge for the Clintons will be whether they can save their relationship if she loses.  Given Bill's recent behavior, I think he knows that the stakes for him are more than a primary loss.

Emotional trouble?

Bill has been in emotional trouble for a long time. The pity party for Hillary is getting old. She knows exactly what he is and she has chosen to stay with him. He is her problem. The media has stated repeatedly that she is an intelligent and strong woman. She makes her own decisions.

Stand by your abuser

It's dangerous for a woman to stick with her abuser no matter what. if she stays, he will hurt her again, and she will lose public respect, her image, her self esteem, her strength, her soul. That's the story of Hillary's life.

She is an intelligent, competent politician, but she has accepted the unacceptable from Bill; it's a persistent stain on her character and finally it has destroyed her electability. Who wants an abused wife still under the influence of her abuser in the White House? people want somebody who can say no, and clearly, accepting this  sick situation with Bill made her lose her credibility as a strong leader.

Bill has been a millstone around her neck, it's her personal kharmic ordeal and she is a tragic character.

reports

sheldon - as someone who was immersed in work all weekend, i am not privy to what bill clinton's behavior was like this weekend. can you provide some info on that. others may not know either.  after reading your post, i did do a quick search. are you referring to the exchange clinton had with an obama supporter? thanks

yeah, he just can't seem to control himself can he? after the firestorm down south he came up to stump for her in new jersey - camden, to be exact. reports were that he appeared neutered. gave a short and passionless speech and left out the back door. i couldn't help but wonder how long that would last. apparently, not long enough.

hoping we don't get to that point, but he really should be showing the country what kind of first man he will be and if this is it what an annoying 4 years that will be.

seriously?

you would use the word "annoying" to describe bush and cheney? are you kidding me? annoying is like a mosquito buzzing around or a gnat. i was commenting simply on b. clinton's sniping. yea, i think it would be annoying for him to be walking around as "first man" sniping at people who criticize his president wife.

when people think of the bush/cheney administration i hardly think "annoying" comes to mind. history certainly won't use that word i can bet. how 'bout abominable, detestable, unworthy, evil, fascist... shall i go on?

this is small potatos next to post So Car

When Bill said "Jesse won SC" as a racialist putdown, that was the end of Bill.

Had it been ANY OTHER high campaign official, they'd have been replaced.

Hill's best chance now is to fire Bill!  Bill's best chance, if he wants a post in a new Dem admin, is to suck up to Obama who, please remember, two months or so ago said he'd have Bill "in a second" were he elected prez.

Of course, that offer may now be off the table...

Could Obama offer Hill the first Supreme Court nomination?

Though I've never been a big fan of Bill

I don't think this mean's he's melting down. He's been president, surrounded by yes men, sycophants and, respectful advisors. Now, he has to climb down, off the pedestal, wade into the masses and face them in a very different role.

I don't see a problem with him trying to spin Obama.

I don't see a problem with him responding to a heckler the way he did.

I'm okay with the way he handled the anti-abortion protesters.

But a wiser man could have done it better and smarter, so it was portrayed as a sign of his wisdom. Then again. The rodents in the MSM who dog Clinton are looking for video-bytes where they can mock him and make him look bad. I'm sure he has moments of wisdom and grace, and that they ignore them.

Don't be so quick to attack Bill for being caught on video for a few seconds here or there. Before we know it, they will be doing the same thing with Obama. And notice that we're not seeing such moments of McCain screwing up. These TV spots are hits against the left. Don't have any doubt about it.

I agree Rob

Bill Clinton was the president of the United States who now finds himself in the midst of a heated battle where rhetoric is flying from both directions. Also it seems that some people have apparently forgotten, he was a very popular president until the Starr machine and his neocon compatriots came along and made his personal life public then threw in a bogus impeachment for good measure. Now here we go again only this time it isn't the neocons, or is it? Meanwhile the real insanity resides in the White House and his clone is making a bid to refill the coming vacancy.

If she looses.....

based on my experience....I would have said the "marraige" was over in the 90's.  They only stayed together as a deal to get her to the Whitehouse and if that fails, no need for Bill.

He should just be quite for awhile and let things run there course.  But I would have to say, that barring monkey business, Obama is going to get the nomination.

I wouldn't speculate on teh Clinton's marriage

Look, I don't like the Clintons -- and it would be fair to say that I utterly despise the Clintons -- but I think that there is too much trying to fit their marriage into our norms.

