Dennis Kucinich: Timing of Attack In Syria So Close To Election Questioned

by Dennis Kucinich     Page 1 of 1 page(s)

www.opednews.com

Tell A Friend

The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported on Sunday that four U.S. helicopters conducted an attack on the Syrian side of the border with Iraq in which eight people were killed. SANA reports stated that American helicopters raided the village of Sukariya, 340 miles northeast of Damascus, and then returned to Iraqi airspace. The Syrian government claims that of the eight people who died, four were children.

"Saber rattling and attacks upon sovereign nations who did not attack us are unacceptable. We must question the timing. We are on the eve of national elections and we must be mindful of the Administration's past manipulation of security issues in order to influence public opinion," stated Kucinich. "We cannot stand by and let them use the lives of innocent people as pawns in their wrongful political objectives."

The attacks in Syria come at a sensitive time as U.S. and Iraqi lawmakers are engaged in negotiations regarding the status of forces agreement, which would legitimize the presence of U.S. forces in Iraq after the expiration of the UN mandate governing the American presence.

Kucinich opposed the war, offered a plan for withdrawal shortly after the US invasion, and opposes any agreement that would keep U.S. troops in Iraq.

"The Iraq war has already cost the lives of 4,189 Americans, more than a million innocent Iraqis and three to five trillion in ultimate costs. The only acceptable status of American forces is for the troops to immediately return to their homes and families," stated Kucinich.

"We must have an international peace-keeping and security force organized for the purposes of transitioning in to help secure Iraq as the U.S. leaves," he said, reciting one of the provisions of the Kucinich plan.

"Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and now Syria, instead of expanding an expensive war, we should be focusing on resolving our own financial crises' back home, putting Americans back to work and rebuilding our nation's infrastructure," added Kucinich.

Dennis Kucinich is a congressman from Ohio and a 2008 presidential primary candidate. http://kucinich.us/ The best way to reach congressman Kucinich is through the information on his congressional website

ATTACT ON SYRIA,

IT should not have been, it is a trick of the devil, and Bush, and those people and children as well lost their life, and any excuse is better than none.

this is out and out murder,of those who were not and are not fighting with the U.S.A, why would Bush do such a thing, why is he so evil in his heart, and speak of God at that.

I have no pity for Bush, or love either, and I do feel for those Syrian's, for they did nothing wrong.

Disaster Capitalism

Evelyn,

Go out and get a copy of Naomi Klein's "The Shock Doctrine - The Rise of Disaster Capitalism, read and re-read it while you await election day to arrive. Because, what Naomi brings to light within the pages of her expose, is precisely what WE are voting against in this election; decades of ruthless, predatory abuse of power, with greedy bottom-lines that are soaked with innocent blood.

Proper education and sunlight are the best disinfectants!

Steve Windisch (jibbguy)a concerned citizen and supporter of a new Coalition 3rd Party; as well as the Open Source Energy Movement!

Amen ;)

Dennis Kucinich for Speaker of the House!!

This is why there is only one logical choice for the next Speaker, and it is DK:

> The only way to "purge'" the next Congress from the very heinous sins of the previous one.... His leadership would mean reconciliation and restoration of confidence.

> The only way to insure real change happens despite a Obama administration. He will keep the Executive and Senate "honest" by refusing to rubber stamp; and he would insist ALL the extra-Constitutional powers usurped by the bush regime are returned.

> The means of seeing Universal Not-For-Profit Healthcare in our lifetimes. DK IS NOT in the pocket of pharms and health insurance corps... WHO else of his seniority can we say that of without reservation or hesitation again??

> This is the way to finally kill the power of the corporate lobbyists. He would laugh at their threats, publicly name their cronies, shame the pocket-sitters into distancing themselves... Get the election finance reform laws on the books to stop it.

> No one has worked harder for the Middle Class. No one has tried to do more for the poor, or tried harder to staunch the arterial bleeding of our manufacturing sector. THIS is what is going to matter next year... And those without the bonafides will look like part of the problem; because they sure as hell were not part of the solution.

