Notes to myself on Impeachment
By Rob Kall
I'm wearing my impeachment tee shirt today.
::::::::
I'll be speaking to the South Jersey PDA group this evening. (location and directions at bottom of article) so I'm thinking even more than usual about impeachment. Some thoughts;
I want Bush out... and before him Cheney.
They:
are criminals of the worst kind-- whether direct or indirect, they have causes the deaths of hundreds of thousands.
have trashed and violated the constitution.
have assailed and weakened the rights and freedoms of Americans.
have colluded with corporations-- many of them non-american-- at the expense of America-- American industry, American Jobs.
have done all they could to remove or weaken regulations and laws that protect humans, workers, the environment, health, safety...
have done all they could to destroy, shrink and weaken government and what it stands for, which includes homeland security, education, police, fire departments, libraries, roads, infrastructure...
These monsters don't just deserve to be easily let off the hook with resignations.
They deserve to be indicted, prosecuted convicted and sentenced to serve serious time in non-plush prison.
They deserve to have all the rewards taken away from them the they have gotten because of their illegal and corrupt actions, starting with their illegal appointment to office by the Supreme court.
What if there is an even bigger, a huge, massive landslide in the 2008 Election?
Now, there are those who say that there are not enough votes in the senate to convict them if they are impeached in the house. That may be true now. But we must move forward with impeachment ON the table.
We must do more of what is being done-- more hearings, more subpoenas, more confrontations with the executive branch.
The public must see that this is a rogue administration. Finally, the media are showing this, reporting it-- not doing a great job, but they're getting started.
We must have dozens, if not hundreds of hearings and subpoenas and conflicts between the congress and the Bush administration.
It must become clear to the people of the US that the Bush admin is the worst, most despicable, most corrupt in US history-- and that it's supporters, the ones keeping it in office must go.
It looks like the timing for impeachment could get very interesting. If it happens in the middle of 2008, which will only happen with a huge hue and cry from the grassroots, then there is the very interesting possiblity that the senate will not vote on impeachment until after the new senate returns in January '09.
It just may be possible that enough new senators will replace Bush-supporting incumbents so that the new, 2009 senate actually CAN convict Bush. Yes. He will be out of office, but the constitution will be served, and that will set up some other intersting things in momentum.
If, finally, the congress has the guts to also revisit the 2000 and 2004 elections, they may even conclude that those elections were stolen, and decide that Bush's Supreme court appointees and other judicial appointees were illegally appointed. Will they be impeached en masse? Will the Bush appointed supreme court justices be removed, and the ones who illegally appointed Bush be impeached?
Okay. I'm dreaming, fantasizing.
But we are in very bad shape right now. We are facing decades of despicable Supreme court decisions unless there is a way to get rid of the cretinous lying scum (John Roberts and Samuel Alito if they're tracking their coverage) liars who Bush appointed, who said they would not revise precedent.
Why not aim for taking enough of a win in the senate to make it possible to impeach these neanderthal SCOTUS judges?
Then again, watching the current batch of Dem senators question Bush's 32 year old political aide, it's hard to imagine them accomplishing the tough job of impeaching anyone. They have to get much tougher and start moving faster. My opinion is that bringing a Bush staffer to testify while allowing her to refuse to not answer questions, based on executive privilege, is a mistake, that dilutes the message that BUsh is not cooperating, hiding behind trumped up claims of executive power.
Dave Lindorff's article On the Road for Impeachment (or If Folks are Cheering, This Must be Texas) on his travels while wearing an impeachment tee-shirt are very encouraging. I'm going to start putting an impeach bush bumper sticker on my car.
Mark Crispin Miller's report on one congressional rep's attitude toward impeachment-- Expose'; Rush Holt, HR 811 and Avante International -- that people aren't interested-- is discouraging, but also motivating. That congressman, Rush Holt, is out of touch with his constituents-- a rocket scientist who doesn't have a clue.
I'm going to wear my impeachment tee shirt today.
I'm going to start asking more people I know, see and meet to tell their legislators they want impeachment. I'm going to talk it up.
I'm going to support John COnyers, Henry Waxman, Dennis Kucinich and all the other house reps who are going after the criminals, with hearings, to keep it up and step it up.
You should do the same. Let your local daily newspapers know. Barrage them with letters. Get your neighbors to send the messages to the local papers, the local network news stations, the producers at the networks...
The future looks very bleak unless we do something about it. We can make this happen. We need to make this happen. America depends upon it. The world is waiting, or, as the movement org says, the WORLD CAN'T WAIT.
