Tell A Friend

February 6, 2008

It is Super Tuesday in America. The illusion of course is that we the people are voting for candidates we have chosen somehow. The unfortunate truth is that the machine has chosen the four candidates that remain and do not truly care which of the four actually wins. They may have their preference, but the four left are all pretty much bought and owned already. That said, it is important to analyze what is left and who would be the better machine candidate. Now that the silly cries of “Kucinich” have faded into the woodwork, only reality is left. Short of an independent Ron Paul candidacy, it is time to decide who is truly the lesser of two evils in the democratic race.

I dismiss the GOP because their candidates are simply not embraceable. John McCain lost whatever credibility he had early in the first Bush administration when he sold out for him after the horrendous push-polling Bush did to McCain in South Carolina during the primary fight. The John McCain of today no longer resembles the heroic “maverick” from 2000. Instead he often sounds like an angry old man, who is barely embraced by his own party. He talks about out of control spending after he has spent with Congress for the past seven years. He brags about the surge working, something that will haunt him in the general election. He brags about being a foot soldier in the Reagan revolution, which will haunt him in the general election. There is footage of him mockingly singing about bombing Iran and his quote about not caring if we are in Iraq for another 100 years. The only thing he has to run on is his war hero status but he just doesn’t seem like the guy you want at the button. His primary opponent is Mitt Romney, who is less electable. The pure definition of flip-flopper, Romney is beyond a political chameleon, he is simply a liar and an empty suit. He changes his opinion to suit who he is speaking to. These facts will down him in the general election, should he somehow get there.

That said, it is not impossible for the GOP to win the general election. The Democratic Party has delivered defeat from the jaws of victory before; heck they just did it in 2004! There is also the Diebold factor, which can still deliver 4-5% of crucial swing states votes because the dems have done little to correct the voting theft that still exists in this country. The other factor that could help the GOP continue to blow the world up for another four years is who their opponent is. In 2004 the Democratic Party bypassed far more electable candidates such as John Edwards and allowed the media to torpedo Howard Dean and eventually settled on a truly blah John Kerry. Now, I know that Kerry actually won but to not be able to overcome the voter fraud after four years of the worst presidency ever speaks volumes to the ineptness of Kerry and the refusal of the party to challenge the results. With all of this as the backdrop, we must realize that choosing the democratic candidate is a critical part of who will win in November.

It was a year ago that I wrote an article called “The Hillary Illusion”, which can be found here:

http://www.opednews.com/articles/opedne_anthony__070210_the_hillary_illusion.htm

The basic premise was that Hillary is simply not electable. She was being pimped hard by many factions on the right, which I surmised was because they actually want Hillary as the democratic candidate. They want her for two reasons. First, should she win, they knew that she is basically Bush Lite and clearly the most war-hawkish democrat running. Secondly, they know how flawed she is as a candidate and want to run against her because she is so unelectable. One year has passed and nothing has essentially changed. Hillary remains an illusion and it is too important an election to trust to an unelectable candidate.

While there is precious little “progressive” about Obama, he clearly has to be considered more progressive than Hillary. Clinton has tried desperately to paint herself as “ready on day one”, inferring somehow that Obama is less prepared. Hogwash. What has prepared Clinton for day one? Voting wrong on the war? This nonsense needs to be dismissed out of hand. Both candidates are ready to lead on day one. Both will be far superior to who has been leading for the past seven years! The most important issue for primary voters on the democratic side this season is not who is ready, but who is more electable, PERIOD. On that issue the answer has to be a resounding OBAMA. Here are the real reasons we need to remember as we decide on the democratic candidate.

