Rough preparatory and interview notes:

Our top down, badly broken system of health care is not going to take care of you. It's a for-profit system created to take care of insurance companies, drug companies, hospitals. . .so once you know that, you change course and connect to a community that supports health and wellness, not disease and sickness.

Top down disease: Medical care itself --errors by doctors and hospitals -- is the third leading cause of death in the U.S. Can you imagine?

Up for Yourself, Choose Happiness, Team Up with Your Doctor, How To Raise an Active Kid.

The Top Down system has not served us well, I say over and over again. Our health care is the most expensive in the world, delivering mediocre care at best. In every other civilized nation, basic health care is free.

I've got strong feelings (and non-fake facts) to back up the idea that now is the time to shift away from a broken, cruel and abusive for-profit system to something so much better, you're not going to believe it.

You stress the power of connection & so do I. All is Well guides people to connect to others who share our values, support our strengths, make our lives less stressful, more joyful, less about Stuff and more about having meaningful relationships and a balanced life. Many studies have shown that when it comes to longevity --living a vibrant and long life-- more important than how much you weigh and what you eat is the community you're part of, your friends and family, who you love, and who loves you.

After 40 years as a journalist tracking fitness and wellness, I know this for sure: Big Food companies have helped make us very sick, Big Drug companies have made us addicts. I'm sure you know that the U.S. is only one of TWO countries in the world that allows drug companies to advertise directly to consumers. The results (since 1988) have made drug companies richer and made we humans sick, addicted, sometimes dead.

Also like you, I believe that the way forward is not to bring down or plow under the current structure. It's to build a better system from the Bottom Up and let people opt into it. That's how holistic mind-body medicine began to take hold in our country 40-50 years ago and it's been a monumental shift, which I also celebrate in the book.
