I have serious doubts about Barak Obama's commitment to the struggle of African Americans for equality in white America in 2008.   

There follow pictures of some American faces, taken by Richard Avedon, which record the state of that struggle in 1963. 

It is profoundly to be regretted that today, America has President-elect of African heritage who seems to be, simply, unaware that the struggle is ongoing.
