KUCINICH SEEKS CHENEY IMPEACHMENT; AMERICANS TO RALLY NATIONWIDE ON SATURDAY

NEW YORK, N.Y., April 23, 2007 - Following on today's announcement by Rep.
Dennis Kucinich that he will file Articles of Impeachment against
Vice-President Dick Cheney, Americans across the country will take to the
streets on April 28 to call for the impeachment of both Cheney and Bush.
From Miami, Florida to North Pole, Alaska, more than 100 actions are planned
nationwide.

Jacob Park, National Coordinator of the April 28 actions, said "George Bush
and Dick Cheney lied the nation into an illegal war of aggression, are
spying on millions of innocent Americans, and have authorized the use of
torture. The time has come for all Americans—-particularly our
representatives in Congress—-to decide where they stand. To turn a blind eye to
lying, spying, and torture makes a mockery of our most basic values and the
very notion of democracy."

On April 28, a visit by George Bush to Miami will be greeted with a massive
impeachment rally organized by dozens of local groups. At the California
Democratic Convention in San Diego, hundreds of delegates will defy the
party leadership by bringing an impeachment resolution to the floor.
Thousands of Americans will form "human murals" spelling out "IMPEACH!" with
their bodies at Ocean Beach in San Francisco, Coney Island in New York, the
foot of the Washington monument in Washington, D.C., and other locations.
And elsewhere people will spell it out in myriad other ways ranging from
banners drops on freeway overpasses to a skywriting plane over the New
Orleans Jazzfest to a guerrilla impeachment slideshow on the buildings of
New York City.

The coordination of the April 28 nationwide impeachment actions has relied
heavily on new Web 2.0 internet technologies, including ImpeachSpace.com, a
new social network created by the organizers to build a community around the
issue of impeachment.

If it's it going to happen ...

Do it!

This is what I hope will happen. The groundswell of pent up need to see some justice done is palatable and will explode in unison across the political landscape.

Lizardman will have to retire because of health reasons.  Wolf-a-bitch is shamed out, Gonezo gone, "turd-blossom" turd sinks and stinks and the child-king is left to answer all the questions on his own.

It can't happen fast enough. It's long overdue. Do it.

But...

That's all fine and dandy that there's lots of stuff planned for the weekend -but what makes any of you think there's going to be a single fucking ounce of attention thrown your way by what Rob's now calling the LSM???  I'll truly be surprised if any mention is made of Kucinich filing articles...  well, let me take that back -they'll report on it with little smirks and a major hit job to portray him as a laughable oddball or a lone nut longshot presidential hopeful executing a publicity stunt...  it's sad that we can all predict with regular accuracy what the end results almost always play out as.

Kucinich, longshot as he may be, is the only candidate I can honestly say has my respect and (generally speaking) my support for his stands on many issues...  more power to him!!!  He needs it.

Crowbait

I STAND WITH CROWBAIT ON THIS ONE. THE PROBLEM KUCINIC WILL ENCOUNTER IS NO COOPERATION FROM BUSH LOVER PELOSI.

SAN FRANCISO'S 8TH DISTRICT OUGHT TO RECALL HER. SHE, ALLEGEDLY THREATENED CONYERS WITH LOSS OF HIS COMMITTEE IF HE AUTHORED OR SUPPORTED IMPEACHMENT PAPERS AGAINST HER BUSHY-BOY. I WONDER WHO IS BEHIND HER CHICKEN LITTLE ACT ON IMPEACHMENT. I SMELL AN EMANUELL LURKING SOMEWHERE.

WHOMEVER IT IS THAT PROMULGATED THE STRATEGY OF WORRYING ABOUT BACKLASH BEFORE THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION IS AN IDIOT WITH NO KNOWLEDGE OF DEMOGRAPHICSOR THE PULSE OF THE PEOPLE RIGHT NOW. THE LONGER YOU LET THE OPPOSITION DANGLE, THE MORE TIME THEY HAVE TO FIGURE OUT A WAY OUT OF THEIR DILEMMA.

