What good does attending a protest do?
Nationwide Protest Saturday November 15, 2008
I have to do something.
And this gives me something to do with this little "issue" I have developed.
My not going to let it go this time and just slip back into social oblivion "issue".
I have been trying for a week to put it away. I have always been able to do that throughout my entire life. I was always bullied into thinking I had no choice and besides...I do have other stuff to do.
But there it is...it just keeps popping into my consciousness and I get mad all over again. "Who in the hell do they think they are?"
Guess the whole "Yes We Can" Obama thing got something started. Too bad so many who voted for progress with one hand tried to shove us back in the closet with the other. No. Not going to work that way this time.
Seems a lot of us Gay folk are just about fed up with being told who we can and can't marry.
This time it's different for a lot of folks because people from outside the Gay community are getting into the fight on our behalf. They recognize the hypocrisy as the same hypocrisy that has said "no you can't" to women and people of color. We welcome them and applaud their courage to stand with us against hate and prejudice.
Can you hear it LDS, Focus On The Family, Family Research Council and the rest?
Oh, yes...I think you can.
That is the sound of unity and purpose gathering to fight you.
The National Day Of Protest Against Prop 8
(and the rest of you who think you have some right to tell me who I can marry)

I hate to say it..
But you are wasting your energy fighting for gay marriage. It should not matter if you get sanction from the state. Love is love regardless of whether a government recognizes it. You are legitimate, not the government. This country, and the world, is headed toward a one world government (or three warring superstates like in 1984). This Prop 8 is just a distraction for people who might otherwise being resisting the larger evils in the world. And by the way, does anyone see the problem with "democracy" yet? It is tyranny of the majority, implemented and controlled by the minority. Peace. Love. State is enemy of both. No surprise. by Ferdinand (17 articles, 4 quicklinks, 39 diaries, 259 comments) on Friday, Nov 14, 2008 at 9:50:30 AM

Reply: Correct ...
Indeed it is a problem, mainly for those it effects, and seems to be a distraction issue. Personally I couldn't care less what preferences people have when it comes to their choice of whom they wish to be with. The question I would ask anyone that is opposed to gay-marriage is, since it was made legal, in some places for, oh, I don't know year or more, how it effected your life? Did you or your children suddenly "turn gay"? Did your spouse run off with a goat? Any civilized country wouldn't even be talking about this. by Mr M (8 articles, 0 quicklinks, 66 diaries, 2845 comments [654 recommended, 27 rejected]) on Friday, Nov 14, 2008 at 11:04:49 AM

uh huh
oh..I am so sorry civil rights are such a distraction for y'all. and, yeah...while it is a problem for "those" it effects... I tend to see it as a part of the bigger problem. It would also stand to reason that how much a part of the bigger picture is largely determined by one's particular perspective. Perhaps instead of my having to zip it about what is important to me, those who are distracted by it could to do a better job of focusing on what they think is more important instead of passing judgement on something they don't really care about and are not "effected" by. How 'bout that? kim by kgongre (19 articles, 0 quicklinks, 22 diaries, 30 comments) on Friday, Nov 14, 2008 at 11:48:25 AM

Reply: I see your point, Kim
I just see our society heading to a point where we will quickly become more concerned about protecting the lives of ourselves and those we love. Governmental distinctions about whether you are officially married or not will become arbitrary. It just seems crazy to me that people desire legal recognition of their love by a murderous, lying government hell-bent on the destruction of all things good and sacred. I suggest that you don't need to concern yourself with those that are denying your bonds. They can go to hell. Marriage is much more than a legally binding contract. by Ferdinand (17 articles, 4 quicklinks, 39 diaries, 259 comments) on Friday, Nov 14, 2008 at 12:31:52 PM

I hear ya
and I do agree that the whole thing is way messed up, it is a global scam of heretofore unseen proportions and needs to be changed. It also seems a bit unrealistic to think we can just scrap the whole system at once. The system can be redmade, but as a practical matter and at the moment I need the same legal rights and protections afforded any other legally recognized marriage witin that system. Religion aside, as it should absolutely be, it is a civil rights issue unrelated to my sense of self...that is not what this is about to me. I don't need anyones personal approval. I need an unbiased legal status equal to that enjoyed by heterosexual people because it makes a real difference in my real life here and now, within the current system. kim by kgongre (19 articles, 0 quicklinks, 22 diaries, 30 comments) on Friday, Nov 14, 2008 at 1:57:10 PM

