What's Really Stupid: America's Racist Justice System As the controversy over the arrest of Henry Louis Gates Jr. rages, a debate rages over President Obama's description of the police acting "stupidly." But as long as we're on the subject, it seems to me that we're ignoring a larger issue: the stupidity of America's racist justice system. For example, in drug cases, a black offender is 10 times more likely to be sentenced to prison than a white offender, for the same offense.

With Misleading Obama Photo, Drudge Again Shows He's A Lying Sack of Sh*t Thanks to the Drudge Report, the wingnuts are abuzz about a photo of President Obama that appears to show the president leering at the backside of a passing woman. But it turns out this "story" is complete bullsh*t. If you look at the video of the incident, it's clear that Obama wasn't leering at the woman at all. Instead, he was glancing down at the steps below, watching his footing, at he assisted another woman descending.

Iraqi Shoe-Throwing Journalist Speaks For A Lot Of Us I'm not sure what the specific grievance was that motivated an Iraqi journalist to throw two shoes at George W. Bush during a news conference in Baghdad. Throwing shoes at someone is a considered a supreme insult in the Middle East. But I do know this: if I could speak to that Iraqi journalist, I'd tell him that I share his contempt for Bush.

Despite GM's Staggering Losses, CEO Still Rakes In Millions It's hard to fathom a more poorly run corporation than GM, which reported a $2.5 billion third quarter loss. GM's share price is down 78 percent this year. A lot of people at GM are feeling a lot of pain these days. GM has been shedding jobs left and right and said it will lay off 3,600 workers beginning early next year. One person not feeling the pain is GM CEO Rick Wagoner, who will rake in a $2.2 million salary this year.

Rather than producing useful goods and services, our Carnival Freak Show Economy these days spends more and more time running scams and swindling people (think Wall Street). We've exported most of the good-paying jobs that sustained our once-mighty middle class. And the gulf between the haves and have-nots has grown to its widest since the Gilded Age.
