1984, HERE WE COME!

Tell A Friend

Years ago, I developed the habit of watching the cable television Sunday news channels in order to learn what was happening in the world. Today I watched but not for the same reason; today it was just for comic relief! I snickered, snorted, and even laughed out loud as the vaunted pundits lied, alibied, and wriggled out of their share of responsibility for the mess in which our nation now finds itself. They discussed the stories about Tilman and Lynch. Why did they buy into them with such gusto? Well....... they had those twenty-four hours a day that they had to fill and they were such good stories! And, besides the tales were spoon-fed to them by the military!

On to critiques of the Democratic debates. Who "won"? Who "lost"? They are all married to the "tier system". Hillary did well, and Barack was not up to par. For "some reason" the major question posed to Edwards was his $400 haircut! Mike Gravel made the most of his "moment in the sun" but he has no money and probably will not be heard from again, while Dennis Kucinich was also there but nobody paid any attention except the "loony left". The talking heads have decided that it is going to be Hillary vs. Rudy in 2008 and they are all slavering over the number of "big stories" they will glean as the year wears on.

Howard Fineman delivered a touching eulogy for David Halberstam and reviewed his efforts against the Vietnam War and the supression that he suffered at the hands of the Kennedy-Johnson administrations. He did not conmpare him to any of the brave journalists who are risking not only their lives but their careers by "telling it like it is" in today's ill-conceived war. In fact, he studiously avoided mentioning the parallels between the views of Halberstam and those of the "loony left" today.

Barely, if ever, was the death count of 100 troops for the month of April, the most deadly month to date dspite the "surge". They seemed almost relieved to have the looming elections to discuss in order to avoid the bad news and the fact that, if Congress does not stand firm and re-enact the funding bill with the deadlines attached, it just might go on forever.

The "big story du jour" was, of course, George Tenet's new tell-all book. There was no shortage of Republicans who were available to deny its authenticity, (as there were with all the other books on the subject.) "There were no plans to invade Iraq; everybody thought Saddam had weapons of mass destruction; we had tried every option to bring Iraq into compliance with U.N. orders; etc., etc, blah, blah, blah."

They are still going at it as I write, but I have about had my fill of derisive laughter. As Democratic Representative Jane Harmon is trying mightily to downplay Kucinich's Articles of Impeachment against Dick Cheneym she and Republican Representative Adam Putnam are still groping around in the dark, trying to find a "middle way", I opted to return to my computer for the truth.

I know that I am not in the minority in my frustration with the items that are chosen by the mainstream media as subjects for discussion. I can only think about the old adage of "straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel". The "third rail" of politics is no longer Socaial Security; it is now the honesty and integrity of the people who have our nation in their deadly talons and threaten to destroy it if the people do not rise up as one and depose them. Short of starting a fund to put a computer in every home in the country so that the truth is available to all, is there a way that we can educate the public short of a campain to destroy television as a medium? We know that most Americans get their news from television but how do we get our views aired on TV?

Phil Donahue was cancelled rather promptly as the war began because he was opposing the administration, and now Rosie O'Donnell is "voluntarily" removing her opinions from daytime television. How much longer will Keith Olbermann last? And then who is next? Jon Stewart? Stephen Colbert? It seems that the noose is drawing more tightly as the most outspoken critics of the administration are being deprived of their public voices. What's next? Tapping our phones? We have that. Monitoring our computers? Done! Censoring our television? Completed! Monitors on our streets? Coming right up. Listening devices in our pillows? Don't be too sure.

The author is a very "with-it" old lady who aspires to bring a bit of truth, justice, and commom sense to a nation that has lost touch with its humanity in the search for societal "perfection".

The U.S. mainstream is more to be pittied, than emulated!

The author correctly expounds upon the number one greatest problem confronting mainstream America today: Will it continue to allow itself to be lead to destruction, by the "judas goats" of the mainstream media? Nothing illustrates the pathetic state of the contemporary mainstream American mentality, than the tragi-comedy of American Politics! Annointed Democratic and GOP crooks, each vie for the privilege of swindling the public each election cycle! Having pretty much denied alternative candidates any hope of winning our increasingly mindless elections, mainstream Americans rigidly limit themselves to "party" choices, exactly like they do, in communist countries! What is the difference between Democratic crooks, and Republican crooks? What can the U.S. public expect, if they continue to elect either of these sets of crooks, to high office? In both cases, nothing but plenty of trouble! Having been reduced to begging these criminals to do the right thing once in office, the mind boggling extent, the media has robbed the U.S. public of political savvy, is unmistakable!

Under the mass hypnosis of mainstream media spinmeisters, the U.S. public has pretty much abandoned critical thinking, and instead, gets it's daily dose of completely irrational viewpoints, from mainstream newsources! This sets the stage for the farce, that passes for politics in this decidedly post-intellectual nation! Even numerous examples of Democratic collusion, and worthlessness, as an effective opposition, has failed to inform the U.S mainstream voter! On the contrary, nothing proves their political incompetence more, than their foolish faith, in the Democrats as an "opposition" party! This dismal exercise in futility, is the best solution, 21st century mainstream America has managed to come up with, to deal with the lawless Bush administration! 19th century Americans would have had no trouble at all, throwing both Democratic and GOP bums, out of office on a wholesale basis! The smug, and far more "educated", 21st century mainstream American however, is totally incapable of perfoming, even this elementary act of political common sense!

