Bloomberg reports: “U.S. Imports, Exports Slide a Sixth Month, Raising Threat of Protectionism.” Recently a new argument has surfaced: Objecting to outsourcing amounts to protectionism. I argue that using protectionism as a retaliation measure is wrong. Protectionism as self-preservation measure practiced in advance, in the right dosage and with careful attention, is quite helpful on many fronts.
