McCain's Palin Pick Proves His "Put My Country First" Hypocrisy
By Rob Kall
McCain's and the GOP's "Put America First" branding is about to backfire on them.
::::::::
For weeks, we've been subjected to John McCain claiming he made choices and took positions based on what's good for America-- "McCain, country first," or "putting America first," and that Barack Obama was making political choices that would help him win the political race.
And he brings it to his town meetings
And Keith Olbermann gets into McCain's Hypocrisy. I'm exactly bringing up something new, just more evidence.
Now, we have Sarah Palin. Clearly, she is not the most likely, not the best choice for America. She is not the Republican or Democrat (let's not forget turncoat Joe Lieberman) who would be best to replace McCain when he dies or goes so senile his handlers can't hide it anymore. They're doing a good job most of the time, except for those inconvenient slips, like when he talked about borders that don't exist and got Shia and Sunni mixed up.
I don't think we'll hear John McCain using that line of attack against Obama anymore.
McCain's decision to pick Sarah Palin looks to be emblematic of his character-- impulsive, sloppy, failing to do his homework, ignoring good judgement and common sense. That's the kind of guy he has a history of being and the kind of president he will be-- a terrifying thought.
This "Put My country first" theme is one the Republicans have embraced bigtime. Here's a brief video of right wing Fox propagandist Chris Wallace giving free campaign time to Karl Rove, discussing how "Put my country first" is the theme of the Republican convention... and working the "story-narrative" that McCain has cut short the convention, "sacrificing," for the people of the gulf region threatened by hurricane Gustav.
This suggests that the RNC is using the phrase as a branding meme. That makes it even more important for the Obama campaign and local candidates as well, to attack the hypocrisy.
Maybe they should not only use Palin, but throw in the lies that brought us to war. Something along these lines:
"Sarah Palin as VP-- putting America first? She's a nice person, but the best choice for a person to step in as president of the United States? Who's John McCain, who keeps telling us he puts America first fooling? But there's more.
They said they were protecting our counry from WMDs, Putting our country first, when they lied us into the Iraq quagmire.
They said they were putting our country first when they refused to fund alternative energy sources.
They say they're putting our country first by giving big oil billions in tax breaks.
They're actually putting the big corporations with bigtime lobbying budgets first. They're putting their cronies first. They're putting the extremist religious groups who do not represent America-- who are trying to force their personal values on Americ-- first.
John McCain and his Republican, Bush/Cheney rubber stamping party-- putting anything but America first.
That's a lot more accurate.