It is REALLY SIMPLE....
it was a state wide ballot initiative.. It LOST, DEAL WITH IT! I wrote up how I feel about the entire concept here, just a little while ago, and the reality is simply this... You will be wasting your lives marching for absolutely nothing other than being seen as people whining about the outcome of the vote. Here is a thought. Just live life... Find someone you love and share life with that person.. forget about the terms used, and just carve out administrative rules that enable you to do whatever "married" couples can do... Election is over... it didn't pass
It's like Al Gore all over again...The Public voted against it... get over it.. there is no re-count, Obama was voted into office ... he won the election, Prop 8 was defeated .. It's that simple... why do you think if a few dozen people protest, that Prop 8 will get over turned? It's a waste of time, Live with it, If I need to accept President as my new President, would he be put out of office if I protested? Quit trying to bring the morality down in America, move where it's acceptable. by Don Bybee (0 articles, 0 quicklinks, 0 diaries, 116 comments [2 recommended, 0 rejected]) on Friday, Nov 14, 2008 at 8:50:24 PM

Kim, we're almost there.
People evolve at different paces. Think back, look how ignorant we were to believe woman shouldn't have the right to vote. I'm sure when that changed, there were still people that were not quite bright enough to get it yet, but eventually they rose up to par. It's the same with the laws against inter-racial marriage, the consciousness of society finally rose to realize those laws were not right. People are coming around on this matter too, it's only a matter of time. I'm not sure why it is that the "religious" people are so afraid of this, but they too shall one day see the light. So nice the world would be if we could just learn to love eachother! by Mike Baldwin (0 articles, 0 quicklinks, 1 diaries, 30 comments [15 recommended, 0 rejected]) on Friday, Nov 14, 2008 at 11:21:47 PM

Deep resentment is building over gay militancy.
A growing distain of gay people in general is growing nation wide as people are constantly assaulted with name calling and belittlement from militant gay groups. Example GAY FASCISTS STORM CHURCH on Sunday, November 9, a band of about 30 gays stormed a church in Lansing, Michigan. The group of self-described homosexual anarchists, Bash Back! claims the evangelical church is guilty of “transphobia and homophobia.” The protesters outside the church were beating on buckets, shouting “Jesus was a homo” on a megaphone and carrying an upside-down pink cross. Fire alarms went off inside the church, protesters stormed the pulpit and a huge rainbow-colored flag was unfurled with the inscription, “IT’S OKAY TO BE GAY! BASH BACK!” The church was vandalized, obscenities were shouted and worshippers were confronted. There were no arrests. One reply to this on a blog was; well I guess we need to kick the living crap out of these people. You know bash back. Here is their blog top pic. Here! I hope they try this at a Muslim Mosque, they hang queers. Attacking a church, WOW! Example AntiGayBlacklist.com has posted the names of all donators to Prop 8 and is asking people to not use their services. Here This is almost criminal and certainly sends the message to all that gays are pathetically adolescent and downright mean in there treatment and tolerance of others. Blacklisting is a hate crime and puts there cause in the same dim light as Hollywood during the Mc McCarthy time. Example attacking the Mormon Church over prop 8 funding. People are not stupid. The gay community took money from any and all donors to fight prop 8 and are just crybabies lashing out at all because they lost. The Mormon Church has 5.5 million members in the USA and over 13 million world wide. It is projected to have over 280 million in the next 50 years. The Mormons will never forget or forgive the undeserved attack on its members or its properties by gay fanatics over legal contributions to prop 8. You have made yourselves a powerful enemy indeed. Now watch the money flow against gays after your fit. Example Rosanne Barr gets on her soap box radio show out of LA and informs all that anyone that voted for prop 8 should be sent to a soviet death camp. She also informs blacks that they have a lot of nerve stepping out of line and voting 70 percent for prop 8. Blacks I’m sure just love to have an old white woman dictate what they can and can’t vote for. You’ve just confirmed that voting for prop 8 was the right thing to do after seeing your temper tantrum. Example, forcing indoctrination of elementary school children in Massachusetts Here and telling parents to go to hell if they object. Want parents to hate you and yours just keep this up. I know you will. Example 2008 Up Your Alley Fair in San Francisco Here This does not help your cause. Example 2007 Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco. Here This does not help your cause. As the country watches the gay crybaby show on November 15 around the country you will be growing an enormous amount of animosity for your cause. The bloom is off the rose for Gay rights. by David C Beach (0 articles, 1 quicklinks, 8 diaries, 169 comments) on Saturday, Nov 15, 2008 at 8:10:57 AM