He wouldn't be the full answer, but he would be MUCH more than we could expect in anyone else. Can we afford another loser like Pilosi?? Can we afford to allow anyone who was in a position of power during THIS Congress to gain even more power?  Conyers? Hell no. He showed us what he was made of... Only those such as Kucinich, Wexler, and a hand-full of lesser-known lower-seniority Congresspersons should even be eligible! Anyone who refused to support Impeachment, for instance, showed their hand for the all world to see... That leaves Dennis Kucinich as the Ranking Member.

We may have a historic opportunity rarely seen here.... A near-total collapse of the opposing Party, and a vacuum at the top of the victorious party caused the shameful failure of this Congress' record. This would be the time to strike out and get what we need. Who better to get us that than the person who stood against EVERYTHING they (from BOTH sides) could throw at him? The one person of senior rank who actually looked GOOD from all of this??

The one person who still stood for what being a Democrat really meant.

Why should the other Dem Congresspersons vote for DK? ... Because he will save their collective asses, that's why. A real leader is desperately needed now; not a corporate boot licker or cowardly poll-watcher to allow the rot to continue. There is only one way to restore the confidence of the American people in Congress... And that is by getting real results, bold action... And not just more empty rhetoric.

Success has a price: It is responsibility. If the next Congress abuses the pooch AGAIN, the Dems won't get another chance from the American People... There will be no one else to blame this time, nowhere to hide. THAT'S why DK is the smartest choice for Speaker... Even for blue dogs.

Hehehe, besides, can't you all imagine the enraged faces of the Exxon and G.E. execs; the red-faced spittle-drooling frustration of people like Harry Reid... ?  That would be worth it by itself ;)

Absolutely right on, Steve.

And it wouldn't hurt to get rid of Nasty Pelosi, first.

I'm emailing my pennies to Dennis Kucinich first, and Cindy Sheehan second.  Pretty much like I was doing nine months ago.  But not being a resident of either Congressional candidate's district, I'm still undecided about what to do on election day.

Why not write in Frank Zappa's name like I did in 1968?

Under the Radar - Free Markets

Dennis,

Isn’t it just wonderful how ‘Mavericks’ can just fly right in, under the catch-all: Alkaeda Everywhere; Global War on Terror, and just kill anyone they wish, anyone necessary that is threat to their sprawling, ubiquitous multi-national; then, flip the rest of the world the bird? Syria needs to allow independent news and UN coverage of this, under the radar op. We want to know what our government is doing, Secretly, in our name!

Don’t forget the self-serving and baited SOFA deal.

The long-arm of the Corporatarchs are doing what they do best, using Fear, Blackmail, Bribery and Torture:

Without ‘SOFA’ Deal - US Threatens To Halt Services to Iraq

Bush/Cheney neocon regime attempting to tie the hands of a future Barack administration, as they relentlessly push for Iraqi’s to swallow the toxic SOFA pill:

Iraqi peoples' discontent with SOFA runs deep

Thanks for your appreciated and continued efforts Dennis!

It seems as if we want to be the aggressor

And continue, unrelentlessly, to SPREAD our so-called power beyond our little jewel of Iraq. Why can't these oil-mongers see that this approach is the same kind of strategy used in the 20th century, got the world nowhere, killed millions, created hatred, inequity, disease, and non-ending war.

When will we wake up and stop acting like primates?

