HAITI SHAKEN
Tectonic plates slide on molten mantle,
collide, subduct, and rend
Haiti quakes with a mighty shake
Aftershocks follow as rocks settle into place
270 years since one this big
Above ground humans huddle in their concrete buildings
Their port city was built for hurricane shelter
without seismic codes
Concrete houses crack and crumble
Tens of thousands are crushed and die quickly
Many others agonize from broken bones and torn flesh
before their souls are released
Moaning millions crawl out and struggle to their feet
crying out from pain of injury and loved ones lost
The ground has shaken and so has their faith
Orphaned children, without family, homes, or bearings
wander dusty streets searching for food, water, shelter, love
suffering physical and mental trauma
Collectives are forming with hot meals and group therapy
They are glad to be with other children
Slowly, healing begins
