Keep your eye on the ball- impeachment now!

The real war on terror is being fought by We the People against the terrorists who have hijacked our government. The hijackers, who fly the Skull and Bones of their Yale fraternity, have been striving to terrorize us with 9-11, to drive us into bankruptcy, to befuddle our minds with their lies and hypocrisy, and to prepare us for slavery under their fascist regime, which is now legally in place.

The hijackers have corrupted the Congress that the Constitution mandates to represent our interests, the interests of We the People. The hijackers have made a mockery of our Constitution, and somehow have rendered even the new Democratic Congress impotent to stop them.

Since the election of November '06, when We the People turned out to register our disapproval of Bush, despite all the usual dirty tricks from his henchpeople in the GOP,- since the election, Bush has become steadily more aggressive. He evidently believes that a good offense is the best defense.

He has thumbed his nose at We the People and our election, with his announcement that he'll open our mail at will, send more troops to Iraq over our strenuous objections, replace Federal Prosecuting Attorneys who are supposed to catch criminals for We the People with his own loyal mobsters, cut our public services and our safety net for the poor to fund his military adventures, etc., etc.

Above all, Bush is threatening all of us with all-out nuclear war by escalating the threat against Iran, which is closely allied with two major nuclear powers- China and Russia. By intimating that he feels free to use "mininukes" and "bunkerbusters" against a non-nuclear power, he is playing nuclear chicken with all life on the planet. Use of nuclear weapons against Iran would surely invite nuclear retaliation against the US.

We the People are holding our own. We've kept the hijackers from achieving their goal of enslaving us up to now, through a combination of courage, truth-telling, and the heaven-sent internet. Although the hijackers have all the military might, control the media, and are ruthless against their enemies, the determined army of We the People, with our small salaries and keyboards and telephones have kept the worst from happening, so far.

We now need to confront the ugly fact that our new Congress, the one We the People elected to stop the hijackers, is doing nothing of the sort. Although a few, like Russ Feingold and Ted Kennedy, Barbara Lee and Maxine Waters, are speaking out in various ways, the Democratic leadership will allow whatever funding Bush asks for his military aggressions.

Rather than restore habeas corpus and the Bill of Rights, Pelosi's priority has been to strengthen the tools of fascism by "carrying out the recommendations of the 9-11 (coverup) Commission". HR 1 orders more surveillance and tracking of Americans.

Despite the incredible revelations at the Libby trial that both Bush and Cheney were prime movers in the outing of Valerie Plame, Congress has not ordered an investigation. Since Plame headed up an international network of undercover agents, whose job it was to interdict WMDs from falling into the hands of terrorists, outing her amounts to treason.

What could give more aid and comfort to terrorists that getting rid of the key network that was keeping them from obtaining WMDs? And how many loyal CIA operatives were killed as a direct result of revealing Plame's identity? This makes Bush and Cheney guilty of murder as well. Treason and murder, surely high crimes under the Constitution. Why is there no bill of impeachment on the floor of the 110th Congress?

The hijackers well know how vulnerable they are right now. They are using the media to distract We the People from keeping our eye on the ball with a variety of false leads. The ball is in our court, and we need to impeach them all.

The battle over the Iraq "surge" is one false lead. It's a mere skirmish, but is taking up lots of progressive time and energy, and giving "progressives" in Congress a chance to posture and appear as opponents of the hijackers, without having any real effect.

Another diversion is the 2008 presidential circus. We'll be fortunate to make it to the end of 2007 without martial law and fascism- "bird flu" and a FEMA takeover, or war with Iran, or another false flag operation like 9-11. There may well be no election in 2008. We need action NOW, not 2 years from now. Are Obama, Kucinich and the rest aware that they are impeding impeachment by creating media events, or are they merely patsies?

There are lots of issues that need attention- global warming, torture, the media buildup for attacking Iran. Impeachment trumps them all. Get rid of the bad guys, and we can tackle the rest of it. Since Congress won't impeach, they're bad guys too. We the People are on our own.

Let's keep our eye on the ball. The Constitution doesn't tell We the People what to do if Congress fails us, so we need to devise new strategies. They have to be peaceful and legal, because all We the People really have is our righteousness. We should look into recalling Congress, bypassing Congress with our own impeachment hearings, arresting Congress for conspiracy to commit felonies under the RICO act. Or perhaps we can stage a massive sit-in in the halls of Congress, and force our so-called Representatives to impeach, by halting all their other business.

Above all, we have to stay alert and continue to mobilize our energy and resources for this great battle against the evil which has befallen us. The future of our country, the future of life on the planet, is at stake. We the People, having been given sovereignty, self-rule, under our Constitution, have a grave responsibility to the rest of planet, and to posterity.

Probably the primary reason why...

..they are not willing to Impeach is simply due to the ongoing War.

Impeaching a President requires time for the processes, time for hearings, time for statements and counter-statements, doing all of that, the time consumption of the processes on people vital to the action and reaction processes of the War itself, is simply seen as too dangerous a risk to take.

A bit like some of the arguements that were raised when it was being considered/asked if Mr. Clinton should be Prosecuted in a Courtroom for/on a Citizens' complaint, could he still effectively do his job?

