A few minutes in front of the tube listening to the republican propaganda channel that is Fox News leaves me scratching my head.
How did the christian right become such a powerful political force?
Then I remember. It was because of a blowjob.
Americans want so desperately to believe in the benign patriarchal figure that will protect and save them, that a moral indiscretion on the part of their president is enough to galvanize an entire political movement.
Guys like Karl Rove recognized this, and so an agenda was created to get all those frightened, disaffected folks out to the polls.
And my oh my, hasn't it worked like a charm. Twice!
So here we are now 6 years into what history will likely regard as the most disgraceful leadersip our country has ever endured (and that is saying something), and what with the poll numbers going down faster than a priest at a cub scout meeting, they trot out the gay marriage thing again!
Can they possibly be serious? Is it possible this could work again? Even I have trouble believing that the christian right is in this deep a trance.
So the message to my christian brothers and sisters is this:
Grab a hold of the best and most fundamental concept upon which christianity was founded, and forgive yourselves. They told you what you wanted to hear, and you believed them. It's okay.
They told you they would appoint judges who would protect the lives of the unborn, and then started a war for profit and power, sacrificng thousands of the already born, and when they told you it was to free the Iraqi people, you believed them. It's okay.
They hooked you with gay marriage, tax cuts for the wealthy, and the guys preaching in your churches backed their play every step of the way, and you believed them too. It's okay.
I know that now it is obvious to you that you have been snookered. They didn't outfox you, They FOXED you.
Belief is the most powerful force in the universe. As we believe, so shall it be done unto us. A timeless message to remind us of the power that is within US.
