Two of the most misunderstood figures in human history are God, and Charles Darwin. God is misunderstood because he generally has a much better reputation than the bible would seem to warrant. According to the Bible, God was one of the most jealous, insecure and irritable people in all of history, but you’d never know it by talking to Christians. Most civilized persons would agree that all that smiting, flooding and pillar of salt stuff was just plain mean, and after all that fuss, didn’t achieve their intended goals of purging the world of sin. If God had made things so perfectly right from the start, why all the kerfuffle?

Darwin is misunderstood because most people who don’t believe in evolution know virtually nothing about what Darwin actually wrote. Pick up a copy of Origin of Species and give it a whirl, it is quite a good read. What is perhaps most fascinating, however, is that these two historical figures have been locked in a titanic struggle for well over a century now, despite the fact that the two never actually met as far as we know. Their struggle has been engaged by proxy.

The latest chapter in this struggle pits God against Darwin in the newly opened and lavishly adorned “Creation Museum” in Petersburg Kentucky. The museum shows how people and dinosaurs frolicked together when the earth was young and everyone was a vegetarian, about 6000 years ago.

http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2007/05/31/creation_museum/

The museum goes through the whole shebang from creation to Noah’s ark, and even has time left over to depict the enduring sins of the world. The 6000 year history of the world is covered in detail, and the museum backs up all of it’s conclusions with a mountain of facts. Not those dubious claims from self-important scientists, but rather from an unimpeachable source – God himself. You see, God dictated the bible to transcribers, and they wrote the Bible, and therefore the Bible is absolutely correct. How do we know? Because the Bible says so.

If there is one thing we don’t need in this country, it’s a bunch of scientists and teachers telling school kids that the earth is billions of years old, and that dinosaurs went extinct 65 million years ago, which was about 64.9 million years before human beings evolved. That's pure nonsense based on volumes of scientific evidence, all of which pale in comparison to the infallibility of the Bible.

So in this latest round between God and Darwin, Darwin emerged bruised and bloodied, and God does a victory dance. God one, Darwin zero. The good news for Bible thumpers is that your reading list isn’t getting any longer, whereas those poor, stupid scientists have a ton more reading to get through.