Hillary is not electable because of her war-hawk stance. The number one issue in November will be the war. America has loudly stated that they want us out of Iraq. There is little doubt about it. The GOP is locked into their pro-war position and have been driven there brilliantly by the democrats. Assuming McCain is the GOP man, he will get buried by a democratic candidate that is anti-war. Unfortunately for Hillary, she voted for the war. Her attempts to wiggle out of that vote have only served to make her more vulnerable. She cannot escape that vote and it will rob the democrats in November of an important weapon they need to wield. Clinton also did not vote for the Levin amendment and her answer in the last debate as to why, were debunked by the media as nothing short of a lie. Only Obama can talk the talk of anti-war. Only Obama can run as a polar opposite to McCain on the single most important issue this November. If the candidate is Hillary, then the democrats essentially throw away the war as a topic. Hillary would be stuck arguing about the surge and the management of the war where Obama could sidestep anything about the surge by correctly arguing against the decision to go to war, which America wholeheartedly agrees with.

Lastly, Hillary is not electable because of who she is. Simply said, Hillary is one of the most polarizing figures in America today. Most people will either like her or hate her. This presents several problems for the democrats. First of all, there is a lot of apathy in this country on the GOP side. The neocon abduction of the party is not lost on true republicans. The essential Christian vote will be equally apathetic after seven years of being lied to by George Bush. Quite frankly, you will see record turnout on the democratic and independent sides and lower turnout on the GOP side. UNLESS, the democratic candidate is Hillary. There will be plenty of GOP voters who would stay home in November but could be convinced to come to the polls to vote AGAINST Hillary. The hate factor cannot be overlooked folks. There are a lot of people who simply cannot stand Hillary Clinton. They would relish the chance to vote against her. That hate would not exist against Obama. Secondly, Hillary provides too much material for the GOP to attack. Besides the war vote, they can go back and dredge up a lot of the anti-Clinton sentiment from the 1990s. They can talk about her “socialized medicine” attempts and label it “Hillary-Care.” You will hear the flip-flopper nonsense again. You will see Hillary portrayed correctly as just another Washington insider. Granted Obama may be in Congress, but he is still new. He is still fresh. He is charismatic. His intellect will comfort people unlike Kerry’s, who intellect made him appear snooty. There is little the GOP can use to attack Obama because he has not been around long enough. Sure they will attack his experience but LET THEM. They will play it up all on the military side and the country has already decided they want out of the wars. As long as that is what the talking points are for the GOP, they cannot win. Obama-McCain would be a brilliant young voice, speaking change for all America, against the crusty old politician, who still is pushing for war. Hillary-McCain would be one calculated political voice against another and war would be virtually off the table. It really does not even appear close. Lastly, 99% of people have made their minds up on Hillary Clinton. There would be virtually nothing she could say between now and November that will radically change anyone’s mind. Obama on the other hand could sway independents who have not had enough of a chance to hear what he has to say. Do not underestimate this. Once the primaries are over, we will have an election season where the democratic candidate has to revitalize the electorate and inspire them to vote. Everyone already knows all about Hillary (and McCain for that matter) but Obama could sway a lot of hearts and minds before November.

As I stated last year, Hillary Clinton is an illusion as a candidate. The GOP is salivating at the opportunity to have John McCain, decorated war hero, run against a woman that 48% of the electorate already cannot stand. Her negative numbers are staggering folks. Sure a lot of people like her, but a lot also cannot stand her and there are very few who have not already made their minds up. The GOP does not want to spend the election season debating whether we should have gone to war. They would rather debate if the surge is working. With Hillary you would have the Democratic Party arguing the surge and the administration of the war with a man who spent years as a prisoner of war. With Obama, you would be able to argue that we never should have been in war to begin with. With Hillary you run the risk of negatively inspiring the apathetic GOP electorate. Do you think that the GOP wants to come out en masse to vote for John McCain? He is already being brutalized by some of the top GOP media mouthpieces such as Rush “Pills” Limbaugh. He is viewed as not being conservative enough. But those same people who might stay home will gladly come out to vote AGAINST Hillary. There is too much at stake this year to trust the election to such a flawed candidate.

It says  it all, what I preached all along: it was a deal. Demparty is to deliver the defeat.  McCain will be President. Hillary is unelectable but so is Obama, sorry.  I am through with this.  It is good that people like Anthony understand that we are being had but  it does not matter.  It  is done.