PEOPLE WILL NOT SUPPORT A TWINKIE-PARTY. THE 2006 ELECTIONS WERE NOT ABOUT PEOPLE LOVING THE DEMOCRATS AGAIN, THEY WERE ABOUT HATING BUSH. IT WAS A BACKLASH ELECTION. AND IT WILL TURN AROUND AND BITE THE DEMS IN A HURTFUL PLACE IF THEY PLAY POST 1985-1986 DITKA FOOTBALL-GET A THREE POINT LEAD AND PLAY DEFENSE AND THEN LOSE. PLAYING IT CAUTIOUS IS A SELF FULFILLING PROPHECY. FEAR OF LOSING RESULTS IN… LOSING, WHAT ELSE?

Dana PicoEditor of Common Sense Political Thought, mostly Republican (but not always), mostly conservative (but again, not always), always interesting.

OK, people, let's get real!

Back in 1998, we good Republicans started a partisan impeachment of President Clinton, and where did it get us?  We did impeach him, but the Senate refused to remove him from office -- which even most of us Republicans knew would be the result.

But we also lost seats in both the 1998 and 2000 elections, and only won the White House by virtue of the wisdom of the Framers, who set up the Electoral College.  While there were some Republicans who said that there was value in even a failed impeachment, because "impeached" and "Bill Clinton" would be forever linked, Mr Clinton left office at the end of two full terms with a 60% approval rating.

In the 2006 elections, Republicans were somewhat disheartened by the performance of the Republican-controlled Congress, because it spent money so profligately that a drunken sailor would have been embarrassed.  But y'all actually try to impeach either President Bush or Vice President Cheney, and you'll reunite the Republican Party just the way we reunited you in 1998.

And let's face facts: while y'all can vote Articles of Impeachment (that requires only a simple majority in the House), it takes a 2/3 super-majority in the Senate to actually remove an officeholder.  That's 67 votes -- and there are only 51 Democratic senators.  You'd have to be using some seriously bad recreational pharmaceuticals to think that you'll hold all 51 Democrats and pick up 16 Republicans.

BUT ACTUALLY I FAVOR THE SPECIAL PROSECUTOR (OR SEVERAL IF POSSIBLE) OVER IMPEACHMENT FOR THE VERY REASON OF THE 2/3'S NECESSARY.

THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COIN IS THAT CHENEY IS A DEMONIAC, AND THIS COULD DRIVE HIM OVER THE EDGE AND AND MAKE HIM DO SOMETHING EVEN MORE STUPID THAN WHAT HE HAS DONE TO DATE.

HE MIGHT EVEN FROTH AT THE MOUTH AND THEN MAYBE JESUS COULD STOP BY AND EXORCISE HIM AND MAYBE THE REST OF THE WHITE HOUSE PERSONNEL.

Bush-Cheney are war criminals. If the Constitution has any

meaning, they should be impeached, then prosecuted -- just as at Nuremberg. They are as guilty as the German High Command of initiating wars of aggression, not to mention many violations of the Constitution & long-accepted provisions of international law.

It's completely wrongheaded to view this as either a partisan matter, or as horse-race politics ("only 51 Dem votes, blah blah blah"). There have NEVER been criminals like Bush-Cheney-Rice-Rumsfeld-Wolfowitz-Perle-Gonzo in high office in this country, and the effort to rid ourselves of these lying gangsters should be supported by Republicans who seriously care about the Constitution.

The effort to impeach should not be based on a calculation of whether or not it will succeed. It may succeed, and it may not succeed. But it must be attempted, if the US is to remain a constitutional republic. There is also much reason to believe that once the process gets underway (granted, traitors like Pelosi may not allow it to get that far), that the investigations will bring to light such overwhelming evidence of serious wrongdoing, that the prospects of a successful impeachment may improve, as the process develops. That's what happened during Watergate. The process may well develop a momentum & life of its own, if it's permitted to get any kind of fair beginning.

Been around the block a few times.
Blue PilgrimBeen around the block a few times.

two big reasons

First. An impeachment proceeding is an investigation, and helps get the truth exposed -- something desperately needed.

Second. Speaking up when you see something wrong being done may not stop it from happening, but it may get in the way of other wrongs being committed and help set the standards aright, but it also defines who youe are and what you stand for. NOT speaking also defines who one is: Pelosi, Reid, and the rest of the chicken-poops are out of the closet as fascists at heart, and don't think think we the people won't remember that. Kucinich is a real human being, courageous, smart, and honest (and he has been shown to be right in all he has said about Iraq and the corruption of the government). You do what is right because it IS right -- that's what true morality is about.