Now if he (GWB) were to resign....That they would probably all go for lickety split, as that Solves more problems waaaaay Faster

Anyone got a convincing arguement for that? (Convince Him! GWB)

Probably the primary reason why

Much of the anti-American sentiment in the world at the moment is a direct result of George W Bush's decisions to set aside the rules of law.

With Bush gone impeachment or resignation a lot more trust would come Americas way with respect to whatever leader replaced him provided that the leader was not a neo-con law and treaty shredder.

I am not a US citizen I am an Australian that aspired at one time to immigrate to the US.

I have to say though Robin that it would be far better to impeach Bush than to have him resign because that shows us in the world that want to trust America that you the We the People people, will do the right thing by us who share the planet with you. It shows us that you will hold your elected leaders to account for the promises they make you even if that means impeachment of the president of the united states.

Bush like to say he could walk and chew gum. Well that might have been nearly the limit of HIS multitasking capacity, but the US people should be able to impeach a president and manage other affairs including armed conflict or what the heck is the US worth?

Lincoln, the first Republican went to an election during a civil war for petes sake. This generation of Americans needs to be able to walk and chew gum. You need to be able to impeach your president AND defend yourselves and do the other things.

We don't need US presidential campaigns to have started this early, why aren't the candidates spending more time upholding their own promises to we the people.

Why is Edwards involving himself in the impeachment charge? Does the US needs him more as a president? Who is he serving with that philosophy if so?

how to stop the "war"? Impeach Bush and Cheney

There never was a war in Iraq. Bush and Cheney invaded another sovereign nation that was no threat to the US, on the basis of deliberate lies. Since then they have been fomenting civil war to justify occupying Iraq. The main purpose is to safeguard the oil for American corporations. Second, to provide a base for other military adventures in the Middle East. Third, to provide a huge bonanza for the Bush and Cheney family corporations, Carlyle and Halliburton, which have gotten many no-bid contracts, and mostly don't even bother to do the work, just put our hard earned money in their pockets.

Bush and Cheney have already demonstrated that they will escalate the "war". The only way to stop them is to get them out of office. PERIOD.

Your sentence defines the problem space nicely

"Bush and Cheney invaded another sovereign nation that was no threat to the US, on the basis of deliberate lies."

Carol if *you* could *prove* that in a court of law Bush and Cheney would be impeachable, and I would help you do it. (Key words in what you have said is "deliberate" and "lies".) I think it is beyond argument that a sovereign nation (Iraq) was illegally invaded and that the decider gave the order to do that. It might be arguable that Cheney was not responsible for giving the order to invade and to hoist him on the same patard you'd have to show (with documents that could stand up in court - that would have that sort of evidentiary value I mean) that it was a conspiracy so lets focus on Bush for the moment. If you know how in practice to get Bush its a relatively trivial matter politically to get Cheney as well with a double impeachment provided only that Cheney actually deserves it.

What I am saying is that if you personally had the capacity and the documentation to prove what you have asserted in that single sentence beyond reasonable doubt then you personally would have all that you need to begin to pull together others to communicate and aggitate and make the political process work. But communication matters and you have to be able to back up what you say.

In fairness to Bush though Carol (I do not want to bear false witness against Bush and accuse him of malice if he is merely incompetent - malice (coupled with his breaches of international and US law) IS *definately*grounds for impeachment given the other givens but incompetence or sloppiness is NOT his fault). I'm playing devils advocate a bit not to discourage you but to hone your blade.

Re Keep your eye on the ball

I like your style in this article Carol.

I'm an Australian that wants to see Bush impeached because I think that there is a prima facie case for it (ie. that he knowingly recklessly set broke his presidential oath of office with respect to defending the constitution of the united states and its laws (including treaties) to the best of his ability).

However that said Carol the case isn't being particularly clearly articulated in my view and I suspect that that may be becayse of a couple of factors. First most activists that are motivated by conscience and principle also have other things to do and when some relief is gained -say like when a rogue president becomes a lame duck, then we start to want to ease off and pay attention to other things that seem more urgent if not more important.

Not being a US citizen, the national interest of the USA is not my highest priority. But the upholding of the rule of law is. We other people that share the world with you the people need you to do the right thing by yourselves and us and to hold your presidents to account.

I would like to help you help us but I need to be helped with enabling tools. Rhetoric of the sort that you are producing is important to garner support and keep the message alive. Its important to keep they eye on the board. The world and the US are not served by US citizens becoming too forgiving of the trespasses of your presidents against people other than themselves.

If I was defending Bush against the strongest charge that can be made on him I would be defending him on the grounds of his doing "his best" paraphrasing words from the presidential oath, but that his best was just not good enough.

As a non-US citizen I am willing to write/email congress and senators of both parties expressing my concerns re the transgressions of President Bush against internation law but I have to use my shots sparingly.

I actually think that the best way to get impeachment on the table is for discoveries to be made by committees like those run by John Convers, my fear is that John Convers will not have the urgency to produce those discoveries quickly enough for the purposes of impeachment but will rather proceed at a rate that will keep the President under pressure and favour the Democrats in the lead up to the elections.

I don't mind the Dems politicking but I do mind that Bush is not held accountable or is given a free pass. I mind because that sends the wrong message to the next US president a message that they can disregard the US obligations on treaties and suspend habeus corpus with respect to foreigner and the voters won't hold them to their oath.
