Et tu, Democratic Party?

The American people have now suffered what must surely be the ultimate betrayal! Those elected to represent and serve their interests in Congress have 'winked and nodded' to Bush's heinous crimes, abuses, usurpations of unconstitutional power, aggressive war and villainy. Democrats in Congress have quashed a move by Dennis Kucinich to impeach the usurper who still occupies the White House.

In a single act of cowardice and betrayal, if not treason, the US congress has 'scuttled' the Articles of Impeachment drawn up and carefully researched by Dennis Kucinich. The US government, therefore, may no longer assert or claim legitimacy. By turning a blind eye to the numerous specific crimes that Kucinich outlined and proved in some 35 Article of Impeachment, the people are left adrift. There is no rule of law!
WASHINGTON - Democrats in the House of Representatives yesterday scuttled a colleague's proposal to impeach President Bush on a wide range of charges, including lying to the American public about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, torturing war captives, and misleading Congress in an attempt to destroy Medicare.

By a 251-166 vote, the House sent the 35-count articles of impeachment to the Judiciary Committee, which is expected to let it die without further action. While the vote technically forces the measure to the committee for consideration, it also means the full House will avoid having to debate and vote on impeaching the 43d president.--

According to Boston. com "no Democrats [sic] voted against the resolution to send the measure to certain death in the Judiciary Committee, but 166 Republicans voted no - a tactic designed to force Democrats to address the measure publicly."

The desires, needs and aspirations of the vast majority of people had long ago been betrayed by the GOP. Now --the Democrats have simply twisted the knife in the wound.

Thomas Jefferson would have had this to say:
That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, - That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security
Clearly --as Dennis Kucinich proved conclusively and persuasively in some 35 Articles of Impeachment --the government of George W. Bush, his enablers, toadies, and the financial support that he enjoys has 'broken the peace' with the American people. The US Constitution is a covenant between the people and those elected to serve them. Bush has broken that covenant, thumbed his nose at it and disdained it, calling the Constitution ' ...just a goddamned piece of paper!" The case against Bush, indeed this government was documented and proven in Kucinich's 35 Articles of Impeachment.

I found many reasons to suspect Bush even while he was campaigning in 1999, when he was promising to be a "compassionate conservative," and to "put an end to partisanship." And my suspicions were confirmed as soon as he was elected and proved that those were false and empty promises. 

I was amazed at many things he did, even little-known things. For example, on July 5, 2002, the San Francisco Chronicle broke a story that went nowhere, but it should have gotten Bush arrested way back in 2002. Here's where I learned about it:

"In reporting about Bush’s past sale of Harken stock and questioning if it was related to the company’s then-impending setback, the Chronicle quoted Bush as saying, 'I absolutely had no idea and would not have sold it had I known.' The truth, however, as the Securities and Exchange Commission records show, and as was reported by the Chronicle, is that Harken’s president had warned board members two months before Bush’s sell-off that the company had liquidity problems that would 'drastically affect operations and stock prices—and Bush was a Harken board member at the time. Therefore, Bush sold stocks clearly knowing insider information, and he was deliberately lying and trying to mislead people by his claim that he 'would not have sold it had I known.' (And by the way, considering this, I have to say it is highly hypocritical and unfair that other people like Martha Stewart are made scapegoats for questionable stock sales, when George W. Judiciary Committee

Even Dennis Kucinich thinks it must go to Judiciary, but that they must act immediately. The thing is to relentlessly and effectively pressure John Conyers, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee (202 225-5126), to hold immediate and thorough hearings.  Never mind that these criminals are supposed be out of office soon. They may try to assume total and totalitarian power, cause an incident like burning the Reichstag, or another one like 9/11. They MUST be impeached even if it is on January 19, 2009 and they MUST be prosecuted in U.S. and international courts even after they leave office.  

There has been an almost total news blackout in MSM especially in the U.S., and as one person has said, the people abroad who know what is happening but don't realize that Americans do not know are scratching their heads and saying, How can the Americans let this go on?  In the thirties, when there were news blackouts in Germany, people elsewhere asked How can the Germans let these terrible things happen?  Well, now we know.  It may already be too late.  If not, it soon will be.

Today John Conyers' office answered after the phone rang for two minutes and fifty seconds. A nice woman coolly took note that I beseeched the Chairman to act quickly to impeach. I asked if they were getting many calls. She replied, Yes, and people ask if we get many calls. When you put something up on the internet you get a lot of calls. I said It's a good thing this is on the internet since it is almost nowhere else. She chuckled.

It is past time to get over surprise or outrage, to use one's outrage as entertainment, to be self-righteous. There must be a way to mobilize millions of people, to help them wake up. What is the way?

Remember the Criminally Insane Are To Be Pitied Most

Maybe "the way". Len. is to be candid  about the obstruction of justice no longer being the only crime to accuse Conyers and company of, but complicity in the continuing mass murder of the occupation wars - actually now more than complicty, rather prime guilt being that the articles of impeachment have been filed and/but criminally buried. (10 comments) I called Rep. Conyers's office, and was surprised to reach the Congressman in person. I charged that, because he was blocking the impeachment process, I held him even more responsible than Bush for the ongoing disaster in Iraq. Conyers didn't hang up.

Who is more guilty, more criminally insane? Bush, Cheney, or Pelosi and Conyers. Remember Conyers is the lynch pin of Bush, Cheney, impeachment denial.

Call 'em, and when speaking or leaving messages keep in mind the insane are to be pitied, whether criminally so or not.

Wake up!

Bush spent seven years consolidating power, abrogating habeas corpus, intimidating congress, gaining control of the courts and congress, spying on Americans, ruling by decree!

Why would anyone indulge the delusion that he will go peacefully?

It'll be time to move on when Bush is safely out of office and IN a jail cell for the capital crimes that even a first year law student could prosecute.

Impeachment

Buzzflash made the following points back in 2007:

"So why is all of Congress - save Rep. Dennis Kucinich - just sitting around when Republicans have already set the impeachment bar so low? In 1999, 79% agreed Clinton had actually committed perjury but a majority of those people still didn't think it was enough to ditch him. By contrast, a poll two months ago found that 54% believe the Bush Administration "deliberately misled the American public" about Iraq, which has resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people.

Of course, Clinton's approval rate was 67% at the time - more than twice Bush's current 28%. That's because Clinton was making the nation a better place despite his personal failings, as opposed to Bush making the whole world worse. For example, 89% of Americans thought the economy was in good shape in 1999, and today 65% oppose the war in Iraq. "

I might point out that Clinton's alleged 'perjury' was about an event that was NOT EVEN a crime. Bush did not merey lie to the American people, the war itself is and continues to be a violation of US Codes, Title 18, Section 2441 ---a CAPITAL CRIME. I have found NOTHING in the law books that says he must first be impeached before he can be indicted by a Federal Grand Jury for a crime for which the punishment prescribed by Federal Law is punishable by death!

If the American people were not willfully ignorant with regard to our own laws and the Constitution, Bush might have been out on his sorry ass long ago!

Stopping Bush

I have come to the conclusion that going forward with impeachment would, at the very least, keep Bush too busy to do any more harm in the next few months. So even if the clock runs out before the process can be completed it will have accomplished something.