Well, whatever their relationship is, it's not what we're used to seeing, and it seems to me that, such being the case, idle speculation that she'll kick him to the curb if she loses is just that: idle speculation.  We evil right-wingers did plenty of that during the 1990s, and y'all are about to make the same mistake.

Besides, if she loses the nomination, and Senator McCain beats Senator Obama in November, she could run again in 2012, even though she'd be 64.  So even if you assume that she has nothing but a political motive for not divorcing him, you'd have to wait a while to know.

I get sick and tired of ANY rationalizations about them

All the scandals - not JUST sexual ones - are well known to everyone except maybe the political pundits on OpEd News.  I know, I read the common person's threads on other sites.

The absolute depravity of them is well known to the rest of the world.

Just a listing off the top of my head:

1. The peter f. Paul story whereby they took Peter Paul for one million dollars at a fundraising and later had him put in a Brazilian prison, in communicado with his family.  KNOWN FACT, and there is a video anyone can watch, a movie.

peterfpaul.com

Why does this case NOT go to court? Right now the whole story is being factchecked.  There are other videos about it on youtube. This is the biggest campaign fraud in American history. FACT.

2. Norman Hsu and the shakedown of Chinese busboy's in Chinatown Question: Will Norman Hsu turn state's evidence?? I'll stick in here here her $5 million dollar campaign funds to HERSELF.

3. GM foods and Hillary's involvement in MONSANTO. Former college colleagues of Hillary's are writing publically in opposition to her candidacy on those grounds. Did I mention WALMART and how those items SHE personally endorsed were made in ... CHINA?  Her relationship with Sam Walton is MOST interesting.

4. The current saga about Bill and Frank Giustra being reported by Don Natta in the NYT, which the NYT's seems determined to SHUT UP.  The Clinton Foundation has taken in billions of dollars under the cover of being an AIDS resource - when in fact, it is all a cover to make vast amount of money doing uranium prospecting in ROGUE NATIONS.  Since we no longer conveniently have Brewster Jennings (how useful!) the proliferation of nuclear materials and technology goes noticed and under the radar.  Here's a fine google:

Frank Giustra William Clinton Khazakhstan

and see what you come up with and ask yourselves why the rest of the world is following this story but NOT the USA. The only reason I can see that this is NOT getting more airplay is that so many rich people were suckered into to donating to "charity" - and at the same time got suckered into the "make profits off uranium" ploy of Frank and Bill.  Don't say Hillary doesn't know ALL about Bill's "branding" power. If she is SO smart, she surely knows how the scam worked.  Could it be she loved those dirty piles of money? Why don't they let the Presidential files out - it's a FEDERAL LAW for them to be released, you know, nothing to do with "national security" at all, but rather good cover for all the CRIMES that such records might reveal.

5.  Why DID Marian Edelman and her husband distance themselves from Hillary?  I know why, do you?

6. Do you know why Hillary favors sanctions above guns? Check out the oil for food scandal and Lord Malloch-Brown's involement. They KILLED one million Iraqi children with this ..

7. Do you know about Executive Order 12919, changed to Exec Order 13303? Did you know that BuZh just put the finishing touches on this past month?

8. We won't get too deeplyl involved in what happened at Mena airstrip, but Madcow News sure can provide some good information on that.

9. Why do SO MANY at Free Republic detest them both for what happened to American prestige under the Clinton's "watch" .. those guys do not know where to turn . they call McCain "McInsane" and fear his temper and suggest he may be a manchurian candidate.  They detest "cigar Bill" and the Queen but they aren't too fond of "Obama Hussein" who they think is a left wing dupe . . so the debates on there about who to support leaves them totally baffled. They figure they can live through Hillary IF she supports those in the Gulf zone against Islamofascism which they believe is true (they've been forcefed pics of beheadings and ignore the torture going on in Bagram and Guantanamo which the left hasn't made enough noise about, FRANKLY - they never give the victims faces and don't do much to expose WAR CRIMES). The POINT being that the Clintons have already sunk the American stature throughout the world.

10. There are those, like myself, who were totally persecuted under their last regime, the cases you do not hear about. The Chinese soldiers who were slave labor to put in fiberoptic cable for a company in which Bill was a lobbyist and principal.  The Chinese and Koreans sitting doing intel on computers like slaves on computers sold to them by Bill Clinton.  And those like me who were persecuted by being deported or prosecuted (and totally unjustly given mandatory sentencing) under the so-called War on Drugs who are now into year 13 or 15 of fighting BACK.

