Karl Rove has told the Wall Street Journal that he will step down from his position as White House political adviser on August 31.
According to standard Republican scripting, Rove will be departing the White House to spend more time with his family. That is code for behind-the-scenes turmoil. There has been some talk that Cheney and Rove were having disagreements, and one possible point of contention could be Dick Cheney's push to bomb Iran's nuclear infrastructure. Perhaps Rove does not want to be present for that upcoming debacle.
Other possibilities include the fact that Rove is hoping to avoid any subpoenas from Congress concerning the firings of US attorneys, or that Rove will just be moving to a stealth advisory position, where he can continue to work behind the scenes without accountability.
The most likely reason behind the departure is that Karl Rove thoroughly botched the 2006 election. Everything from the incidents of vote caging to the voter suppression techniques used in places like Florida and Ohio were Karl Rove productions, and all of these failed miserably. So it is just possible that Karl Rove is leaving because his bag of tricks is empty, just like Bush’s cranium.

I saw your piece right after I saw the headline at the Wash Post.
The speculation will run around the punditocracy for weeks. Why would Bush's Brain depart now? It seems very odd. Is something really nasty in the works?
Or are they just moving him to a stealthier position?

Maybe there is a secret place that people like Rumsfeld and Rove go when they "step down". It's a secret bunker in the deep bowels of the White House called "the family".
So when they say they are stepping down to spend more time with "the family", they mean they will be spending more time in the secret bunker where they plan things like the invasion of Iran.

One more rat leaving the sinking ship. If Cheney gets impeached what will poor George use for a brain?Chaney has a big family that he needs to spend time with.It is called Halliburton. It is not beyond possibility that Rove might join Chaney’s family. Birds of a feather join together.

It's clear, from Bush's response to Scooter Libby's conviction, that accusations, hearings, prosecutions or even convictions of Bush's henchmen don't affect his use of them. They don't stop working. They just change to doing it from Texas.

Karl Rove Resignation /FBI Has Active Criminal Investigation
This was my open letter to Dana Siegelman last week about Karl Rove and his involvement in the selective prosecution of her father. The FBI has an active criminal investigation into Karl Rove and the White House involvement …I am doing a formal affidavit this week. John Caylor – Editor/CEO Insider-Magazine.com
Please Read - Missing Link - President will be Impeached
Dear Dana Siegelman:
Please Contact Michael Gavin, FBI Montgomery, The FBI left me a code message on the telephone recorder and I believe the Director is ready to jump ship with Gonzales. Also Jill Simpson- Josh McGowen and Jim Parkman will verify our communications.
I am going to be a witness against Deputy Attorney General Joseph Fitzpatrick for the State of Alabama. We believe he is the person mentioned below.
He and his wife were dinner party guests of Karl and Darby Rove at Rosemary Beach, Florida on or about Saturday March 3, 2007, before your father was sentenced to prison. I had drinks with them before the dinner party at Bud-N-Alleys at Seaside, FL.
Jim Parkman thinks that bigger fish were at the party and has written the House Judiciary Committee about my testimony.
I can verify that I was there and have supporting statements from persons I spoke to about meeting them that night. These persons are also credible and former law enforcement agents. I also have bank credit card slips to prove what time the chance meeting took place.
I have 20+ years of veracity with the Federal Law Enforcement agencies and the FBI.
In 1990-92, I was deep cover into the VANPAC mail bomb investigation for the FBI and I can fully document Mark Fuller's and Gary McAiley's involvement with Bush, Sr. in covering for the Enterprise - formerly dubbed - Iran Contra.
I did not get involved or follow your father’s case because of my situation the last year. My mother was brutally murdered by blunt force head trauma in Enterprise, Alabama, last August 2006 and I have been living at a secret location since then.
Please call - Counter Intelligence is at all time high - Your father may not know of my testimony - I have tried to contact Redding Pitt - Milton McGregor's atty's are trying to take control of Jill Simpson and head off her testimony to the House Committee and I believe they will have her killed Soon.

I think you should repost your comment as an article or a diary so that others can link to it or reprint it around the net. This is sort of a scoop it seems, and one that should be broadcast far and wide.

Good riddance to bad rubbish! Black Propogandist Extarordanaire Karl Rove together with Dick Cheney will historically be compared to Goebbels. So when will Cheney and/or Bush take their cue from Nixon and resign?!?

I have been posting suggestions for Karl Rove's future all over the blogs and I hope that someone picks up on it. Someone, somewhere knows how to access Rove's emails/Do it and post them all over the internet.

He is scared. He is now going to play the Wizard of Oz, hiding behind that curtain until, not TOTO, but a US Attorney comes barking up his tree, calling him home to Levanworth... I think.

Before Libby was indicted Jason Leopold of Truthout was on stakeout at Karl Rove's apartment reporting that Rove was being intensely questioned and his (Leopold's) sources were telling him an indictment of was imminent. Then suddenly, Fitzgerald called off the dogs and announced that Rove was not to be indicted. Leopold is an excellent reporter and I'd put my money on his knowing what he was talking about. I'd bet Rove gave Fitzergald Libby. And I would also bet Cheney is revengeful enough to hound Rove for the rest of his days because of it. I can hear him in 06, growling through the side of his mouth, "So, we lost the House and Senate, at least now I can that the mfkn bstrd Rove." So now Cheney has Bush all to himself. Iran will get nuked.

I think Cheney would roll right over Condi. I have read Karl's brief bio and he is/was a human juggernaut with an unlimited store of dirty tricks. But Cheney seems to have dispatched him handily. Cheney is scary. A couple of years ago my liberal friends and I were being pestered by a strange guy at Coffee Underground who said he believed Cheney was a shape-shifting lizard man. (This fellow had evidently read Alexander Sitzin's bizarre theories) Guy kept bothering us week after week. So one time I stood up, took him by the earlobe, pressed a fingernail into his neck and whispered, "We're all shape-shifting lizard people and I have just implanted a tracking device behind your ear. We will always know where you are so don't bother us again." Well, maybe he was right. Maybe Cheney is a shape-shifting lizard man.

Rove may be resigning but he isn't disappearing. The whole foul bunch of trolls have been hatching plots since the time of Reagan. Don't expect them to stay under the bridge for long.