Dennis Kucinich: Timing of Attack in Syria etc

The timing of this attack has actually to do with the 'conveniently' arranged elections in Israel, 'arranged' in anticipation of an Obama victory on Nov 4! The Zionists in America, Right-Wing Christian and Jewish, who have been running US Foreign Policy in the Middle East, are trying to create 'facts' on the ground for Obama to believe against Syria by linking Syria to Al Qaida where there has never been any link. Imagine an Allawi Shiite Police State, Syria, having relations with a Salafi Sunni gone beserk, Al Qaeda! This is a REPLAY of what the same Zionists 'arranged' against Saddam's Iraq. You will say, how come? You will say, this raid was carried out by Pentagon and CIA! I will agree! But, who do the Pentagon and CIA take orders from? The same Christian & Jewish Zionists who have been RUNNING Capitol Hill & the US Administration for far too long and 'running' means carrots and sticks; 'carrots' reads $$$ and sticks read, threats of exposure of the skeletons in the cupboards of most 'gentlemen' at Capitol Hill and Penn Av, courtesy Mossad assets in FBI and other 'spooky' agencies! And do not forget Main Stream Media and Hollywood, owned by the likes of Murdoch! Poor Obama! |Can he see through all this? Or, ............

Doesnt this remind u of Hitlers attack on Poland?

NOTE EU silence on this brazen attack and violation of soveregnty.Note that the US is using Iraq to attack other countries using the war of terror as a pretext. ALso note the Irsaqi govty is condoning US attacks...

Other nations inthe region are taking note of this atrocity. For they may be th next victims of USD 'self-defence'.

speaking truth to power doesnt work

Speaking truth to power doesnt work, esp if your voice is not broadcast. Power can ignore truth, when Truth has no power.

This truth to power talk is foolish. It gives the impotent  delusory sense of power. It does not change the acts of agression or put the aggressors in jail.

an empire and its puppet negotiate

''The attacks in Syria come at a sensitive time as U.S. and Iraqi lawmakers are engaged in negotiations regarding the status of forces agreement, which would legitimize the presence of U.S. forces in Iraq after the expiration of the UN mandate governing the American presence.''

The Iraqi govt is  puppet of the US and its recent support for the US massacre in syria proves it.

What exactly are they negotiating, and who can believe they are doing so in the interests of the iraqi people!

NYT serving the empire

NYT on the syria massacre:

 ''

In seeking to carry out cross-border missions inside Pakistan and now in Syria, the United States government is expected to make the case that these operations will help protect the lives of American troops. It is not clear how far-reaching the White House may be in seeking to apply the rationale, but several senior American officials expressed hope that it would be embraced by the next president as well.'

Protect american troops? Or stoke further attacks on american troops to justify US presence in Iraq!

Note:

''The helicopter-borne attack into Syria was by far the boldest by American commandos in the five years since the United States invaded Iraq and began to condemn Syria’s role in stoking the Iraqi insurgency'

Its ok for US to ''invade'' Iraq...but not for iraqis to defend their country, or for anyone else to stoke an ínsurgency'' (as Iraq is under military occupation by a foreign power, there is no legfitimate govt and so no insurgency!)

Thankyou Dennis, for calling this out!

All I've seen on this on MSM so far has been a byline sneaking by on the tickertape at the bottom...no doubt hoping as few people would notice as possible!

Of COURSE it has everything to do with the election...Ours and Israels'.

The bastards will do anyhting to stay in power, including starting another war.  And with their fantasies of Armageddon, they don't even care if it's THE War that ends it all for life on Earth!

Unabated American GOP Gov't arrogance

The only true 'liberal in de house' gratefully cites the unabated and continued arrogance of the Bush-GOP Feds even after corporate media negated and utterly destroyed his campaign by choosing the Obama-Clinton 'moderate conservatives' for the nation.

This attack on Syria is astonishing Bush-GOP-Fed arrogance in the face of world shame from an election year more reminicent of the turbulent 1930s when racist Christian Nazi Fascists openly paraded on main street [much like they do today in 'conservative disguise] 10s of 1000s KKK members marched on DC [many photos from this era there] and a republican backed Wall Street plotted to overthrown FDR and democracy by installing a 1930s European form of fascism here in America..

It's as if FDR forecast our early 21st century crisis in democracy from 'We will have a liberal democracy, or we will return to the Dark Ages' as well as his wife Eleanor in forseeing this new era of McCartyism and Hitlerian abuse of Liberals right along with FDR VP Wallace citing 'The Danger of American Fascism'..