We've become so politically incompetent, this long overdue housecleaning, condemned by the media, is dutifully avoided, by the hapless mainstream voter! Since the U.S. public clearly is unwilling or unable to think anything, except what the media tells it to think, they've locked themselves into a mental prison of their own making! The U.S. mainstream today, is truly more to be pittied, than emulated! This situation really doesn't have to exist however, because an effective solution is as simple, as recognizing that the mainstream media, is not a source for real news, but merely a source for propaganda and lies! The story of the U.S. is a work in progress, by their unfortunate addiction to the lying mainstream media, contemporary Americans are well on their way to the dubious distinction, of being the generation that became so dumb, they allowed the likes of George W. Bush, to rob them of every benefit bequeathed them, by George Washington!

Gee, you wrote that well

and i enjoyed reading it.  But, having lived a very long time, I find it impossible to be so totally pessimistic.  Taking the long view, Americans have been in similar trouble before and, when enough people discover that their own ox has been gored, we do have a way of making corrections.  It may get worse before it gets better but it WILL get better.  We will find a way and the people will take back out country.  However, I may not live to see that wonderful day.  Nonetheless I shall die knowing that it will happen.

While I certainly hope that you're right...

Americans have never faced such dire domestic threats, without the voice of a free press, to provide balance, and genuine debate. With the rise of the mainstream media propaganda apparatus, balance and debate have effectively dissappeared, from the national discourse. This is a major catastrophe, which still escapes far too many contemporary Americans! This toxic media, arrayed against the public, acts as a weapon of mass mental destruction. That millions of people have been reduced to acting more like trained seals, than responsible adults, is a testament to it's power to put real thoughts, into the minds of real people!

The people that started this nation shared a profound love of liberty, and distrust of government! Contemporary Americans share a profound love of money, and a child-like trust in government! It doesn't take much effort to see which generation, is best suited to the task of defending the Constitution, and the republic!

media propaganda

There is much propaganda in Americas media and a few who tell it like it is. i feel the biggest propaganda threat lie in the research conducted by corporate funded think tanks. Most people assume that the information generating by think tanks and institutes are objective and meant to help everyday common citizens like themselves. Many theories and research results from think tanks are cooked up to please their corporate donors. Our universities sometimes teach these theories as well.

Free trade and globalization has been tauted for years as the answer to all the worlds economic problems. Big corporations desperately want you to believe this so they can increase their profits and power. The truth is free trade has only benefited the wealthy elite, distribution of wealth has been steadily changing as the top 3 percent of the population see their incomes increase dramatically year after year.

Americans or not as dumb as most politicians think, they know who is funding their campaigns and what they must do to pay that debt if elected. I feel that the blatant arrogance and incompetence of the Bush administration has woke people up to the fact that we live in a corporate dictatorship and things need to change.

You are right.

Rampant capitalism is just as destructive as any other ism without tempering.  It is the delicate balance between capitalistic freedom  controlled by a concern for the common welfare that is necessary to maintain a system like ours.  The pendulum has swung too far in one direction but we must continue to brake it until it starts to swing back.  And I believe that it will.

Munich'The people are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty.' Thomas Jefferson 1787

The so called Main Stream "Liberal" Media doesn't care!

Take for example this morning, with the television on mute I glanced through the Sunday talk shows only to notice, as I'm sure most of you did, that both Face the Nation and This Week had started their programs with Condoleezza Rice doing damage control for this craven Bush cabal. Probably spewing her mendacity as usual? This after former CIA director George Tenet has come out and stated that this prevaricating administration had targeted Iraq even before 911!

It  just goes to show how important 911 was to this administration. They needed it to convince the American sheeple of just how evil Saddam and Iraq were. But we now know different, most of us anyway. Because without their 911 there'd be no bilking of the United States, or Iraq and it's resources.

This so called "Liberal" media is merely controlling what we see and hear. It's corporate fascism at it's finest. For as long as it continues so shall the lies and manipulation by this nefarious administration. It is why we cancelled cable. No longer will I allow myself to listen to the Wolf Blitzer's, the Chris Matthew's or Dana Bash's. Talk about trash talk!

These people aren't journalists! They're nothing more than well paid corporate media hucksters. Sadly, many Americans continue buying their rotten goods.

It doesn't take an Einstein

to figure out that all those "pundits" live in DC, in New York, or in commuting distance.  They are not from here "in the trenches" where the full effect of their actions there are really felt.  They, along with those who work there, are so well-paid that they have no inkling of why the poor are struggling with poverty or the middle class cannot pay their bills.  It's sad when much of the population turns to them for guidance in what is good for the country.  No wonder they all hate to spend money on on education.  It's the dumb sheeple who keep them in their positions.  They are just having such a good time, rubbing elbows with the power brokers that they just don't give a damn.

Operation Mockingbird revisited....

In 1975 Senator Church's committee discovered that thousands of journalists, reporters, 'pundits' had either been paid or had colluded voluntarily with the CIA to promote state-sanctioned propaganda to the citizens. Since the very beginning of the CIA.

It has been made clear that the policy of 'molding' American sheeply minds has continued unabated. These are not just DC folks. The mockingbirds infiltrate ever level of American 'journalism'.

90% or so of American media is own by five (5) corporations whose sympathies (overt and covert) lie with the oligarchy. News and opinion are filtered therefore from the Top and the Bottom.

Psyops, disinfo, misinfo..... the massaging of American opinion and thought. Why else do we not hear any honest discussion regarding the actual perps of 9/11. The elitists cannot afford honest discussion of anything at all let alone 9/11.

This is NOT going to get better. It is only going to get worse. Until and if we remove the corporate plutocracy from the media, nothing will change except to worsen.

For me, watching the Sunday talking heads is a sure emetic.

To gather negative information about a person

you don't ask their friends about them but someone who is not closely involved with them.  That is the problem with the "lamestream" media.  They all socialize with the politicians.  That's why their little noses are such an embarassingly brown shade.  That ain't a tan!
