Iowa Wrap up

By Rob Kall

stats and observations

::::::::

Huckabee got 60% of evangelical Christians, 14% of non evangelicals.

Obama pulled more votes from women than Hillary 35 to 30%.

Iowa turnout DOUBLED the previous caucus.

Twice as many people turned out for Dem caucuses as for Republican caucuses. Obama Won his victory with twice the votes Huckabee received.

Even Joe Scarborough was wowed by Obama, saying he appears to be the successor to Bobby Kennedy. Pundits found their hearts with the hope message of Obama.

Tim Russert: "The two winners in Iowa were the youngest candidates from each party-- people voted for change."

Generations: Hillary pulled 2 to 1 against Obama for people over 65. Obama puled 5 to 1 against Hillary for people under 30.

Retired from the primaries:  Mike Gravel, Joe Biden, Chris Dodd,

Did Campaign Strategy bad judgment hurt Hillary? USA Today reports that "six months ago, one of Hillary's deputy campaign managers advised her to skip Iowa in the face  of Edwards' history here and Obama's next-door-neighbor standing. Instead, she shook up her iowa team and redoubled her money, staff and time commitments to the state."  Was this judgment call  a decision that could lead to the death of her campaign?

Incumbent attitude doesn't work. Hillary and Rudy have been acting like they are the closest thing to the "incumbents" in their prospective races. The message from Iowa is that people want change. Self identifying as being part of the status quo, the system, looks like a sure loser.

If a Black can win in Iowa... USA Today reports that S. Carolina former Dem Chairman, Dick Harpootlian, says, of Obama's victory in Iowa, "which is as white as vanilla ice cream.... will let African-Americans  in South Carolina know that he can go the distance."

There you go. I've primed the pump for statistics, comments, observations on Iowa. Please add some that struck you as worth mentioning.
