An Artist's Thoughts On Biting an Apple

By Rob Kall

Here's a different way to think about biting an apple

I spent part of the day today at Mana Contemporary-- an artist loft building--   in the Pilsen section of Chicago. It's a six story building with over 100 artists and fast growing to many more. We roved the floors checking out artists lofts, chatting with the artists.

One artist, Sabri Reed, who does performance art (sabrireed.com ,) had a thought bubble on a wall, about apples. After over a half hour talking with her and her loft-mate, Andrew Barco, my eyes landed on a thought bubble she'd created. I liked it. What do I know. I'm no art critic. But it evoked an idea and image that was pleasing.

Here's she is, with her thought bubble, with the text below.

"There is a certain violence rendered on one's thoughts by the act of eating an apple--
the crispness breaking down loudly, resounding in your head.
It's only after, as the sweetness ligers, that thoughts are seduced to emerge."

See some of Sabri's work at  sabrireed.com and the work she's done in collaboration with Andrew Barco at wearestillmaking.com.

Thanks to  G. Lloyd  Rowsey  for inspiring me to post art content.