Democrats Seem Stuffed.

It's an irony, the two choices emerging from the Democrat ranks: the wife of a suspect ex-President and a Black American. Nothing could split the voting public more.

The Republicans, who are carrying the worst President America has ever produced, must be laughing.

How did it get to this?

Dems to be Hoisted on Hillary's Petard

Truthfully this has been telegraphed for years, why do you really think that none of the Dems ever bothered to take on the worst abuses of the Bushreich while they were implementing the fascist infrastructure of the extreme right. The Clinton restoration had to have no opposition from within the party lest the Queen's limelight be intruded upon. Obama is a ringer, he is only there to make it look legit but the Clintons will be the nominees come hell or high water.

Now it gets interesting because Manchurian McCain has some degree of crossover appeal to independents and the Clintonistas have triangulated themselves out of favor with the Democratic party antiwar base and their thinly veiled racism will also cost them dearly as far as black voters go.

Now ordinarily the 'renegade' McCain would be enough to keep enough of the alienated Raptureheads and rubber fetus crowd at home during election day but the allure of the hated she-devil Hillary Clinton will be a huge motivating factor to bring them all out in force goosestepping to the polls.

Conversely, the antiwar base and the pro labor, anti globalist voters who would normally vote Democrat will stay home or vote libertarian or green, I can't tell you how many traditional progressives/liberals who I know loathe the sense of entitlement and inevitably that has heralded our queen in waiting along with her globalist hubby and will not vote for her under any conceivable circumstances....myself included.

Now here is the good part, McCain landslides Rodham-Clinton and the resulting drag down on turnout swings the election to the GOP who then regain both houses of congress. Game over? Not at all, let the economic collapse happen on their next watch, after all it has being being set up to collapse on a Democratic administration that seemed to be a certainty before the Reid-Hoyer-Pelosi triad reneged on every promise that they made to hold the war criminals accountable and end the wars.

And the most important thing is that this would result in the eradication of the cancer that is the DLC as a legitimate force giving way to a far more liberal shift than ever could be expected to occur by installing yet more corporatist Dems that will continue to act as a firewall for the looters and blood barters.

Of course what will be left after two more years of total GOP rule is questionable but could it really be any worse than what the Bush-Rove-Cheney Axis of Evil has already visited upon us.

Once the parasite DLC has been slain then the party itself which has acted as the host will be able to return to health, embrace liberalism and economic fairness, reign in the war machine and banish movement conservatism from this country for the remainder of the lives of everybody reading this now.

Interesting isn't it?

Just my two cents

I agree with most of this analysis, but would caution that

you're probably giving Obama more credit than he deserves. True, you acknowledged yourself that "... there is precious little 'progressive' about Obama." So you clearly understand this problem about him.

But you still held out such alluring possibilities as "With Obama, you would be able to argue that we never should have been in war to begin with....Obama could sidestep anything about the surge by correctly arguing against the decision to go to war, which America wholeheartedly agrees with...."

I don't think we'll be seeing any such thing from Obama (though I agree it would be immensely popular -- a sure-fire winning position -- if he did it). What we will probably see, if he's the nominee, is that he'll pick as a running mate someone with strong national-security and/or military credentials. His game will not be disowning the war or being harshly critical of it. Rather, it will be to try to hint subtly to the public that he's "against" the war, without committing himself to any specific war-ending actions. If he's elected, he will do nothing to end the war, or to cut "defense" spending. He will simply try to put another face on things -- such as withdrawing troops to bases, or to Kuwait, or other measures that don't much alter the basic military committment. He knows perfectly well that corporate America wants the oil, and he's not about to challenge them on this crucial matter.

I agree with most of what you said about Hillary, except that I don't believe she would lose to McCain. The corporate money is flowing strongly in favor of the Democrats. I think either of the two would probably win -- though I doubt any good will come of it, in either case. Hillary is practically a neo-con herself (Ann Coulter's endorsement of her over McCain should surprise no one.) Obama is a far more attractive figure, but ironically, the political figure he most reminds me of is the Bill Clinton of 1992. At the time, that B. Clinton succeeding in convincing millions of voters that he was a progressive "change" candidate. What a sad (but instructive) joke that turned out to be!