Integrity.

Do you always make your decisions based upon a pre-existing guaranty of success or do you have the integrity to do what is right?

Initiate the investigations, impeach if there is reason to suspect, and convict and remove from office if found guilty.

Are we really going to debate this based upon its chances for success?

Our corporate owned Republican media has ignored Kucinich up to this point, but now he has done something they can’t ignore, so now they will denigrate, belittle and attack him like rabid dogs. Our ruling elite despises and fears honest politicians above all things with the exception of egalitarianism.. Both are a threat to their monopoly of wealth and power in America.

Cheney Impeachment!

We need to impeach both Bush and Cheney at the same time, (or we may end up with the likes of a Ford giving a phony pardon to Nixon).

The House Dems need to decide on their objective and negotiate with at least 16 Senate Reps to end the Bush disaster.

Trees may fall...

But like the old adage says: If there's no one there to see it, does it make a sound?

Very little coverage on most news sites (of course, these are the ones we know we can't trust to report REAL news anyway).

The Dems are way too concerned about 2008 prospects -as ProfPete said...  so much so, that they shrink at the mere thought that there would be any sort of backlash against them for upholding their oathes and what's left of the constitution by initiating investigations into what's already been done by the Bush administration as they thumbed their noses and repeatedly broke the law -even going so far as to admit it and dare somebody to do something!

Why is it that Kucinich is the only one to grow a set, step up, and push the envelope on this?  Have the rest made their deal with the devil?  Where's the harm in holding a fucking investigation?

We ALL know those answers, but damn, how is it that a guy can spend five weeks in a jail cell for an inebriate's indiscretion of pissing in an alley in the middle of the night, rack up a couple thousand in fees and fines in the meantime without ever facing a judge (as guilt is just flat out presumed), then watch as the Vice President of the United States gets off without so much as even a little scrutiny over shooting another shithead in the face?  Merely hypothetical...  But given the gravity of the kinds of obviously much more serious allegations against Bush and Cheney, shouldn't they be treated in the same fashion as the average American citizen suspected of even a misdemeanor?  Don't we deserve to hear the facts?  Shouldn't they want to leap at the chance to provide evidence to the contrary against allegations?

Sorry, for the rant...

Like I said, merely hypothetical.

The Dem's real backlash will come when they're regretting not acting on the impeachment issue when they could have...  Any wonder why everyone's so disgusted by both parties???

A little bit of cold- blooded thinking

I assume Kucinich knows what he is doing: Cheney is well- known for his tantrums and if he hears that he is under the process of impeachment he might get unstable again, this time  quite fatal for him politically.   He is not well and  such pressure, surely  is not helping his health. Not that I  want him to  loose his health- just politically pressure is the most effective tool of all.

In any case, any pressure, even  a minor one delays and detracts the Evil, takes their time and makes them nervous. There is, of course a deal between Bush and Pelosi or rather between the puppetmasters on both sides but they all are dishonest, do not trust each other and as such are still nervous when Kucinish of someone else disturbes the status quo. So, impeachment proceedings against Cheney  are a VERY GOOD THING!

Drag them through the bloody mud of their own making!

This evil Asshole has spilled the equivalent of tankers full of blood, stolen truckloads filled with million dollar bundles of hundred dollar bills, and contaminated the Earth with nuclear waste that will kill, maim, and sicken living creatures for millions of years, while publicly lying to America to keep us fearful of the Other.  Impeachment is too civilized, but it is the proper course for those of us still willing to work within the system to foster incremental changes.

Forget whether it will actually gather 2/3 majority in the Senate.  Force the media to report on it.  Let the details of Cheney's treacherous deceits enter the public record yet again, and many more legislators will be forced to turn on these assholes or face the scorn of voters who still value honesty.  Let it unify those Repugnant Ones who insist on loyalty to the LIARS over honesty, honor, and principled defense of the what virtues remain in our Constitutional Republic.

Optimal

So, given the media's unwillingness to cover any REAL news and their constant downplaying of opposition to the war, protests, Bushie's crimes etc... ,  just how do you force them to report on it?  How many of us does it take to notify advertisers, sign petitions, write letters -you name it?

