I See Signs of Progressive Life in America

Sometimes of late, I’ve had to hide things from my wife. I’m not talking about a friendship with another woman, or a new Harley-Davidson I bought (I wish), or a card game with the boys. No it’s something else, it’s the news from Iraq and Washington. Every time my dear lady hears about something Bush or his knuckle-headed cohort Cheney says, she goes ballistic. The news out of Iraq, the dead on the streets of Baghdad or another IED, the report a few weeks ago by Lara Logan on the carnage on Haifa Street really got to her. These are the things that consume me, but I have to tone it down when I’m with my wife.

The “View” doesn’t help matters much. At one time, I couldn’t take Rosie O’Donnell. I didn’t hate her, I just didn’t like her all that much, I thought she was better when she was a video jock on VH1. I now have all the respect in the world for her. She has brought progressive views into the mainstream with a vengeance. That lady has the perfect platform to reach out to all the women in the United States that before her, would never even think about getting interested in politics, let alone progressive politics. She has brought up questions about 9/11 that would have never been brought up on the MSM. In my mind she deserves an Emmy for bringing political awareness to many women in this nation. I’m sure that there were women watching that had already had progressive views, but Rosie brought many more along to demand answers from this administration. Answers that still need to be addressed. The most important question being how long is Bush going to remain in his fantasy land?

As I said, the View doesn’t help around my house. My wife will bring up something she saw and naturally, being the kind of guy I am, before I think to shut my trap, I’ll expound on it and within minutes she’ll be cursing Bush, Cheney and Congress. Oh well, I’m really proud of her for speaking her views, I just wish she wouldn’t get so riled up. I don’t think it’s good for her. I’m the one that screams and shouts about politics in this house, I’m a little intimidated when she does it.

So all the Ho’s in Hawaii are upset. I don’t Mean the nappy headed ones that got Imus fired, I mean Don Ho’s family members. So all in all three names I grew up with: Imus, Don Ho and Kurt Vonnegut have all passed from the scene. Imus isn’t dead, and he’ll probably get picked up by satellite radio, but Kurt and Don are gone forever. I loved Kurt Vonnegut. When I was in High school I read Slaughterhouse Five. I never knew what happened in Dresden. I think that the world might have never found out what happened in Dresden if it wasn’t for Kurt Vonnegut. After I read that book I read every book he ever wrote. He had this way of pointing to the world and making it seem manageable. That all the powers that be were just a passing thing and I felt through reading his books that there were other people that saw the world somewhat as I did. I don’t know why I always think of this, but when I was being shipped out to Asia in 1968, I was in Ft. Lewis, Washington, and on a latrine wall for me to read while letting nature take it’s course was this: “There will never be peace until the power of love is greater than the love of power”. I always thought that the experience could have come out of a Vonnegut book.

So here we are, just about in the same place we were four years ago. We’ve lost many of our Constitutional Rights, we are still fighting a war in the Mid-East that we have no business fighting, we have no mainstream media that actually tries to be honest with the people, and worst of all we elected the Democrats to a majority in Congress and the first thing they do is take impeachment off the table. Global Warming is a reality, the government hasn’t learned a thing, and corporations still buy our politicians.

They say that Hillary Clinton is the lead fund-raiser. Is that because all the people dug unto their moth-eaten wallets and sent her $50.00 of their hard earned dollars? Come on folks, you don’t believe that, do you? Do you actually believe she is the #1 fund-raiser because everyone loves her? She’s the number #1 fund-raiser because she has the corporate backing from the network her husband developed while he was President. Jeez, this woman doesn’t even want to pull our troops from Iraq What would make her the “darling” of any niche except the corporate one. The corporations have already declared Hillary the winner. They don’t spend money on losers. You can listen all you want to about who said what, but unless this nation wakes up, and I see some signs of that, Hillary will be the next President. Money wins elections. It’s that simple Go to opersecrets.org and see who donated to Hillary.

I do see this nation waking up. I see Gonzales on the ropes. I see Gates not playing yes man to Bush. I see the country wanting answers to 9/11. I see a grassroots movement to impeach Bush and Cheney. I see some Constitutional rights being restored. All is not lost. If you believe it is, then it is, but I don’t believe we can’t throw off this 6 year nightmare that was the Bush Presidency. We are all in this together. In reality, most Americans should be more like my wife screaming bloody murder, and so it goes.
