The fight of our lives begins this week -- senators are returning to Washington to prepare for hearings on Samuel Alito's nomination to the Supreme Court.
As news stories continue to break about President Bush's authorization of spying on American citizens, senators will choose whether to replace Sandra Day O'Connor with a jurist who has repeatedly sanctioned the abuse of executive power. They will review Samuel Alito's record of consistently favoring powerful entities such as corporations, the government, and law enforcement over individual rights. And they will learn more about Samuel Alito's career as a judicial activist working to roll back civil rights, reproductive rights, environmental protections and religious liberty.
We are intensifying our field campaign to defeat Alito, which can only succeed if you step up. Help mobilize our activists around the country by participating in our New York phonebanks!
What: Stop Alito! Phonebank

Where: PFAW NY office
149 Fifth Avenue at 21st Street
7th Floor

When: Thursday, Jan. 5, 6 to 9 PM
and every following Thursday;
and Jan. 10th, 11th, 12th from 10 AM to 4 PM
Please RSVP to Tony Simone at (212) 420-0440 x13 or tsimone@pfaw.org.

There has never been a more important time to get involved to save the Supreme Court-generations of progress could be undone if the Senate votes to confirm Samuel Alito.
We hope you will join our campaign to stop Alito!