I'm so sick of signing worthless petitions, sending letters to editors, posting comments on LSM sites and actually believing it'll may a g*ddamned bit of difference that I'm just about completely through with it!  Even if we finally get the LSM to pay attention and actually do their jobs, we have the reality of a business-as-usual-don't-rock-the-boat-we-gotta-win-2008-there'll-be-hell-to-pay-if-we-do-something bunch of ingrates sitting on their hands!

Look back a year and see how much has already happened. Investigations, indictments, subpoenas, resignations... and even a smal number of half decent new members of Congress last November.

It is turning around, but we can't give up now.

THIS WILL HAPPEN.

Oh, folks, come on

we all know how it  is done: persistence and pressure is everything in politics.  Kucinich does it- great, we are all for it.  We have all to  appreciate the effort:  he at least is doing something honest.  The people in power  now are marionettes and the only thing we expect from both sides is to somehow control the extermism. Bush is nuts., Cheney is a vampire- so  someone  pushes and pushes at them. That is a good thing and... very American, whether fortunately or not.    It is good that now we see the push, really. It is also good that  Bush and Cheney  have no  cadres, people who would do anything for  them . Money talks and media will talk  if the puppetmasters tell it to talk. We must not forget that we  ( at least most of us) have no voice but a lot at stake.  Let's face it- if something happens  in the world  and, say gas goes up  to 6 bucks a gallon we  all are ruined.  If there is a  war with Iran and a draft, our chidren are dead.  Let's not forget our immediate interests, please.   Global warming aside, no one will help me, a man of more then 50 if  all my savings plummet. No one  will help anyone. We can  whine about all that all we  want  but  reality bites and the nutty President and Vampire VP are a luxury I cannot afford. I assume  some of the powerful puppetmasters also cannot afford it. That is encouraging.

keep on keepin' on...

We just got a real downer today - denied permit for our A28 event...

Complicated, but not politically motivated to the best of my knowledge.

Progress Towards Impeachment is Going Well

As I've envisioned and predicted it,

1- congressionial investigations would turn up more and more corruption in the Bush Administration.

2- witnesses at lower levels of power, below the whitehouse, will start providing evidence of more and more corruption, making it clearer and clearer that the Whitehouse has been criminal and incompetent

3-Republicans will begin waking up to the realization that if they continue to allow the investigations without doing something, the Republican party will virtually die, becoming a weak minority party, for years to come.

4- There will be no impeachment. A group of republicans-- enough when added to the democrats to pass impeachment-- will take "THE WALK" to the whitehouse to inform Bush and Cheney that they have to go to salvage the future of the Republican party and to save the senators' own necks.

I don't think I've said this before, but I'm going to guess;

5. These republicans will negotiate with the dems to appoint a president and vice president who will definitely NOT run for president-- maybe George Herbert Walker Bush and Bill Clinton.

6-Unfortunately, Bush and Cheney will probably come out of this with pardons.

The current battle over Iraq funding will be a good predictor of how congress will handle impeachment. If the Dems cave on holding to requiring a deadline, then I'd reduce my hopes for eventually removing Cheney and Bush from office.

It will be very interesting to see whether the Democratic candidates will be asked about impeachment as they start debating. If they get asked, Kucinich could shame the others into moving towards supporting it. There's a chance they WILL be asked, because networks sponsoriing the debates may think discussing it will hurt the candidates and we know the "truth" about the "liberal media."

Mostly I agree...

Rob,

I follow you up until the point where ANYONE can convince Bush to step down. His arrogance and hubris doesn't seem to leave room for quitting, failure, admitting error or any other problem with himself.

I am a bit afraid of what he will do when that comes around.

We will see, won't we?

Get Real

Dana, you are right.  We do need to get real.  To many of us, sounds like you are included, love to make the Clinton comparison with Bush.  There is no comparison.  No lie Clinton told brought about the unnecessary blood shed that the Bush/Cheney lies have. No lie Clinton told brought America's respect to its knees in the eyes of the rest of the world.

There is nothing wrong for you and others like you to admit what Bushco has done to America.  We need to all become AMERICANS again and not PARTY MEMBERS.

There is no more WE THE PEOPLE and it is our own fault, not the politicians.  They can go only as far as WE THE PEOPLE allow them.

I do have faith tho that things will change.
