Letter to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder -- PLEASE PROTECT OUR CHILDREN!
By Debby Bodkin
There are too many unanswered questions being swept under the rug in our society, as evidenced by media reports involving the kidnap, rape and 18 years captivity of Jaycee Dugard, Melissa Huckaby, Chelsea King, Amber Dubois, the disappearance of Natalee Holloway and the international clergy sex abuse crisis. THIS IS A PUBLIC SAFETY CRISIS!
::::::::
Dear Honorable Attorney General Holder:
As an advocate for the fair administration of justice, especially as it relates to the protections of children and those who protect them as mandated reporters/whistleblowers,it is difficult to understand whysomeone in a position to connect the dots and take immediate corrective action, has not found the courageto do so!Yes, this is an election year -- but, so what! There are too many unanswered questions that are being swept under the rug in our society, as evidenced by media reports involving Jaycee Dugard, Melissa Huckaby, Chelsea King, Amber Dubois and the international clergy sex abuse crisis, asdescribed below:
JAYCEE DUGARD
The Modesto Beereported on July 8, 2010,"Dugard Settlement Leaves Questions", at http://www.modbee.com/2010/07/09/1244920/dugard-settlement-leaves-questions.html, that "...by settling out of court, the state almost certainly saved quite a bit of money. But that savings has to be weighed against the value of full disclosure -- the facts that would have come out during a trial and the accountability to follow."
There is not a parent in the world that does not feel thehorrific pain that Jaycee's kidnapping and abuse have caused to everyone with knowledge of the tragedy. Now that the $20 million settlement has been approved by California's government leaders, will thismatterbe signed, sealed, check delivered andVoila, the facts surrounding the crimesfiled away from public disclosure forever?
As previously reported, Jaycee was raised inOrange County, California until she was 11 years old. Her familythen moved to South Lake Tahoe, California, to escapecrime. As some believe,Orange County is one of the most affluent and safest places to live and raise children. I cannot help but wonder if there is some type of"secret" and/or "horrific" crime that motivated and/or forced Jaycee's family and other families like myself,to leave Orange County, California.
It is no secret, withfactsrevealed incivil and criminalpublic court files available for anyone to review, that the affluent and political powers in Orange County, California, havea long history of ignoring crimes committed by politically-connected and influential individuals, sometimes interfering with the right to the fairadministration of justice. The following information is submitted to the U.S. Department of Justice for review and investigation:
MELISSA HUCKABY
The Mercury News reported on July 2, 2010, "Melissa Huckaby's parents speak out for first time on NBC's 'Today", athttp://www.mercurynews.com/crime-courts/ci_15429166, that "Huckaby has struggled with emotional issues since reportedly being raped by a police officer when she was 19. The details surrounding the claim remain unknown. As a result, said Brian Lawless, Huckaby's father, she never got the mental health treatment she needed."
Melissa Huckaby has pled guilty, will spend the rest of her life inprison, has publicly expressed remorse for the pain she has causedSandra Cantu's parents, family and friends. There is no way to justify thekilling ofan innocent child and there never will be. However, I am only one person, with little resources to research concerns about whether or not Melissa Huckabywas denied justice when she was reported rapeby a trusted Cypress Police Department official.
It is important to note that Melissa Huckaby, like Jaycee Dugard, lived in Orange County, California, when she wasraped at the age of 19 years old. As a mother of three daughters, the rape of a child, at any age,is terrifying -- andvictims of sex abuse and rape sometimes never recover from the trauma.Melissa Huckaby's reports ofrapein 1999 may or may not have been thoroughly investigated; however, now that Melissa Huckaby is servingthe rest of her life in prison and labeled as an individual with mental disabilities, the public will most likely never know whether Melissa was denied justice when she was raped in 1999, and denied theprotections she deserved.
AMBER DUBOIS AND CHELSEA KING
As reported in the media, the parents and families of14-year-old Amber Duboisand 17 year old Chelsea King lost their precious daughters forever in San Diego, California. How does anyone heal from this type of horror? Tragically, it appears that there may have beenparole agentswho missed opportunities to send John Albert Gardner III back to prison before he killed Amber Dubois and 17-year-old Chelsea King.
