The lovely gardens in front of the cathedral are still intact, situated on a raised level overlooking a central boulevard below.

Across the way is one of the more orderly tent cities in Port-au-Prince, even sporting a watertank.
Looking north, you can see the bay of Port-au-Prince in the distance.

Walking back toward the cathedral, one comes upon this elevated statue of Jesus on the Cross just inside the iron-fenced perimeter of the grounds.
It is Wednesday, and every Wednesday the Faithful gather to pray for earthquake victims, living and dead in this little square on the north side within view of the statue of Jesus.
Deep and passionate praying and chanting is going on now.
Men and women will dress in white if they can to heighten the spirituality of this weekly sacred event.
I was so taken with this gathering that I decided to videotape the prayer session. This is a ten minute segment.

Note that the nunciature and the archdiocesan offices also collapsed during the earthquake, killing his Excellency, Diocesan Archbishop Joseph Serge Miot instantly, and trapping the Vicar General, Charles Benoit, who died later.
The Diocese intends to fully rebuild this majestic Cathedral.
