The Minnesota GOP just had a press release in which they rightly point out Rep. Tim Walz's inconsistency on the impeachment issue. They reference an article published on OpEdNews by Impeach for Peace a few days ago revealing one conversation (of two we've had with Rep. Walz) where he has indicated that he would support impeachment if it came to a floor vote. He then failed to support Kucinich's impeachment resolution when it was presented yesterday to the House. Impeach for Peace calls on Walz to respond to this obvious inconsistency and lack of support for the Constitution. Walz took an oath to defend the Constitution from enemies foreign and domestic. Cheney needs to be held to account. Below you'll find the press release as it appeared on the Minnesota GOP's website. Despite Impeach for Peace's non-partisan stance on the issue of accountability and rule-of-law, their press release refers to organizers of Impeach for Peace as being partisan agents of the left. Impeach for Peace objects to this characterization and calls on the GOP to correct this error on their press release.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: WHERE DOES WALZ REALLY STAND ON IMPEACHMENT OF VP?

Walz Votes One Way On House Floor, Yet Reassures Far-Left Fringe He Supports Articles Of Impeachment Against VP

"After masquerading as an 'independent leader,' Tim Walz has been a rubber stamp for national liberals and is now telling the far-left fringe he supports the impeachment of the Vice President. It's time for Walz to stop doing the bidding of the far-left extreme and start representing the mainstream values of southern Minnesotans."

- Ron Carey, Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman

Walz Votes One Way On Impeachment Resolution Against VP On House Floor:

"The Democrats then offered their own motions to send the resolution to committee, effectively killing it, and prevailed on a mostly party-line vote of 218-194, with Walz voting to kill it..." (Edward Felker, "On Impeachment, Kline 'Sides' With Kucinich, Walz Shuns," Post Bulletin Website, Posted November 6, 2007)

Meanwhile... Walz Assures Radical Impeach For Peace Group He Supports Articles Of Impeachment Against VP:

"I also mentioned to him [John Conyers] that I had a conversation with a Minnesota Representative, Tim Walz, who was in exactly that position, representing a traditionally conservative area that had narrowly elected him. In our conversation on impeachment, Rep. Walz had stated that though he wouldn't sign on to H. Res 333, he would support articles of impeachment should they come to the floor. I suggested that this might be a far more widespread stance than he would expect." (Jennifer Umolac, "Rep's Conyers/Ellison/Waters Discuss Impeachment," Impeach For Peace Website, http://impeachforpeace.org/impeach_bush_blog/?p=3923, Posted November 5, 2007)