To my mind, the RACISM of these two FAR FAR outweighs forgiving them for some stained dress. We have been victims of them both for WAY TOO LONG.  Of course, those who care to play political "gamesmanship" and talk about "electibility" are not going to see the influence peddling and the arrogant beligerance and obvious insanity as leadnig to genocide and torture -- oh, no that's all about BuZHco, isn't it. But some of do know better and are APPALLED.

I will never rest until I see her prosecuted for at least some of her crimes.  I've had other women victims of her writing to me for over a decade as we got displaced here in Canada or in Costa Rica !!

Like Good Germans, all Americans can just pretend that they don't KNOW such things are happening .. but they did happen.. and they ARE happening and largely to women and people of COLOR.  Not always, but mostly.

For those of us opposed to WAR CRIMES and CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY, we'll just have to keep up our efforts to expose these two without much help from Democrats.

The recent rioting in Belgrade is spurred on by the USE OF DU in Serbia, Croatia and throughout the Balkans .. genocide was committed on the Clintoinistas watch .. I don't forget, they don't forget, but I guess alot of people on OpEd News just "forget".

How gave the orders to fire at Waco?  At Ruby Ridge and at Pine Ridge?? Are you aware that that 28 CHILDREN unnessary killed at WACO were NOT American, but from the UK? Why was not the UK called in to offer assistance to these CHILDREN who are/were -- supposedly -- protected by the UN??  Why did the ATF, to in guns blazing, when they KNEW the composiiton of the "compound"?  Who do you think cooked that up? The ATF?

Who do you suppose turned FEMA into a department of the DHS?? Bush??? not so. Think about NOLA. and Hillary's response to the NOLA disaster is ..

No wonder I see increasing use of this:  F-USA.

Why would ANYONE, please tell me this, want to put WAR CRIMINALS in office in what was once the most creative country ever devised?  Ones who show NO REPENTENCE for what they have done?? Things the world will never forget??

And to my mind, she is the worst indication of womanhood imaginable for America .. like Cond, SHE, not HE, made me ashamed of what western women have become.  And she has no ethics as a lawyer, that is for sure, otherwise she would be UPHOLDING THE CONSITUTION and the Supreme Law of the Land which includes Geneva, the last I looked, regardless of what that new AG says -- a man whose appointment SHE approved.

And now there is the SCALIA mess ..

And on and on and on it goes . sure loved the way she stood up to be counted on the FISA issue, too .. they had warrantless wiretaps on MY phone for no evidential reason; they couldn't get a warrant as there was NO CAUSE. Score another one for Hillary and AT&T last week, the WALL STREET CANDIDATE!!

These are the two TEFLON presidents, par deluxe.

seeing the 'real Bill'

may not be pretty, but may be instructive. Making excuses for him, accepting spin and etc as just regular parts of the political process.....isn't that what so many want change from? Two dimensional celeb loving isn't going to solve any of our endemic problems.

And frankly, if Hillary really wants a shot at the job, she should file for divorce.  Now.

Wow

It is amazing.  A couple of years ago if someone wrote something bad about Bill Clinton it was akin to saying the Pope was a child molester.   By bad, I mean something that he actually did.  Bill could have had his wife's best friend murdered and everyone would have hailed him as a saint in heaven for doing it or at least said "not our Bill".  Republicans loved to Clinton Bash almost, but not quite, as much as Democrats love to Bush Bash and now the Democrats have opened their eyes and can see what a bit of pond scum this guy really is.  Clinton hasn't changed.  He was always this way, but people wanted to believe in him and give him more than the benefit of the doubt no matter what he did.  It is the same with Obama.  What you see with him, unfortunately, is not what you are going to get I am afraid if I am reading him correctly.  That is too bad.  Lots and lots of promise there.  We will see.  It is early yet.

Peter F. Paul

I have a hard time feeling sorry for someone like Peter Paul.  He is a big boy and seemed to be smart and experienced enough to figure out that he was being taken a long time before the hammer fell.   He, in my opinion, was totally naive and the people around Clinton (at Clinton's direction?) apparently took advantage of him.

When it comes to big money you should never write the checks without a platoon of lawyers checking everything out very closely and Paul should have known this.  He was taken there is no doubt about it in my mind by the Clinton people.  It looks from his story that they knew what they were doing from Day 1.   And Paul probably wasn't the only one to be victimized this way.  He might have been their biggest fish though.

Hmmm . . . lotta anger out there

for the only American president still living that is internationally revered, came as close as anyone to brokering an Israeli-Palestinian peace, balanced the budget, paid down the national debt and sullied the Constitution no worse than a casual blow-job.
