Is It Any Wonder Newspapers are Dying?

This was the top headline in this morning's New York Times, "Beyond Seizing Parks, New Paths to Influence", written by Cara Buckley. She begins, "The anti Wall Street protests, which are being driven from their urban encampments, now face a pivotal challenge: With their outposts gone, will their movement wither?"

Reading the article through, there was no questioning by the writer the legitimacy of the authorities to dismantle the encampments and abridge the people's Constitutional right to peaceably assemble in them. As to the movement "withering", her interviews with those in the movement indicated their resolve to continue to protest even in the face of official crackdowns. So what's the basis for the "withering" question?

Does anyone wonder why newspapers are dying, why the main stream media has become vacuous in its reporting, how its obsession with objectivity and balance gives credence to illegal seizures, the shredding of the Constitution and "the right of the people peaceably assemble, and to petition the government for redress of grievances"?

The MSM and newspapers in particular have become stooges and stenographers, useful dupes for officials to spread falsehoods i.e. Bloomberg said there were "health, safety and fire hazards (as if these were unassailable truths). Let's not forget the media's being triumphalist boosters of illegal wars, their lack of questioning drone attacks that kill indiscriminately or even the legality of targeted assassination of American citizens.

It serves the plutocracy, all but its official organ; a pathetic shell of a free press.
