"Lucky 13" Amendments to Current Election Reform Proposals

By Kathy Dopp

Congress will get greater support from both election integrity groups and election officials if it makes these "lucky thirteen" amendments to current election reform proposals which would ensure public oversight of elections, adequate manual audits to ensure accurate election outcomes, sufficient funding, reasonable time frames, and flexibility.

::::::::

Election Officials seem to have four main objections to current election reform proposals:

1. Unreasonable Time Frames,

2. Insufficient Funding,

3. The Authority of the US Election Assistance Commission is Strengthened, and

4. Insufficient Flexibility for States.

Election Integrity Activists have similar objections to current election reform proposals:

1. Insufficient, yet Administratively Burdensome, Manual Counts of Voter-Verified Paper Ballots;

2. Loopholes in Manual Audits;

3. The Power of the US Election Assistance Commission is Increased; and

4. Insufficient Public Access to Election Records Necessary for Citizen Oversight Over Elections.

Congress would get greater support from both election integrity groups and election officials alike if Congress makes these "lucky thirteen" amendments to current election reform proposals which would ensure public oversight of elections, adequate manual audits to ensure accurate election outcomes, sufficient funding, reasonable time frames, and flexibility.