Obama is not the ANSWER

Obama Is NOT the Answer
Even if Obama did become President, he would still have the same issues we have today that he refuses to fix. That being his refusal to support impeachment, his refusal to get the truth on 911, his refusal to end the War in Iraq.
He doesn't want to have tit for tat anamosity in his coronation walk up Pennsylvania Ave. But I say what good is it?
His victory will look as being that Americans have stamped out racism by voting for a black President, while the majority of Congress and the Senate are only 43 black or African-Americans serving in the 110th Congress out of 435 members, while only himself being the only black US Senator of 100 members?
This is quite astonishing when there are so few Black Americans serving in Government today!  And so the election is becoming a test to America's resolve in conquering racism, by voting for a Black President? And if that is the case, isn't that itself racism? If we can't elect more black Congress members and more than 1 Black Senator, how does that amount to anything of concern to the real problems in racism verses the real other issues in front of us.
How does racism come before ending the war, investigating 911, and bringing justice to the War crimes of Bush and Cheney through the process of impeachment?
He wrongly believes:
*Paying more at Wal-Mart is worth it for having US jobs. Yet he doesn't like China, where all the goods come from to Walmart: he says:
Europe & Japan are allies, but China is a competitor, Insist on labor and human rights standards for China trade. Bring China to the mat for the currency barb.
*Grow size of military to maintain rotation schedules
*Voted YES on implementing the 9/11 Commission report
*Voted YES on reauthorizing the PATRIOT Act
*Voted YES on $47B for military by repealing capital gains tax cut
*Hopes to remove all troops from Iraq by 2013, but no pledge.
"He's a flip flopper"
*Invading Iraq was a bad strategic blunder, but says:
*Military action in Pakistan if we have actionable intel
*FactCheck: Yes, Obama said invade Pakistan to get al Qaeda
*Iran with nuclear weapons is a profound security threat
*Explore nuclear power as part of alternative energy mix, which also means supporting the Depleted Uranium Industry, yet denies Iran the same.
*Extend welfare and Medicaid to illegal immigrants
*Voted YES on allowing illegal aliens to participate in Social Security
*Real estate deal with felon was "boneheaded" but ethical
*Ok to expose 6-year-olds to gay couples; they know already
yet says: All kids should learn about sexual abuse.
Whatever his ambitions he is going no where until this Iraq War is ended and we are out of Iraq, and Afghanistan.  His anti impeachment stance is indicative of his War theme, which is nothing more than a Black Bush in the White House. I don't think Americans want another Colin Powell rerun.
We can go on about our choices toward awarding the office to a Black verses a woman, but wouldn't it solve the problem if we all voted for Oprah?
We are talking about a monumental realization that Obama an unchartered rookie 3 year Senator with no political establishment is going to step in after a major attack on the USA, that killed thousands of Americans, with his fresh administration that even lacks people support in Congress and the Senate and feel safe about the direction and attitude of the nation?
We have Hillary who does have experience since being with her husband for the 2 terms they served, and that institution is still intact waiting to be primed and retuned for the shift.
I think if we are to have a change of President it would make more sense at this time for Hillary. Now I want to be clear that Hillary has yet to come out in support of Impeachment either, and shows more of a willingness to end war, than Obama. Hillary does not mention invading Pakistan, and I would think she would not.
*Absolutely oppose the war in Iraq. (Oct 2007)
*Bring out as many combat troops as quickly as possible. (Oct 2007) *Goal to remove all troops from Iraq by 2013, but no pledge If Bush doesn't end Iraq war, when I'm president, I will. (Mar 2007)
*Require Bush to redeploy or seek additional authority Cap troops in Iraq and no more blank check for war. (Feb 2007)
*Cut off funds for Iraqi use, but not for troops. (Jan 2007)
*Phased redeployment out of Iraq, beginning immediately. (Oct 2006) *Agrees with Newt Gingrich that Iraq policy is a mess.
In fact I am ashamed of both for not being more open to the people in countering  the lies and using Impeachment to correct the injustices. They both ignore the thousands of lost lives of innocent Iraqis, and I would think if we brought justice to that it would heal Iraq much quicker, and give Iraq the justice it needs at this time in seeing that America is a nation of Laws. This would change the entire attitude of the Middle East, and I even think would change the terrorist activites of Hamas and the Israeli Palestinian issues.
