I would love to sit at my computer and paint a picture of an exquisite day, where grass grows lush green as flowers bloom in glorious Technicolor splendor with a sweet fragrance of freshness under warm, azure skies.

Living is calm and secure; problems are minor, easily overcome or shrugged off.

Not a perfect World, of course, that would be ludicrous - or Pat Robertsonian.

Nor a perfect United States, which would be Herr Rovian (psst: The World is in his sights, the plan well in motion).

It's impossible for me to dismiss this feeling of dread I carry around within my gut, as though 100 pounds of dead weight has been heaped upon my spirit.

I began to sense it around early November, 2000. With the passage of weeks and months, the onus became increasingly more noticeable. After five-and-one-half years, the load is crushing in its weight.

(Well, the Cubs' recent eight-game losing streak didn't help.)

Throughout my youth and somewhat beyond, we "baby boomers" - more often than not dudes born after 1950 - were regaled with tales of phantasmagoric wonder and discovery that would be achieved resultant to human endeavor at the outset of the 21st Century.

So, with that in mind I, and it's a reasonable assumption many of my generation as well, anxiously awaited the coming New Millennium.

Many of us genuinely wanted to be part of the New World. I began grad school at 40, during the 1990s, just to prepare.

Unfortunately, about 20% of us saw the opportunities for amassing power and wealth in the coming 3rd Millennium. They only wanted to begin the New World Order.

Curious how much difference one word - five letters - can make.

We all know who the "Man Behind the Curtain" is, overseeing the takeover from a hideout of relative comfort. Yes, it is kindly, jovial, ever affable Herr Oberst Karl Rove.

And, why were we led to believe that beneficent King George XLIII insisted Herr Rove leave his position of Uber-importance in the West Wing? Because it is an election year, as if this wasn't in the Master Plot all along. Now unfettered by law, Karl has free rein to pull any kind of deviant tricks he can concoct on Democratic candidates.

Herr Oberst Rove has already begun the Summer Blitzkrieg, firing some early salvoes a month or so ago about how the Liberal Democrats would govern in a most un-Amerikan manner, not at all in keeping with and displeasing to Philosophie von Rove.

Republicans on the Hill have already had their tax cut votes, in which they kissed the asses of the excessively wealthy, ripped new ones for virtually all other citizens, and stuck it to the next president - no matter how honest and hard-working that person might be - if there even is another election.
