Animal Action Issues

By Suzana Megles

Sadly, human and animal cruelty in all its forms will always be with us. In this post I am addressing some animal cruelty I found listed in the animal-action issues found In Defense of Animals.

::::::::

This morning I copied 18 pages of actions designed to stop animal suffering. Here are just some of the actions I copied. Hopefully at a later date I will find time to address the rest in another post. But If interested and want to read more-- this can be found at (.idausa.org).

Sadly, the list starts off with " A War on Ethics: A New Culture of Cruelty Threatens Animals." I always cringe when I read about Rep. STEVEN KING of Iowa. Clearly he is no friend of animals. He believes that animal protection laws should not exist.

He has attempted to legalize dog fighting, cockfighting, and the consumption of cat and dog meat. I find it hard to believe that the people of Iowa voted for him. Thank God, I don't believe Ohio has any legislators of his ilk.

This time anchors Nora O'Donnell and Gail King are on the hot seat of animal lovers of which I am one. Hopefully, these two anchors can somehow justify giggling about bacon. But how? For people of compassion --especially those of us who are vegan or vegetarian, there is absolutely NOTHING funny about bacon when you consider the trauma and cruelty experienced by pigs who are slaughtered for it.

I thought crush videos were gone, but I was wrong. One action here wants to see people who abuse and torture animals for sick fun to be charged and jailed. In their crush videos and crush porn, sadists torture and kill animals.

South Korea recently held a winter Olympics. Sadly, nothing to my knowledge was reported re their dog-meat-eating propensity. I wish there had been a movement to boycott their games because of this cruelty and barbarity, but sadly no reporters touched this terrible cruelty to dogs.

I thought Sea World was a thing of the past, but sadly read here that they were responsible recently for the killing of a baby Beluga whale.

This too is incredibly sad but a therapy dog was executed by a veteran. Clearly, he didn't deserve the companionship of this dog or for that matter any future therapy dogs.

Ungrateful owners of a racing horse who after running 61 races and earning his "owners" a quarter million dollars was left in his "retirement" to be consumed alive by maggots. They never deserved him. and he certainly deserved better care--much, much better.

What's going on in Wisconsin? IDA reported that Wisconsin is reportedly throwing baby birds into gas chambers. If so, terribly cruel, which can never be justified for whatever reasons.

In April of 2016, John Colter Pyron of Hazelhurst, Mississippi, was arrested by the police department for animal cruelty, possession of schedule III controlled substance, and suspicion of poisoning animals following an investigation of complaints. Sadly, the courts let him off with a deplorable plea bargain. Obviously, justice was not served for the animals who suffered at his hand.

I have only covered a few pages of this 18-page document revealing animal- cruelty cases. If interested, please go to the In Defense of Animals (IDA) site if you want to read how sadly we as a nation treat our innocent animals. Hopefully, I will find time to cover those cases at another time.

Authors Bio:
I have been concerned about animal suffering ever since

I received my first puppy Peaches in 1975. She made me take a good look at the animal kingdom and I was shocked to see how badly we treat so many animals. At 77, I've been a vegan for the past 30 years and I thank God every day that I am. I am most disturbed at how little the Catholic Church and Christian churches generally give to concern re animal suffering in their ministry. I wrote to 350 bishops in 2001 and only 10-13 responded. I feel that the very least they can do is to instruct that the priests give one sermon a year on compassion to animals. I am still waiting for that sermon. I also belong to Catholic Concern for Animals - founded in England in 1929. (They are on the internet) I recently sent a sample copy of their bi-monthly publication called the ARK to the 8 Catholic bishops of Ohio. Only ONE kindly responded. Somehow we have to reach the Christian teaching magisterium. There is next to nothing re animal concerns and compassion for them. They basically believe that animals are the lesser of God's creation and that gives us the right to do anything we want to them. Way wrong. We need to change their mindsets. The animals are God's first and He expects us to treat them compassionately.
