What Obama Needs to Do to Be a Star Again: A Modest Proposal
By John Blumenthal
With one outrageous act, President Obama can restore his presideency.
::::::::
I know it's illegal.
I know the Supreme Court would overturn it.
I know Liberals would condemn it.
I know a whole lot of people would be outraged.
I know Rachel Maddow and Keith Olberman would be... well, who knows how they would react?
I know Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck would have a cow.
I know newspapers would slam it.
I know Congress would condemn it.
I know there would be talk of impeachment.
I know that he will be called a dictator. (He's already being called that)
I'm not even sure how I would react.
But millions of ordinary Americans -- Democrats, Republicans and Independents, especially those who have suffered from foreclosures or unemployment or bankruptcy becauseof the shenanigans of Wall Street -- would be wildly enthusiastic by Obama's sudden and outrageous demonstration of backbone.
What's the precedent for such action?
Well, there really isn't one.
However...
Bush and Cheney started an illegal war in Iraq that has caused the deaths of thousands of American troops and Iraqis.
Bush/Cheney arrested innocent people -- Americans included -- and illegally sent them to Gitmo.
Bush/Cheney came close to bankrupting the nation.
So what does Obama need to do to restore his presidency?
Drum roll.............
He should choose one Wall St. CEO, perhaps one from AIG or Bank of America.
He should choose one who has deliberately acted against the welfare of the American people.
And then he should have this CEO arrested by federal marshals for putting the security of the country in peril.
For treason, in other words.
He would only have to send one of them to jail --as an example.
Congress would pass angry resolutions.
Impeachment would fail. The voice of the vast majority of voters would not allow it.
In spite of the outrage and the condemnation, Obama would beat Sarah Palin in 2012 by a landslide.
Just a modest proposal.
