In 1994 and 1995, The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the WTO (World Trade Organization) were passed respectively.

The adoption of these two agreements opened the door for U.S. Corporations to move to foreign soil where profits could once again soar and CEO’s could be paid millions per year by taking credit for such elevated profits.

And, in many ways, the credit does go to these entrepreneurial Big Business leaders for purchasing the proper politicians. Who otherwise would have supported the necessary legislation?

Would jobs be lost to Middle Americans? Most certainly, but as we have seen, Middle America is disposable when compared to maintaining the lifestyle of the wealthy.

What were the largest incentives for U.S. Corps to move to less developed nations? I’ll abbreviate the nearly endless list to get to the point of this short post. Certainly, cheap labor was at the top of the list. No OSHA, no workers comp, no union agreements; important issues to be sure. But what about EPA standards? Conforming to America’s EPA principles is expensive, sometimes to a point of making manufacturing unprofitable.

Both from the cost of compliance, and the cost of the continually raging legal battles, meeting E.P.A. standards is a very costly bummer for U.S. business. NAFTA and the WTO opened the door to a way out of this compliance. Move out and leave all your troubles behind. Sort of.

There are aspects of NAFTA, GATT, and the WTO that I find interesting, in that they receive no ink.

Who was president during this period? Acting president was of course Hillary Clinton, as no less an expert source than, Hillary Rodham Clinton testifies to. But to get to the point of this article, who was Vice-President? Albert Arnold Gore Jr., a devout champion of global commerce and 2007 winner of the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on global warming. Really?

The passage of NAFTA, GATT, and the WTO on Mr. Gores watch, established the most insatiable appetite for the unchecked increase in global warming activity that this world has ever seen.

The irretrievable runaway damage that the purposeful redirecting of America’s now $14 Trillion consumption based economy to areas outside of our environmental oversite, could have been seen by a blind man on a fast horse.

This activity continues to gain unprecedented momentum that shows no sign of retreating. All this, with the full and intentional assistance of Albert Arnold Gore Jr., the worlds leading authority on global warming.

Maybe Mr. Gore is an expert by virtue of creation, no less than the creator of the atomic bomb was an expert in his field.

Today, Americas west coast forest’s are at risk due to coal dust…from China!

Perhaps Mr. Gore can take the Alan Greenspan approach of saying, “I just didn’t see it coming.” After all, that was 12 years ago and maybe he deserves a “do-over.”
