Headlined on 4/14/08:
Did Hillary Do A "Man Thing" Dukakis Moment?

by Rob Kall     Page 1 of 1 page(s)

Hillary Doing the Man thing?

They've been showing Hillary throwing down a shot with a beer. It's a joke, right? This reminds me of past Dem presidential candidate Michael Dukakis (elected with the help of superdelegates?) who sealed the fate of his presidency when he tried to do "the man thing" by riding in a tank. Here's an image from an attack ad used against him.

Dukakis Doing the Man Thing

And then there's that great white hunter, Bwana Kerry, whose hunting outings were cause for laughter and derision.

Kerry Doing the Man-Thing-- Hunting

So, the question is, how about the Hillary, belting down those brews? How real is that scene?

Will the hair of the dog come back to bite her? If it doesn't that'll tell us where the corpstream media think their bread is buttered. So far, it's been presented without any reference to past efforts by candidates to pander to blue collar guy demographics.

Don't Forget....

...the MSM benefits from a long, drawn-out, drama.

It's their advertising dollars that they're concerned about.  It's a win-win for them to side with the alleged, "underdog," of this contest.

As long as Obama doesn't pull out the "Simon-bar-Sinister" routine, the whole sponsor-dollars-per-blow metric goes down the lew.

I bet she'd be great to have a beer with too

She also apparently has a thing against ducks, and shoots 'em with the other good 'ol boys, since she is apparently a good 'ol boy herself. And what's more important than that?

I just hope she doesn't keep her guns loaded and bottles full next to the bedstand, because they'll get in the way when the phone rings at 3 AM.

Idealism and vision or "the man thing" and politics as usual

Al Gore was considered “elitist”,  George Bush was “someone you could have a beer with.”  Hillary calls Obama “elitist”, puts out a video with her “knocking back shots at an Indiana bar.”

Do we really want again to vote into office the presidential candidate who seeks our votes on the basis of a  “meet me at the bar”  appeal.  Or this time, will we support the person who has idealism and vision and seeks to bring change that is desperately needed in this country.

“That was in no way a demeaning of a faith that I myself embrace,” Mr. Obama said. “When economic hardship hits, they have faith, they have family, they have traditions that have been passed on from generation to generation. Those are not bad things. Those are the things that are left.”

Hopefully, Pennsylvanians will decide that Obama wasn't condescending to them, but empathizing with them -- and that their plight would be his mission as president.

time-wasting trivia games

Lets try to get a good shot of her, and Obama and McCain for that matter picking their teeth and taking a shit.

I am almost ready to shut down getting OEN, please stay off the myopic and get back on the topic. Lots of women throw down shots and chase them with beers, she never said she was a teetotaler.

Both Obama and Hillary are Senators, yet both get coverage ONLY as candidates, even while trying to behave like senators. Petraeus, Mullen, Gates, and others have been talking about a so-called "proxy-war" coming from Iran, and Bush is giggling and talking doubletalk.

Can we just quit the spin cycle and try to seriously stop the war machine from blowing us out of existence?

doing shots

God, I hope that we don't have to be subjected to any photos of any of the candidates anywhere NEAR a bathroom, let alone in one, but I do agree with you.

Why is it manly to do a shot? I've knocked back a few in my day too.

And I know several women who can shoot a gun, though I'm not a gun person myself.

If we would focus more on the issues and ask the candidates really pertinent questions and make them ALL answer it would be a better use of our time than all the silly sniping. They are all 3 politicians during a presidential campaign; they all want to win. Enough said. So... we pin them down and find out which one will actually walk the talk and vote for him or her. Ah, yes, I am still idealistic.

Belly up to the bar, ladies. This round's on me.

all wrong

When I saw Dukakis in a tank, I knew there was something very wrong.  He should never have run for governor, let alone president.  As a former resident of Massachusetts I remember his only qualification was the miracle, when the Bay State went from high unemployment to negative unemployment.

Dukakis ran on that miracle, unfortunately, by the time he got the nomination, the unemployment rate in Massachusetts had gotten high again.

Dukakis should have run for president of a liberal arts college, to inspire great minds.  I see him as leader of a think tank, working on ending world poverty and solving the world's problems through volunteers.

Elitist

Did everyone miss the part where Reagan and the other republicans told us that they were the party that had an "in" with God and the democrats wanted to take away our guns? Am I the only one who understands what Obama was saying. Elitist?
I vacationed and learned to shoot a gun at the family "cottage" in PA.
We used the good china after we cooked up our kill in the "cottage" my father built.
Well now I'm off to have a beer and a jack daniel's.