The nightmare of having a child murderedis a fear of any parent;however, when a child is murdered by a known registered sex offender and/or a sex offender who has manipulated the registration process, answers need to be researched to avoid history repeating itself. As a mother, without an investigation, the fear isanever-ending roller coasterride, filled with emotions, anger, terror.
As a society, nothing we do now will bring Amber and Chelsea home to theirparents. However, we can change the future with corrective sanctions and research. Since Gardner is now serving the rest of his life in prison, I fear many unanswered questions will disappear andfiled away from public disclosure forever.Questions:
Will we ever know if Gardner himself was a victim of sex abuse and/or childhood violence?
Will the attorneys, Judges and parole officers responsible for enforcing laws protecting the public from sexual predators like Gardner be investigated for potential wrongdoing, political favors, with intent to avoid history from repeating itself?
ROMANCATHOLICDIOCESE OF ORANGE
CATHOLIC ARCHDIOCESE OF LOS ANGELES
ROMAN CATHOLIC DIOCESE OF SAN DIEGO
P0PE BENEDICT
CARDINAL WILLIAM LEVADA (Prefect for the Congregation of Faith-Vatican)
THE VATICAN
As a Catholic wife and mother, with children who attended Catholic schools supervised by the RomanCatholic Diocese of Orange in Southern California, I am haunted daily by the fact that my children and thousands of other unsuspecting children andparents, trustedthe Diocese of Orange and its legal advisors to place the safety of ourchildren at their highest priority.I am just one mother in Orange County, California --think about all the other parents throughout the world who did exactly what I did. Some were not as lucky as my husband and I. Tragically, many parents must face the fact that their childrenweresexually abused by a trusted member of the clergy and were denied justice--all in the name of freedom of religion, pastoral privilege and separation of Church and State. This makes me physically ill!
We must publicly acknowledgethatcourageous victims of clergy sex abuse crimes, their families, attorneys and ethical journalists, continue to scream from mountain tops to ensure that the faithful in the pews and government legislators will someday open their eyes and ears to the truth--CORRECTIVE ACTION IS URGENT!It is horrific that Pope Benedict, Prefect for the Congregation of Faith Cardinal William Levada, Cardinal Roger Mahony, Bishop Tod Brown,Bishop Brom, Vatican officials and other religious leaders have made a choice to protect financial portfolios andabuse the U.S. bankruptcy process, versus walking their public relations talk.
The Associated Press reported on May 20, 2005, at http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2005/05/20/2_in_scandal_still_hold_church_posts/, "2 in Scandal Still Hold Church Posts", that "Two Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange officials who covered up for priests accused of molestation years ago remain in church positions -- one of them as a bishop, according to personnel files released as part of a clergy sex abuse settlement."
Thearticle was published over 5 years ago and yet, it is business as usual here in Orange County, California, and sadly, throughout the world. To make the scenario even more disturbing, the Diocese of Orange still employs the same attorneys and school administrators who also participated in failures to protect children from sex crimes and potential school zone violence, while retaliating againstWhistleblower employees who acted in accordance with the law, without accountability in a court of law.
Personally, no one can place thesole blame on Diocese of Orange Bishop Tod Brown, Pope Benedict and/orother religious leaders. However, based on the fact that it is business as usual in most religious institutions throughout the world, nochild, adult or employee is safe from the history of crimes that will continue to repeat, without IMMEDIATE federal government intervention.
On behalf of myself, my husband, our children, victims of sexcrimes, murder, their families, and the People of the United States of America, I am respectfully requesting that the U.S. Department of Justice thoroughly investigate the facts and issues state herein.I have used facts experienced in Orange County, California, based on my personal knowledge, belief and experience; and, could and would testify to the facts stated herein, under penalty of perjury, if given the opportunity.
Areasonable analysis, free of any and allpolitical, religious, financial, legal, government and/or judicial conflict ofinterest, will reveal that something is very wrong in our society. If corrective action is not taken, I have no doubt that civil rights of children, adults, families, employees and the faithful in the pews will be at serious risk.
As a potential SLAPP victim, please note that this is a public safety crisis that requires IMMEDIATE federal government intervention. Without justice, there will never be peace. Without peace, faith and our country's laws are empty.
Respectfully,
Debby Bodkin
