Office of the President
The White House
Dear President Obama,
We write this letter out of our respect for you as a person. We hope that you will treat it as if from two concerned old friends. We wish that we could write it out of respect for you as a president, but you, my friend, are on the road to failure, we fear. Yet, we know that you are bright and that you know how to think, so we retain our faith in your presidency.
We believed that you spoke from the heart to all of us, not as male vs female, not as theist vs atheist, not as rich vs poor, not as educated vs ignorant, not as moral vs immoral, but as a People.
We very much appreciated that approach because it is human and it says that we are not stupid, as conservatives believe the People to be. As you must know, human values are currently of little interest to the corporate U.S. under desperate right wing capitalism.
This utter failure of representative "democracy" is not a call to repair it, but a call to replace it - with a "direct" democracy. Representative governments are too easy to compromise and corrupt, as we have seen and experienced the past few decades.
You did provide your campaign discussions of a reborn American Democracy within a mildly religious context, but that is forgivable because you employed largely a New Testament context. There is some precious knowledge in the New Testament, not very much, but it is precious in contrast to the Old Testament. Indeed, the bulk of Thomas Jefferson's genius resided in his awareness of Jesus as the Father of Human Rights. He used that knowledge to become the Father of American Democracy.
Now, Barack, you are losing your liberal and progressive bases of support at an alarming rate (1). You are doing so to the point that many of us worry already about your chances for re-election in 2012. How will you overcome the abandonment of your campaign values during your presidency?
We already fear that you will fail as our first black president and do a disservice to the black community. We, as a People, feel abandoned, you must know.
We would like to explain to you why this is so, by explaining to you how you have erred in your stance as a "politically-correct" president.
Indeed, you were elected president because so many people had come to find the Bush-Cheney approaches to be repulsive and worthy of nothing but being abandoned. You essentially promised to lead America out of capitalism's inherently despotic, dung-filled ditch.
Instead, you adopted the Bush administration's far right approaches to dealing with every problem that it created and left behind for you to deal with (3), e.g., unwon immoral wars and a global fiscal meltdown - almost all due to conservative Republican policies justified with the values of Old Testament Roman religion.
