Busby Redux; Cheap Dems Who Can't Change Their Losing Ways

By Rob Kall

Francine Busby came within four points of beating Brian Bilbray. This was the most important race of the spring, one that would be claimed as a harbinger of things to come in the fall by the winning side. Then why...

::::::::

So why the hell did the Dems let the Republicans spend twice as much money on the campaign? Bilbray spent 4.4 million, much of it on attack ads. What a surprise.

Why didn't genius Rahm Emanuel anticipate this and budget MORE money than the Republicans?

I'll tell you why. Because the DCCC doesn't think smart. They have this attitude that the local candidate has to spend enormous amounts of time raising money, sort of like the members of Opus Dei inflict pain upon themselves every day, like the guy in the Da Vinci Code, who used a sulpice to stab his legs.

This race was NOT just another congressional race. It was THE bellwether race, the one that would fill the news in weeks to come, the one that would set the mood and spin for the coming November contests.

There is no reason imaginable that could excuse the Democratic party for not just matching but OUTspending the Republicans on this race. Oh, now we can say that cost per percentage point was much less for Busby. Big effing deal. She lost. Imagine if she'd outspent Bilbray. Oh, never mind. The Dems were too dumb and too cheap to break out of their loser mentality.

And lets be clear about at least one thing. This fall, every democratic candidate will be brutally attacked, either by direct ads from opponents or by swift boat ads, They will be treated horribly by right wing talk show hosts. The right wing will be pulling out all the stops, using all their dirty tricks. There is zero doubt about this. The Democrats have to have anticipatory plans. They have to be ready, expecting WHAT the attacks will be about. And they have to be ready to hit back even harder. Or they will lose, just like they let Busby lose.

PSS and we have noted that there were all kinds of e-voting hanky panky-- illegal stuff. Why aren't the Democratic leaders screaming bloody murder? But we know why don't we. We've studied invertebrate biology. The answer is to throw the loser Dem strategists out. Just tell them to go away and don't come back, or tell them to get a job working with Republicans.
