Readers of this website helped mightily to get 55,000 people to sign on to wexlerwantshearings.com, the site Rep. Robert Wexler (D-FL) set up on Friday to elicit public support for his call, made jointly with Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) and Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), for the House Judiciary Committee to begin immediate hearings on Rep. Dennis Kucinich's bill (H Res 799) for the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney.
UPDATE! This is working. Since I filed this story in mid-afternoon, the number of signers has jumped by 10,000 to 90,000. We can break 100,000 tonight.
Although this dramatic development in the impeachment movement of having three senior members of the House Judiciary Committee join in calling for hearings has still not been reported by any mainstream news organization, by early this afternoon, the number of signers on the website had grown to 80,000. And people are adding their names at a rate of almost one per second.
We have a good chance to drive this number up over 100,000 today, if people will press their friends and relatives to go to the site and sign on.
There is also word that other members of the Judiciary Committee--perhaps as many as six or more--are considering adding their names to the Wexler-Gutierrez-Baldwin call. If that happens, and if the petition grows beyond 100,000 names, it is hard do see how House Speaker Nancy Pelosi can continue her anti-democratic position of keeping a lid on impeachment.
It is also time to start calling your own local member of Congress. Demand that he or she sign on to the Wexler-Gutierrez-Baldwin call for action, and if they won't, then demand to know why they won't. Use Wexler's arguments against them, and remind them about this petition, with its 80,000+ names.
So get to work people. We have an impeachment to get on the table!

Easy. She just DOES. Who is going to stop her? 100,000 online petition signers? Unlikely.

as easy as commenting here, and don't you think signing is still overall the right thing to do rather than not signing?
I'm not a US citizen. I can't sign. But I'm interested to see if a 100 thousand can be reached and I'm interested in seeing if the main stream media will report it, or what they would say to questions about why they aren't reporting, if and when they are asked.

A month or so ago, it was reported that Nancy Pelosi had said that if she received 10,000 handwritten letters asking for impeachment she would initiate proceedings. There may have been a deadline on this offer, probably now passed.
As soon as I heard this, I sat down with pen and ink and wrote my own contribution to the cause. Has anyone heard how many letters she received? It's hard for me to believe it was less than 10,000.

it also. It is possible someone is hacking the site and reducing the numbers. OR it is possible that the Wexler people themselves are first counting new signatures, but then throwing them out if they turn out to be obviously bogus.
I've started online petitions before, and people try to mess up the petition by signing things like "Daffy Duck" or "Bin Laden".
I don't know which is happening here.

I agree, the numbers aren't moving like they were. Maybe someone should have the site checked..... but more likely NSA or one of Bush's lackeys are fixing the count. They had allot of practice over the past couple of elections...They know how to do it.

If these two Imbeciles are not Impeached, before leaving office then the next president i hope it will be Dennis if not then may be O'bama or Edwards will bring congressional investigations and charges against these two TYRANTS. They must face criminal charges, and war crimes. they deserve jail time. IN FACT LOCK THEM UP IN A DUNGON. FOR 40 YEARS. AND HARD LABOR.

Sorry to say this, but 80,000 signatures won't even guarantee that a third party candidate could be on the BALLOT in PA... you think that 80,000 means something?
Well, good luck with your efforts... I am sure they will amount to the same thing as electing Democrats into DC in 2006 did...

But there's no harm in trying and it only takes a minute or two.
The Impeachment Movement is gathering momentum at least. The signatures may very well exceed anyone's expectations and I hope they will continue to be impressive whether or not they wind up playing a factor at all in the grand scheme of things! Progress is being made... and that's with no thanks to be given to naysayers and others like yourself.
Cheers,
Bid

What did the French do with traitors? I think the phrase was, "Off with their heads!" We have a whole administration of traitors who deserve that fate. It works for me!
