Talking about "Socialism."

It's about time for the US citizens who aren't happily nested in the Middle Ages to leave the 19th Century. There are a scant few who have actually read Marx and Engels within their historical context and understand the evolution of a social theory as revolutionary and insightful (and therefore dangerous) as Darwin's biological theory. It's the truth: if Darwin's ideas had been as brutally suppressed in the US as Marx (not for lack of effort), Biotechnology would not exist.

Consider (and then dismiss) the significant portion of the US population who is perfectly satisfied with the authoritarian pyramid pecking order organic stew with "god"- at the top, invertebrates at the bottom, and just below god is the King or "Commander in Chief"- or "Boss"- who gets their authority directly from "god."- Well- they wouldn't be in charge if "god"- did not "will"- them to be, right? All you have to do is obey authority. Turn off brain. End of story. Their paradigm is the "Little Parrot Paradigm"- which goes as follows:

I. Be an obedient slave.
II. Parrot the Dogma
A. Never question anything
B. Help us brutally suppress anyone who does
III. Your Reward is in Heaven.

As it was in the beginning"- is now and ever shall be"- and all that.

But you and I, we've been through that"- and this is not our fate. So let us leave the Little Parrots behind for now and think kindly of them until they swarm to put us in gas chambers because they blame "us"- for disobeying their Paradigm. Meanwhile, who are "we?"- Some of us label ourselves "Progressives"- because we think we have "progressed"- beyond slavery and Dogma. And we don't want to be "liberals"- any more because that's just as nasty as "socialists."-

So while on the subject of completely meaningless labels, what about the interesting group of "Libertarians"- emerging in the US because their former "Conservative"- label associates them with the Parrots who have made a complete pig's-arse out of everything? They made it out of the middle ages, all the way to the cutting-edge of 18th Century thought, "Adam Smith Capitalism."- Now, if they can make the leap between "Wealth of Nations"- and "Capital,"- they'll be on the cutting edge of 19th Century ideas. A century in a sentence is quite an accomplishment.

Good thinking, but there's still a century-and-a-half to go to catch up to where we are NOW"- let alone anticipating the "future."- So to those erstwhile Jeffersonians"- those Ayn Rand radicals"- those loveable Libertarians who champion "Individual Rights"- above all else and scorn the "Collectivists,"- rugged individualists whose fine minds go forth questioning all things"- I propose the following experiment: turn off their electricity and water. That's right"- now the TV won't work and the toilet won't flush. That's right, pal"- you're neck-deep in "collectivism"- every morning when you take a dump"- and you can't even SEE it"- but you'll nose it when it aint there.

"Individual Rights"- will become fairly abstract when freezing in the dark with no place to take a crap. Meanwhile, here's some food for thought"- "I'm just sayin'."-

Soon the Parrots will be on us like The Birds.

Capitalism is make-believe. Crookism is real.

I prefer socialism(s) to socialism.  State socialism is a nightmare where dictators rule a nation on graft.

Mike Folkerth is the author of "The Biggest Lie Ever Believed" and is not your run-of-the-mill author of finance and economics.

The former real estate broker, developer, private real estate fund manager, auctioneer, Alaskan bush pilot, restaurateur, U.S. Navy veteran, heavy equipment operator, taxi cab driver, fishing guide, horse packer and few jobs too embarrassing to mention, writes from experience and plain common sense.

Regardless

of the form of government, the concept that "growth is good" will eventually deplete the world of all natural resources. Regardless of the form of government, human nature will prevail and the bad guys will rule over their flock.

Trying to switch this country to Socialism at this point in time makes about as much sense as making ethanol from our food supply. Marx made one horrendous mistake, he totally ignored the human condition. There are plenty more guys and gals out there like Stalin and Hitler.

Folkerth...

...correct as usual.  The "Social Dominators" will use any kind of claptrap "ideology" to pander to those who actually (think they) HAVE some kind of "ideology," merely so the Social Dominator can get over as usual.  "Growth is good" is a perfect example.  What, are you AGAINST "growth??"  Why- that means you must be in favor of "losing."  Or pro- communist. terrorist. crime... whatever the current boogie may be.

But comparing the move toward "Socialism" (in the US) to the ethenol scam aint quite fair.  For one thing, "Public Ownership" of a few sectors is badly needed...

Beginning with whatever we think is the fucking "government."

Exactly!!! Planning is done to get us through four years at a time. "It was alright when I left."

We operate our long term exisitence on a very short term plan, a plan that allows the the maximum extraction of resources for greatest profit, screw the kids, we brought 'em in, we can take 'em out.

Unchecked capitalism will kill us all given time.

I have a BSc in Computer And Information Science, enjoy riding my little Ninja motorcycle and running a few miles in the park. I volunteer with an animal rescue agency. I'm fiercely independent, stubborn and have decided to spare any woman the trouble of dealing with me long term by remaining a committed single person. More to come later, barring unforeseen circumstances.

Always a good read.

Thanks for writing a good concise article that contains mountains of more truth than a truckload of verbose ideological manifestos, which mainly serve to obfuscate some simple minded greedy agenda. You are liable to get thrown off the island for using such dangerous forbidden terms. You are guilty of no-speak, where concepts are pushed into an intellectual no-trespass zone, cordoned off by the banalization of discourse into predefined thought patterns policed by token labels. All of this was very well predicted by Orwell.

Mondragon Cooperative

No Nation has yet to try what Marx amd Engels wrote about.

Ya, both conservatism and liberalism have gotten a bad name.  There is something good to say about "parts" of both of them.  But the way of America today is to divide and conquer.  Until we start working together, "THEY" will succeed.

(Court cases should not even be on TV.  It is up to a jury to convict, not the general public or newscaster to judge.  If we must be informed, the news paper is a much less harmful way...)

Unions are a very good functioing form of Socialism.  There is even a better way in the Basque region of Northern Spain called Mondragon which is now the 8th largest company in all of Spain.  Unions could work out the details of setting it up here in America in a heartbeat.  It will spread out the wealth in a way that will help US take care of ourselves.

SW Texas ultra-liberal

Heres Johnny !

Being unable to get cable DSL here at the farm I just got a wireless snail card, so here is My two cents. One of the basic ideas of the Marxist model is to spread the populace out geographically. This can prevent many problems, such as corporate ability to strip the people of their substance by media advertising, monopolization of outlets where needed goods and staples are sought and the use of legislation converting law enforcement into enforcers of corporate policy. Concentrations of population facilitate the drug trade, prostitution and gangs. The abandonment of agricultural lands has caused the people to become dependant on the established system of consumerism. When the economic or supply system is disrupted pandemonium will surely break out.

After two weeks here on the farm I am so glad I left the city. Neighbors actually talk here, the air is clean and the beauty of the countryside is food for the soul. I no longer have to chain My belongings down to a tree and there are no drug dealers or junkies. The houses and walls here are not spray painted with graffiti. We currently have irrigation water available at 48 dollars for 600,000 gallons. A fight will soon be inevitable to prevent corporate global powers from taking our water under Agenda 21¨sustainability¨ and related hoaxes. The small farm is a threat to the corporate establishment and our right to use existing wells will surely be threatened as well. My search for non-GMO corn seed is ongoing, almost all the area farmers have been duped into using Monsanto´s adulterated seed, the instrument of their would be worldwide monopoly on agricultural seed.

I am no scholar of political theory, but in the words of Moe Howard "spread out"