When we ignore the rule of law, and continue on the war path we drain ourselves and lose the influence we so try to acquire.
Myself I suffer greatly here in China, because the Chinese people really look down on America because of the War. Americans can not really be themselves always looking over my shoulder to why this didn't happen, or someone is out to stop my ambitions toward success. It is really terrible. Here I did not support War, so I leave the US because the US really does not respect freedom of Religion, a religion that forbids war.
They force people to pay taxes against religious values. And yet the very American Institution that supports the separation of Church and State think nothing about it in concern to Israels Religious State. It's highly hypocritical.
Now I face a dilimmena in which I have no renewal to my contract here because of the non-confidence and I am left without a job, having a wife and 2 children to support, and no house to live in. I am looking more and more to climbing a tall building to jump off the world because of this unseemingly unjust mess. There is too much pressure. I am at wits end, and left believing that ......dead is somehow better?
In fact many of these issues I think is why China keeps the unchanged currency locked, because making China part of the lawlessness in America is something they don't want to do in the eyes of the world.
Can you imagine if they increased the yuan value to promote US trade?
It would give more money for Bush and the war effort. They don't support war, and that's why we have this trade and currency dispute.
Granted the China government supports the US while the US allows trade from China, but they certainly do not accept the injustices of the Bush Administration and the idea that the US can simply ignore the unjust War in Iraq. So all the blaming of China from the US, needs to be retracted and the US bring justice to their own situation. This means Impeachment and its success.
I know once the war is ended, and justice is brought to the thousands of victims in Iraq;  better relations will come, and trade with America will be of utmost concern. They will make China currency more in line to American and vice a versa.
So the issue is bringing justice. Barack is clearly opposed, in which I have his letter of non support to impeachment, and Hillary has yet made a committment, although I feel she would be more inclined to favor impeachment since the fiasco that happened to her husband. The bet is she would favor impeachment. If not...we are in for a long grueling unhappy state of affairs of the same neglection of Justice for the innocent.
Obama is not the Answer, and with his reluctance to protect the rights of the innocent victims in Iraq, really proves how discriminatory and racist he is. If it's not about Race Barack, then are you in this campaign only for yourself or for others who died by the hand of Bush?
Clearly Barak you are pushing a Hypocritical Democratic Agenda.

Lets go slow for you

I am getting very very tired with people who bitch and moan about the current state of affairs or with logical conclusions, yet offer absolutely ZERO alternatives that are based in reality. I am painfully aware that Obama is not the answer, i believe i referred to him as the lesser of four evils. But you come in and bash me for suggesting what has to be obvious unless you are clueless about the current situation???

Look, this 2-party system is the cancer eating away at our country. I have written about it for years. But we are a spoiled and lazy country who wait until election years to start to worry about election problems. This is the deal. There are four people left: McCain, Romney, Hillary and Obama. THAT IS IT!!! Dont blame me for it. Don't speak to me about your saviors like Kucinich who ran back to his party when they refused to back him. Don't tell me about mcKinney, who while brave, has ZERO chance in REALITY.

Thus we have two GOP candidates that are absolutely unacceptable; i hope you would agree with that. That leaves us with two dem choices to run against the GOP. Those two choices are Hillary or Obama; you still with me? This article was outlining why Obama would be better than Hillary, period.

You are talking about 911 truth??? Get a grip about where we are as a country. We cannot get election honesty, let alone 911 truth. Your goals are noble but until you come back to the reality we live in, you will never get any answers to your truths...

Be well.
